When Marty arrived, he was apologetic because he was 4 minutes late, which of course, was no big deal to me! As a woman meeting an unknown man at our property, I can say he did a great job of setting me at ease. (Knowing he represented an Angie's List Super Service Award winning company that also had an A+ Better Business Bureau rating helped, too! Marty listened intently, asked intelligent questions, treated me very respectfully and professionally, and answered my concerns with obvious top-notch knowledge of his subject. He requested to see the inspection report prior to going down into the crawl space, and explained some terms, (only when I asked), that were unfamiliar to me. He also masterfully did a "non-salesmany" job of explaining the strengths of ARW for just this kind of job. After this quite educational discussion, he put on his special crawl space gear, (so as not to leave dirt all over our house when he came back up, like the buyer's inspector had done), and descended into our wet crawl. I heard him down there navigating the entire crawl space perimeter, banging on boards and taking pictures etc.. He was down there inspecting and analyzing for close to an hour! (The other two companies, when they came were down here for no more than half an hour each!). I could tell he was doing a really thorough job. Based on his and my previous discussion, I could tell he was a man of integrity representing a company that strives to deliver excellence and value to its customers. I could tell I could trust his judgement as to what we would need to do to fix the problems. When he came back up, he had digital pictures and educated opinions regarding what needed to happen and why ARW's particular way of waterproofing would be the best. Turns out, they also had an unbeatable warranty on not only the work and equipment, but they also subcontract the mold remediation to a company that offers an incredible renewable (free) warranty. I shared with Marty that, since we were selling, we wanted the work done well, but we didn't want to lose all our profits either. He expressed that they understood and would do all they could to earn our business. I was sold....except we didn't know the price yet! When we got all three estimates in front of us, ARW was not the cheapest. However, it was in the ballpark of the others, yet offered WAY more value in terms of the technology used, the transferrable warranties offered, and the warrantied bonafide mold remediation (instead of just some bleach treatment). After we reviewed everything, we had some more questions. Mike, the owner, unbelievably called us back on his personal cell phone that evening and patiently and cheerfully discussed all of our questions. He thought through some ways they could pare the price down a little to get it closer to our desired budget. We found him very educated regarding his field of work, and thoroughly enjoyed talking with him, just as we had Marty. Our realtor brought the numbers and estimates back to the buyers and let them know our strong opinion that ARW would be the best company to hire. We said we believed in ARW so much, we would even be willing to pay more than our previously agreed upon portion, if the buyers were to decide to hire them. Our buyers decided they wanted the peace of mind that true mold remediation would bring, and they wanted all the other benefits too. So, we all agreed on our terms and last Friday, the sale went through! Hurray! Thank you to Angie's List for offering trustworthy companies for members to choose from when hiring various jobs. Thank you for having your Super Service Awards so we know who are the best of the best! Thank you for advertising to consumers in such a way as to let us know other good things about your endorsed companies (like BBB ratings etc). Thank you for your commitment to excellence so that we can trust the companies in your membership. Thank you to ARW's Mike and Marty for being great examples of how to do business and how to truly serve your clientele. Your communication skills, knowledge of your subject matter, ongoing educational commitment to growing in that know-how, and your willingness to work with your customer's various time lines and financial limits, are all reasons you deserve success. I understand the work at our former property starts next week, and I have no doubt our buyers are in great hands. I am sure they too will be jumping at the chance to write one of these positive reviews!

Crew of one person, Corey, arrived on time and worked very hard all day to complete the job. We reviewed the work to be done and it compared very favorably to the work order that Corey had, which is nice. He got right to work. It was a cold, windy and at times rainy day. He was very professional and thorough at all times, when I spoke with him. I was very surprised he was by himself, but he explained his coworker called in sick and he wanted to get the job done and felt he could do it. He was correct even though it might have been a little easier with another set of hands. He did an excellent job and I would highly recommend ARW.

I own a house built in 1870. I had foundation problems concerning water channeling in from outside. Over the years it had become a chronic situation. I found ARW on Angie’s List. The company had very good reviews.I want to add this review for the excellent job they did for me. ARW fixed my basement within the time schedule they gave me. The cost was extremely reasonable. The work ethic was fantastic. In the time between the completion of the project and this review we have had two heavy storms come through and the basement remained completely dry.I highly recommend this company and will gladly use them in the future if the need arises.

I arranged an inspection. Martin Mainzer met me at the house at the time I arranged. After inspecting the situation with me, he took measurements and photos and sent them to the owner, Mike Bird. Mike insisted on arranging a time the next day to come and see the basement himself. He felt my situation was not the norm. We discussed the options.Regular pier support would not work well because the foundation is made of limestone boulders and rocks. The upward pressure of the piers could cause problems with the limestone. Traditional underpinning was called for. Mike explained the process and I found out not many companies do not like to or won’t take on this kind of job. Mike gave me an estimate and a time schedule.

The crew that came out to do the job was run by Jay Sawers. Mike came by with Jay on the first day and introduced the crew. We all went over the project and what to expect. Jay and Brandon began the task. I was impressed with several things about the crew. They kept me notified of ant change or delay in the process. An attribute that is hard to find with contractors these days.

