The technician came first to see if he could repair my old softener. It was very old and he shared that to troubleshoot it would be approximately $250, and then if it could be repaired, parts would need to ordered given the age of the unit. I agreed not worth the investment...he rescheduled a time the next day to install a new system. I am very pleased with the system, the installation, and the performance.

I had to turn on the outside spigots at my house. To do this I had to reach behind the water softener (that is where the facucets are for the entire house). I moved the softener a hair and heard a CRACK...and water started spurting EVERYWHERE! I was screaming, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and trying to turn the water off but I couldn't do it. I finally turned it off but by then I had a laundry room full of water. I couldn't turn on the water in my house without the water spurting again. I was mopping for 2 hours then I went to Angie's List to find a plumber. I found Plumbing Heating Paramedics and they had 24-hour service so I called. The gentleman at the answering service was calm and soothing and explained the charges upfront. The plumber called a few minutes later and tried to talk me through some simple fixes but in the end he had to come out himself. It turned out that what he was trying to talk me through doing would not have worked anyway. He ended up placing a small pipe between the intake and outflow valves to make it so the softener would not leak. Then we turned back on the water in the house and all was well for the night.
Description of Work: Cobbled together a pipe between the intake and outflow valves of my water softener to stop the leaking so I could turn the water back on in my house.

The plumber was great, they were on time and professional. It took them about 30 minutes to clear the clog. The reason for the poor price score and average overall score is the price. They charged $217 to unclog a toilet during normal business hours. This price seems outrageous to me. The trouble is that no one will quote you a fixed fee over the phone and you will be out a $70 service call if you do not do the work for the unfairly high price. It would be great if a plumbing company would offer fixed pricing up front before they come out for a service call. We've used many plumbers and have yet to find one that will. PHP did a great job, but I'm not likely to use them again due to the price.

One of the best service experiences I have had. The engineer showed exactly on the scheduled time. He first checked the AC coils in our basement and they had a little bit of frost build up on them. Other than that he did not find anything else wrong with the coils. He then went outside and checked the condenser unit. Sure enough, he found that Freon was low and quoted $160 for 2.5 lb of Freon which seemed fairly reasonable to me. I asked him whether he will do a leak test to check on the system since Freon was low. In response, he asked me how old was the system and when was the last time it was refilled with Freon. I told him that it was 9+ years old and has never been refilled. He suggested that he did not think I needed a leak test (which was about $275) because over 9 years Freon was bound to get low specially since it has never been refilled. He recommended that I get Freon refilled and watch it for some time. If it gets low again this season or next then get a leak test done. I went ahead and had him refill the Freon. This was about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have not seen an frost build up on the condenser unit at all. The house is also nice and cool. I called Plumbing Heating Paramedics because about a week earlier, the fan on our AC's condenser unit has stopped working and obviously that caused the AC to stop working. I called Airton (since they installed the original system). BAD MISTAKE. The fan had stopped because the start capacitor was bad. They charged me $305 for replacing the capacitor ($27 online). Their "engineer" also wanted to replace the condenser unit fan for $900 (about $250 online) and since "he thought I had a leak in the system", he also wanted to replace the coils for $1700. Another choice I had was to just get a new AC for $3600. I am so glad I called Paramedics. Based on my experience, I will definitely recommend them to anyone.

We are selling our home and had to address several issues on an inspection report. We initially had scheduled them to replace a piece of pipe on our kitchen sink and seal our shower. However, upon inspecting the shower, he determined it was something that should be handled by someone who does tile work. He did fix the pipe and was very quick and courteous. We have used them in the past and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

After my husband put in the hose the leak that occurred before continued. When I called them back they told me it was a dishwasher problem. I had an appliance person out before I called them and they told me it was a plumbing issue. Plumbing Paramedics then tried to charge me for the same service call again. even when they didn't do anything about the leak.

