Jewelry Sales/Design/Repair
A friend referred me to Seng over the summer when I was looking for a jeweler to add a spacer to my too-big estate engagement ring. (I didn't want it cut/sized, just needed a little temporary cushion.) Her parents had used Seng in the past -- so that's where I went.
Lovely store, lovely people, and the owners' grandchildren were visiting at the time, so it was nice seeing little people in the store interacting with their grandparents.
It was a fine experience and they gave me their tip for cleaning my ring: dish detergent and a soft toothbrush.
Fast forward to last week when I noticed that the teeny side diamond to my 1920s ring was missing. Luckily, I found it sitting in the sink and called Seng and asked if I could bring it in to have it repaired.
I stopped by the next day and they took a look and gave me a $250 estimate for the repair. In all honesty, I thought it might be $75 tops... but they said the prongs that held my loose diamond in place were actually sautered (not white gold). Therefore, they'd need to keep it for a few days to remove the sauter, replace with white gold, afix the diamond, then tighten up everything else.
A little in sticker shock - but not sure it would be worthwhile to start shopping around - I left my ring behind. (And missed it all week.)
Today, I returned to Seng to pick-up my ring and was delighted to see my ring in one-piece and super clean and shiny.
I felt good about leaving my ring with this family-owned company and will use them again. (Though, I hope I don't have to!)