The project:

The foundation would be supported using traditional pier support. That consisted of regularly spaced holes dug down without machinery at a 45 degree angle. Rebar was inserted into the concrete that filled the holes and then a retaining wall was built with the rods embedded in the walls. One continuous wall went down the front west side and the front wall in the trouble corner. In addition they dug down outside the wall and put in a French drain. A French drain was also put down the opposite side of the house were running water was starting to cause similar problems. The downspouts on both sides of the house were run under ground past the foundation and into drain boxes set on the edge of the lawn about 20ft from the house.

The amount of concrete needed for the project exceeded the original estimate but I was not charged extra. The original plan called for the dirt being excavated from the basement to be used to grade the flower beds on the side of the house. My wife asked them not to because the lack of soil nutrients would damage her gardens. The put the dirt in an area my wife wanted it and agreed to use topsoil in the gardens. This is an item not covered in the original estimate and I was fine with paying the extra cost. I was not charged.

They used a small cement mixer outside the basement and used buckets to bring down the concrete. Consequently, there was cement on the ground around that area. They cleared all of the concrete and put top soil down there as well.

Thanks to everybody at ARW Martin, Mike, and Jay. and Brandon.

I signed up through Angie's List for a 10-point inspection of my home's foundation because I was concerned about water standing around my house after heavy rain.  I was also concerned about possible water collecting in my crawl space.  The response from this company was very quick, and the inspection was scheduled at my convenience.  The gentleman who came to complete the inspection was courteous and personable.  He walked around the house with me, then went into the crawl space,  and completed the inspection.   He then sat down with me and went through each point of the inspection, explaining in detail what problems might arise from each of the areas inspected.  There was no hard sell for any of the services which his company offered to remediate any of the potential problems.  In fact, he stood up to leave when he was finished explaining the inspection, and I then inquired about the service which I was most interested in having his company perform, which was burying my downspouts.  He sent me a detailed email proposal the next day, and I signed and returned it within 24 hours.  Within two days the underground utility service had been contacted, my utilities had been marked, and my job put on their work schedule.  The whole process has been handled very professionally, and I look forward to writing an additional review once the job has been completed.

ARW managed to get to us sooner than we thought, thank goodness. Because there is a lot of rain in the forecast. They explained everything and did a great job so far. They are finishing up tomorrow. The trenches they dug for the runoff pipes were done neatly. They dug up the grass and put it back so you can barely tell anything was dug up. It is raining now. Fingers are crossed that this will take caremof the problem. If not, ARW will come back and do more for us. We appreciate them going with the less expensive solution.

I knew of a problem I had and decided to contract them to work on the problem.  I have two downspouts that go underground and connect to storm drains that do not work well.  Part of the underground drain has broken and another part has come to the surface.  Mr. Mainzer  did a very detailed examination of the issues and wrote a detailed work order to address the problems.  I signed a contract to have them do the work and am waiting to get it scheduled.  Today is 3/25/16 and they haven't called yet to schedule the work, so I sent them a message through Angies List asking them to contact me next week after Easter to schedule.

It was great. So far they've been very supportive and taken care of everything. There is just one other thing we need to wait on but other than that, they did well. The work is not totally complete yet. They were supposed to restore my yard and I got a hunch they don't want to do it. I had to call them out because they had covered the water meter. It took a couple of calls but they came out on time and got it taken care of. I didn't pay $49, I paid for the full amount that they charged to do the work. What stood out about the experience was that the owner took extra interest. He was involved in the negotiation and he came out before and after the work was done. Any time you get the owner involved in something, that's great as far as I'm concerned. They did everything they specified on the contract except the little bit where they had to come back and straighten the yard out. The owner was there to make sure that all the questions I had were answered.

This is a top notch company, and the decision to use a different company was not easy and one I hope to not regret. Mike and Marty both were very respectful and knowledgeable. I would recommend speaking with them if you have a need for this type service.

Provided a review of the drainage issues at our home. Provided an estimate to resolve the issues. They were attentive but quite focused on "closing the deal". Their plan was well-presented and comprehensive, but we ultimately went with another person to place the drain tiles and provide the excavation services due to a lower quote.

Marty came and gave us an estimate on a house we were looking to buy that we thought may have some foundation problems. We didn't have a purchase agreement, and he still came to take a look for ABSOLUTELY FREE! He was very thorough, and checked the outside for water to make sure none was coming into the house. He then gave us a very reasonable estimate to fix the damage to the foundation he had found. Would definitely recommend ARW!

