We are very pleased with the instruments we have rented from Knapp Music. Both the French horn and violin are good quality instruments. The rental price is fair and reasonable. We feel like we are not being taken advantage of (as we were with some of the larger instrument rental stores in Indianapolis). Well worth the drive to Pittsboro (and they ship too).

As stated, the violin was in pieces, but all necessary parts were there. However, the and quot;buttonand quot; was broken, and that is a crucial part of the violin structurally. Mr. Knapp took the violin to an acquaintance who is experienced in that type of repair, and had it done right. He then proceeded with the rest of the restoration. He procured parts (new tailpiece, and bridge) cleaned the body and assembled the entire violin. He asked me if I would like to hear the final product, before requesting payment for the restoration. He summoned his daughter to come to the shop, and play the violin so I could hear it. It sounded amazing. He then requested payment for the repair and only charged me $140--very reasonable. After this, I asked if he would be willing to take the violin into his shop on consignment. He agreed to do so. He had sold a prior violin for me and charged me 20% consignment fee--which was cheaper than some of his competitors. Within 3 months, he sold the violin to a customer, and provided the funds to me immediately. His commission, again, was quite reasonable.
In a day when people would sometimes discard old instruments because of the cost to repair, I am fortunate to know this business who values an individual's business enough to make it affordable to repair a violin, while doing top quality work.
