Asphalt Driveway Service
The brother of the Owner showed up at my driveway, stated that they were just finishing up a job and they were going to have enough left over from that job that they could do my driveway since they had seen my driveway was just stone, would I be interested. I informed the brother that I could only afford $400-$500 anything over that, then I would have to wait until tax time next year which is what I had been planning. The brother told me that he could work with that, and that he would measure it and make sure that they didn't go over that amount. I stated that was fine, but to make sure they didn't go over it because that was all I could afford. He said they normally charge $13 Sq. Ft but would drop it to $11 Sq. Ft for me to help out.
They then left and came back approx. 1 hour later with all there equipment and started working on the driveway. They got to a certain point and the son of the owner came up to me and ask me if I wanted them to go ahead and finish the driveway, and then seal coat it. I informed him the same that I had the brother, and at that point he looked at me funny. He asked me about the $400-$500 price and who had agreed upon that amount. I told him it was the brother of the owner of the company. He then measured what had been done and said I owed them $5200.00. I told him that I wasn't paying that, that it was not the price agreed upon. The son called the brother up, and we discussed it, with the brother denying the conversation. I son stated that without sealing it, it would be $4200.00. I again explained I didn't have that kind of money, that I am a disabled Vet, and have a limited income and would never have authorized that kind of work or that amount. This went back and forth and also with the Owner Harry Harrison who kept dropping the price, and got it down to a $1000.00 and said that would pay it in full. I finally gave them a check for $860 and cash of $140 for a total of $1000. They left without sealing the asphalt, it being very soft, plus the driveway was only half way done. I believe this was a scam from the beginning and they used old asphalt chipped up from another job. It is going to cost me after tax season over $5000-$6000 to correct and do the job properly. I was duped and hopefully this report will keep other people from being scammed by this company. They are very slick and work as a team. Any questions please feel free to contact me.
