The service call was scheduled promptly, they provided a reminder call the evening before. The service tech called the morning of the service call and indicated that he would be out in approx. 30 min. He showed up on time, was clean, polite, knowledgeable and friendly. I explained the problem that we were having with the Wirlpool front load washer. It was making a loud wiring noise when it went into the spin cycle. He then reached inside the front door of the washer, grabbed the drum and spun it. He indicated that it was a baring that was bad. He priced out the repair cost at $692.00. Outrageous based on the cost of a brand new washer! I declined the repair and was expecting to pay the $75 service call fee for them coming out and diagnosing the problem. Instead what I got was a bill for $137. The service that I was charged for was the fee for replacing the baring/drum and basket as if I had them do the repair. I complained and the service tech made 2 phone calls to try to reduce the cost of the service call. The effort was futile. He said normally service calls were $75 and he did not know why his computer was charging $129. I had no choice but to pay the bill. I will never use this company to service anything I own and I suggest that the Angieslist members do the same. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE PROVIDER! UPDATE: I called A&E about my bill. I told them what had happened (being billed for a service I did not receive). They told me that since I scheduled the service call through Whirlpool, the cost was $129 not the standard $75. They said there was nothing they could do, the problem was at Whirlpool. The customer service rep offered to get Whirlpool on the phone and I agreed. After discussing the case with the Whirlpool escalation department, they said that the service call was setup automatically and the fee was to be $75 (that was the order they submitted to A&E). After further discussion, they indicated that the $75 was a mistake and it should be $129. The A&E rep could tell that I was not happy. She put us on hold and went to talk to a supervisor. When she came back, she said that she received authorization to extend a discount to me for the service provided. Since I paid by check, she said it may take a week or so but I would receive a refund in the mail for $57. I am happy they are going to refund the difference however, I am not happy that I had to waste my Friday morning (on vacation) on the phone to get the refund. My advice, if you have to call A&E for service, make sure they quote you a price for the service and don't pay it if it differs from your quoted price. Also, never call Whirlpool directly for service, they will just pass it on to A&E and jack up the price.
Description of Work: No service was actually provided other than giving me a diagnosis after I told him I there was a loud wiring noise coming from the front load washer when it was spinning. He reached inside and spun the drum by hand and said yep, it's a baring. It took him all of about 30 seconds to give me the diagnosis.
