Description of Work: Radon mitigation. Protect Environmental seemed very professional, and worked with me to minimize the impact and visibility of the proposed solution. They completed the first phase and came back about three weeks later to test to assure they met the target levels. Test levels were greatly reduced, but still above recommended levels. They completed phase two a couple of weeks ago, but have not yet returned to test.

Response from Protect Environmental
After reviewing this issue with our project managers I have determined that this unfortunate situation is completely our fault. We have two project managers serving this particular market and unfortunately there was a lack of communication on our part that led to this situation. We are truly sorry and apologize for the poor customer service that [member name removed] experienced trying to obtain an estimate for work. I followed up with [member name removed] and explained how this issue occurred and apologized for the frustration they experienced. [member name removed] was very gracious and accepted our apology. We work hard to provide the best quality installations and customer service for our clients and when an issue like this occurs we take it very seriously and use it as an opportunity to improve our processes and procedures.

Once we fixed negative grade, we started mold remediation. We had to leave house after rooms were taped off with plastic that had zippers for access. The workers looked like something out of a scifi movie. White suits from head to toe and air masks. Once all removal and cleaning was done, we returned and was shown all the sealed bags of drywall, insulation etc that had been removed. All insulation was replaced. All looked great. Everything was so clean. They did everything they said and we have no more mold issues. Very professional. Even the musty smell in basement is gone.
Description of Work: We were charged a fee of around 200.00 to have them come out. We were told they would tell us how to rid the house ourselves of mold and give us an estimate for their removal price. He came in and searched the house and found places that we had not seen in other rooms. We had only noticed mold in the corner of basement. We have a basement under the main part of the home and a crawl space under our den. He showed us the crawl space was a mess. The den upstairs had mold behind old panelling and mold in garage next to den. He examined entire house. He explained that rooms would need to be taped off with plastic and vents sealed to prevent airborne spores from escaping when they started removal. He said that insulation in the crawl under den would need to be removed and replaced, this room measuered 12x17. He would clean mold off the wood floor joist and chemically treat. An 8x8 section of dry wall upstairs had to be removed along with the insulation and wood treated. The same in garage. The price quoted included all except drywall and paint. The basement had some mold on cinderblock walls and we cleaned ourselves as suggested to save some money. He told us to fix negative grade on house or mold would return. So he would not do mold remediation until we did that. We had to contract that out to someone else.

Mr. Sims came to the house and provided an in depth estimate and explanation of the work to be performed. Jeff described the different systems available, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The service included a week of radon testing after the system was installed. A written estimate was then e-mailed to me. Once the work was approved, Protect sent two technicians to the house for the installation. The technicians proceeded to perform the install, taking care to closed the utility door to reduce dust. I appreciated that they asked me how I wanted the pipe to flow outside the house prior to starting, as there was a window and they wanted to ensure the least impact to visibility while ensuring proper air flow. Once completed, the technicians ran me through what work was performed and showed me how to measure the fan and vacuum flow. They installed the radon tester, and showed me how to take manual readings if I desired, though the tester automatically took periodic readings. The installation was professional and is unobtrusive. The fan is quiet and has been running perfectly since installation. The radon readings in the house prior to the installation were over 5, and now run 0.6. We feel very secure knowing I have a well installed radon system in the area where my child plays daily. The staff was consistently polite, patient, and informative. They answered all my questions completely, and were open and honest. I would highly recommend them for your radon installation.

The mold being a result of poor workmanship of a homebuilder and under warranty, the homebuilder contracted for the remediation. It was agreed by Protect and I that the bill for the testing would be included in the remediation for the builder to pay, if he failed to pay it, I would cover it. Once complete, Protect had great difficulty obtaining payment for any services. I assisted them with additional contact information and they successfully received payment for the remediation only. I was noticed that I needed to pay for the testing. After about one week I was called and advised that my bill was "past due" and I needed to give them a credit card right now. I insisted that I was moving money to cover the check, but they insisted that my account was overdue and must make arrangements immediately. I then charged the test on a credit card. I had not planned to charge this expense. Overall, Protect did the work well and on time. Kyle has assisted in obtaining a clearance letter for the remediated mold at the house. I would recommend Protect for others to use.
Description of Work: Protect was contracted to investigate/sample areas of wetness suspected to contain mold. When mold was discovered, they took samples and had them tested. Protect also remediated the mold.

