We received a recommendation from a contractor to visit UK&B. They have a large selection of granite in the showroom. We picked our color, got a good estimate from Claire (works in the showroom) and when we made the decision to go-ahead with the purchase on Sunday Claire came out Monday evening to measure. She revised the estimate after seeing the space and taking measurements. It came in $150 over what was originally quoted, but she knocked off $30 to bring it to $1950.00. She was able to schedule the installation for that Saturday morning. While she was hear measuring another client called and that day had the same color granite installed that we chose. We had asked for recommendations so she asked if the client would mind speaking to us. The client was very pleased with the work they had done that day and we were glad to speak with her. Two Installers arrived just before 8:30 Saturday as expected. Claire informed us that the main guy was Chinese and did not speak English, but that we could call for translation if the need arose. The other guy was Mexican and only spoke Spanish! Nevertheless they worked very well together as a team. They were clean workers, clearly knew the job well, and did a professional job. They brought a pop-tent for shade, and cut the plywood decking and pre-fab slabs to fit outside (lots of granite-dust). The only time I was nervous was when these two guys carried the large slab piece by themselves - they really should have probably been wearing belts, or had a third person because it was so heavy! After it was installed they cleaned it, filled the seams (that stuff is smelly - needed ventilation) and caulked. They even hosed the granite dust off of our driveway when they were done! Our cabinet installer did a very good job with the leveling, and this made the granite much easier to install for these guys. They really only did some hair-line shimming with some thin cardboard and that was it. We were first apprehensive, but would now highly recommend this company for countertops. We didn't price our cabinets there. We had already found a place we were happy with. (Republic Industries)
