Our experience was excellent. We were surprised to see only two guys show up, and they told us they would be done the same day, so we were also a little skeptical. When they came, it was below freezing outside, so we figured our house would be freezing by the time they finished. Then they got started... my wife and I were both really impressed with how they worked; very professional, and completely thorough. They did all of the outside work first, then just popped the old windows out, and put the new ones right in - it stayed warm in the house, because they did it so fast. The area around each window was cleaned up as they went, so there was virtually no mess. I let the head carpenter, Chuck, know how much we appreciated the way they worked, and he told us that White Oak is really a good company; "they are good to their employees and good to their customers." He also said that if we liked their work, we would really appreciate their customer service. We haven't had to use the customer service for anything, but judging by what we saw, and the quality of the window, we're taking his word for it. I was a carpenter for 12 years, and have never been on this side of a job. Needless to say, I was nervous about having somebody else work on my house; it is a big, old house, with all original woodwork, inside and out. After this experience, I am sure that we will use them again. We're having 4 more windows put in after tax-time, and might have them do some roof / awning work in the spring. If you are as nervous as I was about having somebody rip a hole in your wall in the middle of winter, all I can say is that these guys are the ones to call for the job. The windows look fantastic, inside and out, and we can tell a HUGE difference in the temperature inside.

A representative came out to give us an estimate. He was plain-spoken, professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and personable. He explained the windows thoroughly and was genuinely concerned that we understood what he was telling us about the windows and how they would be installed. I didn't particularly care for how the estimate was presented to us: we had to commit to the deal that day. The price was reasonable, so we went ahead with it, but I would have felt quite a bit more comfortable about the decision had he given us a day or two to verify some things before signing. White Oak is a reputable company, and I really don't believe they should feel the need to require a commitment on the spot like that. The windows were ready right around when I expected them to be. We got a phone call to arrange a time for the work to be done. Two men arrived at the house on time, ready and equipped to get the job done. They were very efficient with their time and mine. They patiently answered all my questions (I had many) about the work. They were skillful and clean, and very conscientiously cleaned up after themselves. I did not have to do any cleanup after they left. They removed and hauled away the old windows. Insulation and caulking was expertly done; the finishing and trim looks much nicer than the old windows. They checked the operation of the windows, and went over the operation with me so that I was aware of all the features. They left information behind for my reference. The windows came with a (non-transferrable) lifetime warranty; I am comfortable knowing that I can call White Oak with problems and they'll address them promptly and professionally. Before, during, and after the sale, White Oak demonstrated in word and deed that we are a valued customer. That's important to me, as it shows that they know how to treat customers well.

The installers were quick and professional. It took two guys about 3 hours to tear out the old windows and build in the new ones. The installation looks perfect, I don't think they could have done a better job.

The project went very smoothly with no surprises. Communication with the project leader was easy and timely. The design process went smoothly as well. The remodel took about a week and a half total, from tear-out of the old material to finished room. This project covered the entire range of activities from framing a wall and door, to cabinetry, plumbing, tile flooring, staining trim and painting ceiling/walls, etc. There were a few things that we wanted done differently as the project progressed and White Oak accommodated our requests; when we pointed out minor problems they were quick to remedy them. The project leader checked in every day on the progress and was on site most of the time. We felt confident that our expectations would be met, even when we were not available to answer questions.

I was happy with the price. I was first approached by someone going door to door in the neighborhood making people aware about their products. I gave them my name and phone number, and was contacted to set up an appointment for a sales person to come out to my home. They came out and explained their product, and showed us what they looked like. They arrived very promptly. We liked what they had to offer, so we went ahead and had the windows replaced. I would recommend them to other people. I liked the quality of their product. I wasn't here when they installed them, but according to my husband, it was a very easy installation. They got the job done in less than a day. The price is comparable to anyone who is dealing in quality windows. They were very responsive.

