Carstar repaired minor damage to bumper in 2012. In less than a year, a section of the paint started to peel off. Took it in, and the manager (Reese) said it was not their fault, as there were scratches on the bumper nearby. While there were some scratches, they didn't line up exactly with the peeling sections, and the paint appeared to be peeling, not scratched. He insisted the scratches were the cause of the paint peeling. I finally agreed to pay half of a repaint. I got a 2nd opinion from another body shop before the repaint was done, they said the scratches were not related. In all fairness, perhaps body shop #2 just wanted the business, but in my experience, the paint job was not prepped correctly the first time. Receptionist is great, but many layers of administration (estimators, etc).

It was on time and as estimated. The car looks great now.

We thought that it was high and so, we took it to another place. The weird thing about them was that we had our vehicle towed there and they asked us if we wanted them to pay the towing company or if we wanted to pay them. It didn’t matter to me, but they said that if I had them pay it, then it would be part of our deductible. It sounded good to me and that was kind of nice. Then when I took the car to take it somewhere else, I had to pay them back. When I did that, they charged 30% premium above the towing fee just to do the paperwork. If you are billed $200, then they charge you $260. If I would have paid it, then it would have been $200. That wasn’t fair because they didn’t really have to do that. I would tell you to pay it yourself if you have your car towed anywhere and if you are not absolutely positive that you are going to have the work done there. You can then see if the insurance company would reimburse you. They told me that it was customary. Their sales people were super nice. They have a little place where you can get coffee from and they have chocolates in their waiting lounge. I might go back to them in the future, but I am not going to let them pay the bill for towing.