I called originally about a Big Deal for a water softener. The model was an introductory one, and was convinced by the technician Randy to go with a more sophisticated model, and purchase it through them, rather than Angie's List. We also decided to get a reverse osmosis water filter installed at that time. The price ended up being considerably higher than the Big Deal price, partly due to the fact that we were upgrading the softener model, and partly due to the fact that our home had not been plumbed for a softener before. The softener and filter were installed without issue. Fast forward a few months, and we purchased a new home and decided to rent out the previous home. We wanted to bring the softener and filter with us. We contacted Plumbing Heating Paramedics to do the work. Randy and I talked on the phone and he told me he would do it for $500. On the day of service, I was at work, and my wife met him at the house. He told her it was going to be about $600. Of course, my wife called me to tell me that he was quoting her higher than he originally did. I called him and asked him why he was charging us more than he originally quoted us, and he said that he did not recall quoting us that price, but he would try to get it done for as close to that as he could. I was frustrated, but let it go. In the end, he ended up charging us around $550. Upon inspecting the work, at the rental home, there was a big mess left. There was salt on the basement floor from the softener, and a big pile of salt on the grass near the side door of our house, which had killed the grass under/surrounding it. At the new house, he also left a large pile of salt on the floor of the basement. We found it frustrating, but chose to let it go. Probably due to the fact that we had just moved and were trying to get our lives back in order. A couple of months later, our tenants had moved in and let me know that the ice machine wasn't working in the fridge. They said there was ice at first, but then it ran out, and did not replenish. Upon inspection, I could see that the water line was not hooked up to the fridge. I called Plumbing Heating Paramedics, spoke with the scheduler and let her know that when Randy had uninstalled our softener and water filter, he had forgotten to reconnect the water line to the refrigerator. She put us on the schedule. Randy called when he was on his way, and told my wife that he was going to charge us for coming out to our house and reconnecting the water line to the fridge. Yet again, calling us the day of to tell us it was going to be more money than we expected (which in this case would be $0). My wife called to let me know that he was going to charge us to finish the job that he had left undone prior. I called Randy who told me, "I don't remember you telling me that you wanted me to reconnect the water line to the fridge." I then said, "Forgive my incredulity, but why would anybody NOT want you to reconnect their appliances when you're done? Did you think that I suddenly DIDN'T want my ice-maker to work?" He then said that he didn't really remember the whole situation and needed to look at it to see what happened and that he'd let me know if he was going to charge me. I did not hear from Randy after that. I assume the work was done, and since I did not hear from him, I assume he decided not to charge me for work he forgot to do on the prior visit. I will update the review if this is not the case. We will not be working with Plumbing Heating Paramedics in the future. To end on a positive note, we are happy with the softener and the reverse osmosis water filter they provided us.

Bryce (the tech) called 15 min before arrival, arrived on time, was polite and knowledgeable. Found the problem , tried a work around and then told us we needed to replace the water heater. He looked up the warranty on the heater (which was installed by another contractor) and found that we still had 2 months left on the warranty (surprise!). He offered us 2 prices: one for replacing the heater under the warranty (which meant that the new heater would only have a 2 month warranty); and another for replacing the heater with a heater with a new 6 year warranty (cost of new warranty - $600). We went with the 2 month warranty. We were offered a service agreement ($149) which lowered the cost of the heater by $60 and included 21 point furnace tune up, 21 point A/C tune up, no overtime charges, $69.95 service call rate 24/7, 10% off all plumbing and HVAC services, and plumbing inspection with water heater flush. The owner of the company stopped by to help bring in and take out the water heaters from the basement (nice to see the owner working). They also accepted an Angie's List coupon for a $100 off the total bill. Offered a 0% financing option for 12 months. We were very happy with the service and to have hot water again.

I guess it was a good thing to find that out, definitely getting the water heater had to be done. We didn't have time to check our prices but I don't think it was bad.
Description of Work: We knew the water heater was leaking, that's not what we had him for but he found, can't remember, ended up at the water heater, he put the water heater on emergency basis like maybe have the next day to replaced that because that thing came up and I would rather the furnace which we were getting a new one.