This team did a great job from start to finish. They were no "slap it together" group of guys working on our house. Every little piece was detailed out to the tee. My dad was at the house as an "adviser" if they needed it and he even stated that these guys took their time to get it done with extreme care. Even with them taking their time, it was done in the allotted time that the sales guy said it would be. They even found ants in our front porch and stopped that section to call us, let us treat the house and then gave us another quote to fix that portion which we had them do. These guys were a class act on our house and I cannot wait to get the money together to have them come back and do windows for us. That's next on the list.

UPDATEe: Mr. Lupino, VP of White Oak, and I struck a deal where they build a new window in beige and installed it for $1200.00. Mr. Lupino was extremely professional, and I felt like his deal, while not addressing the root morality of the issue, was "fair enough" to be done with the whole fiasco. The installers were very professional, and did an excellent job. I have changed my overall experience from an "F" to a "C." My grandmother was alone in her front yard when a salesman approached her and asked if she would be interested in buying vinyl windows. She told him "No," but the salesman pressured her into giving him her name and number. Later, another salesman called her an convinced her to set a sales appointment. On June 24th, TWO salesmen came to her house, and tried to convince her that she needed replacement windows. After repeatedly telling them that she wasn't interested and couldn't afford it, the salesmen changed tactics and started asking her "if you could replace only one window, which would it be?" With some prompting from the salesmen about how bad the picture window on the front of the house looked (also the largest and therefore most expensive window in the house) she stated that it would be the one she replaced. Once they got her to "pick" a window, they upped their sales pressure to convince her that she could afford it. Eventually, after hours alone with these two salesmen ganging up on her, they convinced her that she could have the window for "only 40 dollars a month." They quickly wrote up her contracts, and after shoving a flurry of paperwork in front of her, were gone. My grandmother, shaken and embarrassed that she was coerced into buying, didn't tell anyone about the purchase, and I found out about it only after visiting her house and seeing a sign in the front yard. After investigating the issue, I have found out that the salesmen sold her a WHITE window (when all of her home and trim is in chocolate brown) with ALL of the additional "energy saving" features they offer (when it will be the only new window in the house) on a CREDIT CARD that they opened in her name (at 13% interest, that she had NO IDEA she had signed up for- she thought it was a payment plan) . To put this into perspective My grandmother is a woman who has not opened her windows in the last 10 years. She is also the thriftiest woman alive- still wearing clothes she bought in the 1970's. Finally, the only thing she has EVER purchased on credit was her home. These predatory salesmen sold her a window that doesn't even match her home, for $1800 (Lowe's carries a similar window for LESS than $500 INSTALLED), on a credit card she didn't even know she was applying for. The three-day cancellation passed before we even knew about the window. Once I saw her contracts, I asked her why she signed up for the credit card instead of paying by check, and she didn't even know she had- she thought they were offering a simple payment plan. At the 13% interest rate they got her at, it will be nearly 5 YEARS before this window will be paid off. I spoke with Sam Lunipo, Vice-President of White Oak, and while he has been responsive as far as speaking with me (hence the "A" rating in that category) he has so far refused to cancel the contract. He did offer to remake and install the window in Beige, or install the White window for $1,200 instead of $1,800- but both of these solutions miss the point entirely- my grandmother was pressured into buying an EXTREMELY high-priced window that she doesn't need and can't afford. If you have older parents or grandparents WARN THEM about speaking with salesmen from WHITE OAK- these salesmen are predators who are looking for vulnerable seniors to gang-up on.