My fiance and I are in the process of buying our first home.  We had our home inspection done and were a little worried about a bowing wall in the basement, as the home was built in the 1950's.  We wanted to be sure this would not cause any problems in the future.  We called our realtor to get her thoughts and she highly recommended to have ARW and specifically, Marty Mainzer, come take a look at it.  I called Marty and he was able to move his schedule around a little and come out within 1 day!  I met Marty at the house with our realtor and showed him what we were looking at.  Marty not only took a look at the basement but also walked around the outside of the house to get the whole picture.  He gave us his professional opinion of the situation and recommendations.  My fiance and I discussed the options and also looked information up in regards to ARW.  Not surprisingly, we found that ARW has won numerous awards for their work, including 11 super service awards in 2015.  I have talked to Marty a couple of times since the originally meeting and he has been very helpful and honest in regards to his opinion.  Being new to Indianapolis and finding a local company that I can trust for the most important purchase of our lives to this point really gives us peace of mind moving forward.  We will be moving forward with ARW after our closing and I would highly recommend calling ARW if you have any questions or concerns about waterproofing your basement or drainage needs.

I highly recommend Advanced Restoration & Waterproofing
(ARW).   Ten out of 10 on everything.  I am more than completely satisfied, my life
is much improved for having chosen ARW.  I
had suffered from a periodically flooding basement for years and now I wonder
why I put up with it for so long.   I had
always assumed that waterproofing a finished basement would be ridiculously
expensive and too drastic to consider.   Boy
was I wrong.    My installation was in
spring 2015, so I have been living the dry life for a while now, including 3
days of power outage during heavy rains.
I met ARW at a home show in Indianapolis.  There were other similar exhibitors but I
liked the design of the ARW system and the pricing was competitive.  They also spent a lot of time answering my
questions about the system and process.   When the estimator visited, I was very
impressed by his level of detail and honesty and shocked by how little time the
entire project should take as it seemed like so very much work.  I knew that my old house presented some unique
challenges but he assured me that I really had to do very little, just give
them space to work along the walls, they would move the washer and dryer and
would be able to burrow behind water heater.
I was honestly relieved to not have to do much.   I received a very thorough estimate for
waterproofing the entire perimeter of my semi-finished basement with multiple
rooms, dual sump pump with or without backup battery.  I chose With and am so glad I did.
Their price was already incredible based on the extras, like
2 buried downspouts included, but I was offered an additional discount to move
up by several weeks when there was a cancellation idling a work team.  They also made it very convenient for me,
coming to my workplace so I could sign the contract.   Work
began and I couldn?t believe how so few people did so much in so little time
and left the place so clean.  I?m still
blown away by how great my basement looked!
Be prepared for dust and noise,
but the mess is short-lived and the work is top notch.   There
have been no problems, everything works perfectly, no leaks, no overflows, and
I no longer have to mop or wet vac my basement or keep everything on tables.
Just last week I needed someone to look at my backup battery
because it was beeping and still under warranty.   While they were here, they replace a buried
downspout that another contractor damaged by ripping through it with a backhoe
and didn?t charge me!   Note that it was cold and snowing that day,
and they not only fixed it but improved it!
Just one more way that ARW is committed to its customers.
I can?t say enough about the people, the workmanship and
service.  Every single individual I have
met has been friendly and honest, and unbelievably hardworking.   All work has been exactly as they said it would
be.  When I asked about other projects I
need to do here, for work they don?t do, they referred me to other vendors
instead of just saying they don?t do those projects.
They have more than met their obligations of the original
work, they have far exceeded my expectations.
Go with ARW, you won?t be sorry.
In fact, you will sleep well even when it rains heavily for days and you?ve
lost power.    I don?t dread heavy rains like I used to and
can put my basement to full use.  If you?re
not sure you want the battery backup, I think you do:  if I?m at work and my house loses power, the
sump pump texts me to let me know!  And
then texts me again when power is restored.
If that second text doesn?t come,
I know to arrive home with batteries for the flashlight and maybe some candles
and take-out dinner.  My life is
drastically improved with peace of mind and full use of my basement again.  Thanks, ARW!!!

The guys were all very friendly and hardworking.  They showed up in snow, ice, rain, on New Years Eve... and did an incredible amount of work in a couple weeks of brutal winter weather.
I'm very happy with the retaining wall they rebuilt.  It looks great, and they did a great job patching the crack in my foundation.  All in all, excellent service.

"Our records show that we actually did called back and did leave messages with no return call back. Emails as well. If the member would have reached out to us we would have been more than happy to have provided the inspection or refund the money ourselves although ARW doesn't receive any of the inspection fee but rather Angie's List keeps the fee to provide the opportunity for our company and the member to make contact."

Response from Advanced Restoration & Waterproofing
"One of the questions always asked at every inspection is; what is your goal? The reason we ask this is because every problem, every house, and everyone has different results in mind. For example if we are looking at a 100 year old home that has water coming in but it's just a small amount many things could be done. 1. Maybe the home owner wants to finish the basement and wants it to be completely dry. That will most certainly take more than downspout extensions. It will also take either an exterior or interior waterproofing system. 2. Maybe there goal is to preserve the foundation since the house is old but are not putting as much emphasis on waterproofing. This may require downspout extensions, grading and French drain installations. I believe this is what happened here. The member just wanted a very basic installation and successfully communicated that to the engineer that we recommended. We appreciate the opportunity to have provided the customer with an estimate of what our perception was at the time of what there goal was. I would add that sometimes we run up against foundation issues that have been neglected for years and that the only solution available would be to make a complete repair with no interim measures.