Very professional company, even when the services didn't go as smoothly as everyone might have hoped. After the unit was installed in a not-so-pleasing location in my house, the owner himself came out to re-evaluate and try to find another place to put it. He was able to find another suitable place, and they promptly came back to relocate the system. Overall, they were a pleasure to work with, and I would recommend them.

Overall, it couldn't have gone any better.
Description of Work: Protect Environmental installed a radon reduction system in my home. Jeff Sims came to my home to determine my needs and gave me a quote and answered every question I had. On the day they were scheduled to come to my home, they arrived right when they said they would. The customer service was "old fashioned'. Polite, professional and pleasant is how I would describe the installers. They were great. They were clean and worked quickly performing diagnostic tests to determine the most efficient way to remove the radon from my home. After the diagnostics were complete, they explained everything they had done and what the results meant. They then proceeded with the actual installation of the reduction system. Prior to the install, my radon readings were 18; 2 days after the install, they were 1.2. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Protect Environmental and in fact, I have already done so.

My appointment for Radon testing was for today, Monday, August 27th. I took off of work to wait for my appointment between 8:30 and 9:00. At 9:15, I called the company and was told my appointment was tomorrow. They got it totally wrong! She told me she could come later this afternoon. I work! I told her I would not reschedule and there were plenty of other Radon businesses. She was rude and said fine call someone else and have a good day! Thanks for the advise!!

Response from Protect Environmental
We sincerely regret when an issue with customer service occurs with our company. In this case, we were told by the member that we had scheduled the wrong day to provide the service. This is entirely possible, as we've all made mistakes. The understanding of the service date could have also been a mistake made by the member, as our scheduling software clearly indicated the confirmed service date was for the following day. In this case, we truly don’t know how the misunderstanding occurred. Regardless, when we were told that she was waiting for us to arrive, we offered to immediately send a technician to her home. She said that she had to work. We offered to send a technician to her home during her lunch break or after work hours. She said that she was leaving town the next day and would not reschedule with our company, adding that we were idiots and she would contact a ‘real radon company’ to provide the service. At this point, we apologized for the inconvenience we may have caused, suggested that we would prefer that she did contact another company, and wished her a pleasant day. When issues like this arise, our policy is to go out of our way to address the challenge at hand. In this case, nothing we could have done was going to satisfy the member. We would have happily provided the service at no charge as our way of apologizing for the confusion had the member been somewhat understanding and respectful in working with us to resolve the issue.

Upon initial appointment, the representative (Jeff) was on time, was thorough in explanation of the process and gave useful suggestions on how to better position the system for best benefit. He was able to answer any questions I had in great detail and was very knowledgeable on the subject. A couple days after the initial appointment I have received a written estimate for the work to be performed, outlining exactly what was needed and what will be installed. I have called to make an appointment, and due to the large volume of work, it had to be in about 1.5-2 weeks. On the agreed date, the installer came right on time and once again we confirmed where everything will be positioned and how long it will take. Several hours later I received a call the work has been completed, arrived to inspect it and found everything to be extremely clean and well done. The installer has left a radon test to ensure the system was working and gas level was reduced. Couple of days later the test showed 0.5 reading, which was a good drop from around 7.4 prior to the system. I am extremely satisfied with the overall experience with this company due to their knowledge, professionalism and courtesy. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs these services performed.

The entire process went very well as in my report above. They performed what was expected of them. Please read the report above.
Description of Work: The service was to inspect space to determine if we had mold and also test for it. Humidity levels on the walls, carpet, and room was measured. Air samples were taken in the middle of the room and also outside. The samples were sent to their lab in Indianapolis for analysis. I was impressed by the amount of material that was detected right down to 2 occurrences of insect body parts. The work was very professional that they were here at the time they specified. A followup report was emailed as to their findings. Great company to do business with.