I did not get as much light as the older windows. They also did not size the windows properly and they do not open all the way. The windows don't open wide enough and is dangerous if there is ever a fire. I would be stuck in the room since I could not fit through the window. I tried calling the company back more than once and they said they couldn't do anything for me. You would think they would be able to compensate. They said they would come out and they didn't show up most recently. One person came out about two months ago, but nothing was accomplished. I can't just throw the windows away.
Response from White Oak Construction
"On December 8,2009 White Oak Construction Installed Windows in the member’s home. Prior to the purchase of the windows the member was shown an actual sample of the window that she was purchasing to have installed in her home. A copy of the contract is enclosed and the member initialed that she had seen a brochure (in this case she received a brochure and saw an actual sample of the window). After installation, the member called our office and said that she "loved the quality of the installation and the windows" however, she did not like the fact the she lost some glass space. It was explained to the member that our window had a thicker stronger frame and that it's typical with all replacement window installations to lose some glass space. At this time the member stated that she would just have to get used to it. The member called back several weeks later and stated that was still not happy with the windows because they did not let in as much light as her old windows did. She swore that we made a mistake and "mis-measured" her windows. At this point I sent out our assistant manager, Quinten Sweet to inspect the installation. Quinten, reported to me that the windows were measured correctly and that they were installed properly. I explained this to the member. Again she said that "she would just have to learn to live with it." The member has since called back repeatedly complaining that we did not correctly measure her windows. I have sent three separate people to her home. The first visit from Quinten Sweet (mentioned above) another visit from a service Technician, who verified Quinten Sweet's evaluation. After the member continued to call, Paul Wilson went to her home. He also verified that the windows were measured and installed correctly. I have explained to the member several times that we did everything correctly. We even met with her daughter at her home, who also verified that the window installation looked correct. I have explained to the member that I am sorry the she doesn’t like the loss of glass space, due the nature of a thicker window frame, however, we can't refund her money or take the windows back, as they are custom made for her window openings. She continues to call and I have told her several times that I am sorry but we did everything by "the book" and I can't do anything about the product we sell. That is why we show a sample prior to purchase. I have included pictures of the old windows and the new windows. You can see that about 1 Yz" of glassspace was lost with the replacement window system. This is typical. I do not feel this complaint is warranted. White Oak Construction fulfilled the contract with the product purchased and with quality installation. We have responded in a timely manner to the member’s complaint three times. I am sorry that she is not happy with the loss of glass space but we can't refund her money or continue to send representatives to her home to verify what three employees have established as proper measurements and a proper professional installation. Sam Luppino, Vice President/Owner"

We were very pleased with the sales staff and installation staff. We had a large number of windows that required custom fitting around field-stone and wood siding. They also replaced or repaired some wood framing around the windows that had water damage and wood rot. The crew that did the replacements completed the job in 2 days and cleaned up afterwards leaving nothing behind for us to do.

I cannot say enough good things about this company. Their installers are employees of the company and not sub-contractors (having worked in the contracting industry, this is rare), which I found refreshing and boosted my confidence in White Oak. The project manager showed up and explained to my wife everything that was going to take place and gave her a timetable (which they adhered to). I met the crew when I got home from work. They were presentable, friendly yet professional, and answered all of our questions. They cleaned up the jobsite at the end of each day and did a top-notch installation job. I would hire this company again in a second! In fact, we're thinking about a room addition and White Oak is at the top of the list!

Someone came to my door to inquire if I was in the market for new windows. I really wasn't going to have the windows done until fall of 2010. A salesman called and made an appointment. He showed me the product and explained what they could do as well as a price estimate. I decided that I would get the windows done. They gave me an estimated date of the end of January/beginning of February for the windows to arrive but they came in much earlier so I was able to have the installation completed much sooner (it would have been even sooner if I hadn't been out of town) than I expected. They were very professional and very quick. The installers showed me how to work the tilt-out as well as how to get the sliders out for cleaning.

The salesman came to the house, told us about the windows the company sold, helped us select the window styles and gave us a price. The windows are top quality with a high R value. Some of the windows are a different style, some had to be a different frame color on the inside. The tilt in for easy cleaning. He gave us a price which was too high so he helped us with a different style for our 4 large windows. We then got a lower price for allowing them to feature our home in a promotional flyer because we were the first customers in our neighborhood. After the order was placed, one size window wasn't available so he helped with another style.
