When I arrived at Hartman's that Friday when they opened, I brought the paperwork and showed that it seemed to still be under warranty. Instantly any friendliness or interest in helping us disappeared. The man turned surly and short when I asked him to let me know if the mower was fixable or not. Monday, after not hearing from them in the timeframe they gave to me, I called and was told that "he might get to it that week". When I asked for an explanation, I was told that there was no way to tell when they would get to my mower because, "other important jobs might come in". Clearly our mower was a low priority. We called a few times to check on progress and never once received a call from them. I understand that there is a lot of mower tune-up and repair work done at this time of year, and that they may have been very busy. What I can't understand is being strung along and not getting basic answers. If I had been told how long it would take up front, or even after they figured out it was fixable, I would have understood been able to make other plans for my lawn. As it was, twelve days after dropping it off, I called yet again to check the status and I was told it was done. All they did was change out a switch and replace wire. The charring from the fire was still evident. While it appears to work, we'll see how long it lasts. I will never go back to these folks to purchase or repair anything. They have completely lost my business.
Description of Work: My Toro lawn mower burst info flames while I was mowing my lawn (!) After putting the fire out, I called Hartman's True Value, where I purchased the mower, to ask if a fire meant that the mower was totalled and to see what was available to replace it. This was Thursday. The fellow I talked to was happy to review the Toro mowers on the web site and said he'd have some in the following Tuesday. I said I'd bring it in to verify that it was truly totalled, he agreed and said he'd look at it Friday or Saturday. I had it in when they opened on Friday morning. The objective was to determine if the mower was fixable or not.