Jeff was on time for our appointment, friendly, interested, and thorough. He took whatever time was needed to handle our concerns and carefully explained his responses. The office was excellent when initially contacted, when following up the appointment, submitting the estimate, completing the contract, scheduling the work, etc. A very reasonable annual service contract is available. For installation, the crew was on time, neatly attired, and professional - one of the best I have experienced. All work was neatly carried out and work areas left clean. Ample time was taken to explain what was done, and what to look for. It is unusual to find workers I would feel comfortable .leaving on the job if I had to go out. This is one of the rare ones - for sure !
Description of Work: Installed radon mitigation system on our approximately 4200 sq. ft ranch with completely finished walkout lower level. When the house was build, the builder caused several quality issues through improper technique. Some of these caused our concerns about the ultimate efficiency of any system. Jeff suggested over sized venting and fan to move additional CFM's as a solution. Some effort was required to both place the foundation penetration where we wanted, while limiting turns in its path. The entire system was placed in a perfect location from the pit, to the vent, to the fan and piping. There was another builder caused issue with the electric service. Jeff's electrical contractor understood and dealt with it efficiently.

Jeff arrived on time to provide the estimate. He answered our multitude of questions thoroughly and professionally. He enjoyed meeting our 4 dogs and 2 cats. He described in detail the work that would be done. We hired his company to do the work. We had recieved several estimates to install the radon reduction system but went with this company because they offer a $95 per year warranty where they come and inspect the sytem and do routine system maintenance. Also with the warranty they do an extended radon test every 2 years. On the day of installation they came when they said they would. My husband and I had sealed a large trough on the side of our basement ourselves, as we had discussed with Jeff to help lower our overall cost of the system installation. The workers left our house as clean as they found it--Jeff wore shoe protectors when he came to do the estimate. The system consists of a 6 gallon hole dug through a smaller hole they drilled in our basement slab. A white pipe goes from the floor to the ceiling and tunnels the radon gas from the hole under the basement slab to above the back of our house. The pipe has a pressure guage on it that we have been instructed to keep an eye on--if the levels are high or low the system is not working properly. After they finished, they left a large box behind which measured radon levels for 72 hours. The initial level--prior to the radon reduction system had been 10.7 and with the system the level is 0.7, which is way below 4.0 which is the level at which reduction needs to be done. Jeff told us that outside radon levels are between 0.2 and 0.5 so our level is now comparable to an outdoor level. We are very excited to have the radon problem in the basement corrected. We would definitely use this company again and plan to purchase the $95/year warranty.

While selling my home, a very inexperienced home inspector (whose father happened to be a local mold remediator) reported there was 80% mold in the attic! I was in shock. I called Protect on that Saturday and Kyle got in touch with me right away. He came out first thing Monday morning in a snow storm and spent ample time inspecting the entire attic. When he came out, he was confused because he couldn't find anything. The home inspector refused to take his word for it and Kyle agreed to meet with him for him to show him what he was talking about. The inspector showed up (with his dad who asked my realtor why I hadn't hired someone local). The father was trying to intimidate me and assure me that he was very experienced, implying that I should hire him. Kyle was extremely professional and well educated and he and the inspector's dad went into the attic. After spending a good amount of time up there and taking 2 samples that the dad suggested, the report came back negative as Kyle had reported. He provided both myself and the buyer with peace of mind during a very stressful situation. He had results and a report to me very quickly to ensure a smooth and speedy transaction. I would recommend Protect Environmental to anyone that may have any issues or worries about mold in their home or place of business.
Description of Work: Protect Environmental performed a very professional and thorough examination of my house, worked with the home inspector and his father, did another thorough examination, took samples and produced and very useful and professional report.

The cable guy told us our crawlspace had a bad mold problem. We contacted several companies to assess the situation and provide us with options. Of the four companies that provided a proposal, we felt most comfortable with Protect Environmental. They explained what was causing the problem, and what needed to be done in order to safely remove the mold and prevent the problem from returning in the future. The project took 2 days to complete and included removal of the mold, application of an anti-fungal on the wood, and installation of an encapsuline system (vapor barrier, de-humidifier, exterior wall insulation). The crew arrived on time, completed the work within the timeframe they promised, and cleaned up after themselves. When they left, I couldn't even tell major work had been done in my home. I am totally satisfied with the quality of the work and wouldn't hesitate to refer this company to anyone with a mold problem.

Great! Our radon level was reduced well below the level recommended by the EPA.
Description of Work: Our first radon test showed a high result, so we called Protect to test again, to confirm or refute the first reading. The result from Protect was also high, so they gave us an estimate to do the work. I got one other estimate, which was about $400 dollars cheaper, however, after going to Kentucky's website where they have a radon link and a "consumer beware" page, and looking at the criteria there, we chose Protect. They were very communicative, were very tidy, and punctual.
