Drywall Masters, owned by DeWayne Spiess, runs a crew to install drywall and also represents himself as a contractor for remodeling jobs. He was recommended by his drywall supplier and another contractor to do the drywall and ceiling resurfacing. Drywall Masters was hired December of 2012 to do a job based on his assertion that his crew would perform a quality job to resurface a large kitchen ceiling that needed repair due to moving can lights over a new center island in a remodeled kitchen. He stated that patching was impossible and the entire ceiling needed to be redone if I wanted it to look like new. In addition, the master bathroom also underwent a remodel and durarock needed to be installed in the shower, existing walls skimmed, as well as the ceiling skimmed and resurfaced. The bathroom walls were skimmed unsatisfactorily the first time. A guy had to come back a second time to address the problem. However, to date the angled walls on both sides of the bathroom have gaps where mud should have been matched up and sanded smooth for the painters. The kitchen ceiling, which originally had a soft knockdown and perfectly level appearance like the rest of the house, now has a heavy knockdown texture combined with spots that look like a popcorn ceiling. Most significant, the poor workmanship is evident with noticeable grove marks, pitted areas, and uneven mud build-up across a couple of areas of the room. The ceiling has been painted, but the shoddy mud work is evident. In the evening when lights are low the ceiling unevenness and botched areas are even more predominant than during the day.... it's awful! DeWayne Spiess is aware of the problems, having seen the unsatisfactory work performed on the kitchen ceiling when he picked up the check for the job. Trusting that he still would address the problem after receiving payment, I have called several times to have him come back to find a solution, e.g. re-sand parts of the ceiling to smooth out the imperfections. TWICE he scheduled a date and time to come back out to look at it again, and both times he did not show up or have the courtesy to call.
