My interaction with the provider was amicable. They showed me around the facility, highlighting the available equipment and answering my questions. I have been satisfied with the availability, quality and variety of equipment in the multiple locations I have attended. It was well worth the price I paid to sign up, and even for my casual level of use it is still worth the investment. Their hours are decent, and I have had no new issues with them since they were acquired by LA Fitness. While there are other gyms to attend with better quality, hours or trainers, for the price it is a worthy option for someone who is just looking to join a gym and participate in self-guided fitness.
Description of Work: I wished to sign up for a gym membership to exercise more regularly, and they had a promotion for half-price monthly fee with a two year prepaid contract.

I am on my second 18 month agreement with the Urban Active fitness center on Taylorsville road here in Louisville. At first I was quite happy as it is a very large facility the first floor has the front desk where you check in, a health bar for drinks and even a tanning salon. The managers offices are right next to the check-in desk. Inside the first floor is a large open room with lots of weight machines, a trainers area, a basketball court, an indoor swimming pool and large locker rooms. Upstairs are more machines, ellipticals, treadmills and free weights along with a running track that runs all around the building. At first I loved this gym but right after I signed up for my second 18 month membership things started to slide. More and more machines were broken and when you reported it the staff didn't seem to care. After reporting the same machine being broken and even telling the manager they finally put a sign on it that it would be repaired soon. It took about six months to get it fixed and in that time many more machines started sprouting "out of order" signs. The pool I used to use and now it is unavailable for weeks at a time with never an explanation. When the pool is available you must have a card to use it and they only have about 6 cards. Other members use them and then continued to work out afterwards without returning their cards until they are ready to leave meaning that the pool is often empty but no one can use it, I mean, get some more cards! The same problems extends to the showers, I have reported a shower that cannot be turned for weeks finally confronting the manager saying what a waste of water it is and he said "we are trying to get it fixed." What kind of an excuse is that? Try calling a plumber! The bathroom areas were nice with flat screen TVs above the urinals but then they got smashed and were left broken for a year but now have been replaced by advertising posters. It seems like the staff doesn't care as the facilities continue to break down. Many of the machines which were in new condition are now showing major signs of wear such as worn out and broken straps, missing pedals, broken seats etc. And they have the nerve to charge an extra $15 dollar fee twice a year to maintain equipment - but I have never seen any equipment being maintained. This could be a beautiful gym but they just are content to let it fall apart. I am surprised that the company has not done any inspections, when I called the corporate offices to complain they said to speak with the local manager, which I explained is impossible because they never do anything or recently a different person is "manager" every week or two. One of my biggest laughs is the health rating on the "health" drink bar which is often a "B" grade. I mean you are just making health drinks! When my term ends later this year I will be looking for a new gym.
Description of Work: I joined this gym about four years ago because it was close to my home and at first look it was large (two floors), had lots of equipment and even a swimming pool. I soon found out that they give a great tour and if you discover something is broken they assure you it is going to be fixed "tomorrow" but "tomorrow never comes." I have seen things remain broken for YEARS!

This used to me a Gold's Gym. Urban Active took over the gym. I liked my original trainer for my shoulder and hip problems. He was fantastic. I went there twice a week. When I went in one day for my appointment and he was not there. They stuck my with a guy that would rather look at the other girls instead of help me. He made me run and do sit ups which hurts and I can not get up because of my hips because I have injuries. He did care or do any research on exercises that I could do. I talked to the head guy and they made me feel like crap and it was my fault. They perceived it like I was being a big baby. I stopped going and lost 20 private lessons. They would not give me back my money. I contacted corporate and they said that I did not finish my lessons.
Description of Work: I go to Urban Active to work out.

It is close to my home. I find a lot of their equipment is out of repair lately. They have about 30 elliptical trainers and half of them don't work. They don't have any security. I have had to quit going at night because there are a group of men that hang out and try to harness me and talk to me. These men hang out in the parking lot for hours. I've complained to management and nothing has been done about it. The last time there was a group of men in the lobby. If it keeps happening I'm going to quit the gym. I would not recommend them to anybody until they get that problem taken care of. If they were not 5 minutes from my home, I would not use them.
Description of Work: I use Urban Active Fitness to work out on the cardio equipment.

The initial trainer that recruited me was great. He painted a picture of a new style of health/ athletic club that was going to be different from Louisville Athletic Club and other local facilities. He told me that the owners wanted to invest money into the relatively new facility and keep it clean. The facility seemed to be clean and I enjoyed my early visits to the club. However, I agreed to pay an additional surcharge in addition to my membership fee and this money was supposed to be invested into new equipment, upkeep, etc. I soon found that the lap pool was dirty and seldom cleaned or drained. Many of the exercise machines were not leveled and wobbled when used. Weight lifters used the indoor walking and running track to drag weight bags which tore up the surface. Overall, there was no supervision in the club to keep members from using cell phones while exercising on treadmills, cross trainers and other equipment.
Description of Work: I signed up for a promotional membership with Urban Active. It ended up costing me over $60 per month, but I wanted access to a swimming pool so I bit the bullet. I was a member in good standing and asked to get out of my membership contract early (by four months) due to a move to another part of the country NOT served by an Urban Active or affiliate.
