About a month a go I had the oil changed and the brakes inspected. After the brake inspection, they told me I had about 20% left on my pads and gave me an estimate to replace pads and rotors. I though their estament was high and asked why if the pads still had life on them, the rotors had to be changed. Their explanation didn't make sense to me and I still had life on the brakes so I did not have the brakes put on.
After the oil change, I noticed an occational miss at stop lights. After several weeks it seemed to me getting worse, so I took it back to them. I told them it may not be connected with the oil change, but I wanted it checked out. They called and said it needed a tune up and it would be over $200. I though that was pretty high and at first declined. After I thought about it, I decided to have it done while it was there. When I picked it up, I told them I hope it resolved the problem. The assured me that test drove the car and the problem was resolved. I went out and started the car, and it immediately revved up to a high RPM. Had to leave the car with them for evaluation. They called the next day and told me the throttle body needed to be replaced $500 - $600. At this point I lost all confidence in their diagnosis and told them I would be in to pick up my car. I went in to pick it up and talked to the manager. To there credit, he asked if I would leave it, for further diagnosis. They said after the tune up, it needed to be reprogrammed. They completed that and they say the car is fixed. Time will tell. I wonder how many people would have had the throttle body put on and if that would have even fixed my original problem. After all of this, I don't feel confident they fixed my problem.
This shop has done some seriously shoddy work. While I was away on a trip my grandpa took my car to them because my car's AC compressor went out. Now, I didn't want him to take it to this shop in the first place. I have a mechanic I trust, and I don't like having work done on my car by someone I don't already have a relationship of trust built up with. Still, I wasn't there at the time so I couldn't protest.
The car is a 1994 Oldsmobile and (as I was informed) it had to be converted from R12 refrigerant to R134. No big deal there. However, I got the car back, the AC seemed to work great, and no issues cropped up for quite some time. Fast forward to a few months ago, I?ve moved to the North-side of Indy, and in the middle of the July-August heat, my car's AC goes out again. I looked in my car-repair logbook and found the exact repair form form this place for the AC fix, it was out of warranty (as I suspected). So I took the car to a mechanic I trusted. With my upcoming marriage I wanted my car in tip-top shape for our honeymoon.
Our mechanic, Bob, took a look at it and called me sounding very frustrated and startled. He informed me that the O-rings on the AC system were the factory original and because of the swap by the other garage from R12 to R134 they were in absolute tatters and torn apart, thus, all of my AC refrigerant (that I paid a mint for) had leaked out of my engine. As Bob outlined to us, this is not just pure negligence this is willful and intentionally bad workmanship. My guess is that it was done to make me need to come back and get the AC fixed more often. Such an issue like this is outright awful.
Now, to fix the issue that already cost me $800, I have to throw down another $300 (not including labor) to get it fixed(from the shop I trust). This should have been taken care of from the get-go when the new AC compressor was put on. Now thanks to slipshod workmanship I?m out an even bigger chunk of money that was supposed to go toward my honeymoon. Now I?m pretty much broke and my honeymoon fund is all but gone. Having talked to my grandparents, who have taken a few of their cars to this shop, they?re now reporting to me that they?ve experienced poor quality workmanship on their vehicles too.
At this point, I?m glad that I no longer go to this place for auto repair and I will never go again. In addition I?m making sure all my friends, family, and other relatives in that area to avoid this place at all costs.
Don?t make the mistake of going to this place. Find an auto garage with a head-mechanic that you can trust.
I've learned that I am a picky person with fairly high expectations. Tom charges very reasonable prices, has specials advertised regularly, doesn't tell you services are needed that aren't, gets your vehicle in and out, and gives out his contact information in the event of an after-hours emergency. If only all businesses could be as service and community driven.
I was pleased with these services.
