 + -1 moreIt went very well. Rick Horton, the service manager, was very professional during his estimate of the several items that needed work, and he explained everything to me in great detail. Two days later he and an apprentice arrived on time and fixed everything they said they would fix while I was in another room doing other work. The actual cost was $40 under the estimate. The work looks great and is working fine. They fixed another leaky sink for no additional charge, since he was already there and it was a simple fix. Rick educated me on certain things to watch for with the aging pipes in our house. Sure enough, the next day a DIFFERENT sink broke, and this was no surprise based on Rick's diagnosis about our plumbing. I've already called them again to do the work. They wanted to establish a working relationship as "our plumber", and I imagine I'll call on them from here on.
Description of Work: I called this company to do work on a house I had purchased with aging plumbing. I needed the work to be done well and quickly before I moved into the place. There were several points on the inspection report that needed attention: Two leaky sinks, a malfunctioning outdoor faucet, the hot water heater needed servicing, and the garbage disposer and kitchen sink plumbing needed to be replaced.

Description of Work: Came out very promptly to fix an outside hose connection that had begun to leak. Charged me for coming out - $160 to put in an insert I had bought myself for $9. I mentioned their Angie's List Discount, however they charged full price.

 + -1 moreThey arrived ahead of time. Called before they came. Assessed the situation and made a recommendation. I asked about a modification to allow the faucet to connect higher off the ground. They recommended a different type of faucet, slightly more expensive. They explained the differences and I chose to go with the more expensive faucet. They did a complete job. They identified another problem and left an estimate to repair it. They were very polite and thorough. The faucet has been in place for about 3 weeks and works well.
Description of Work: Outside faucet was leaking into basement and had to be replaced.

 + 1 moreThey had to replace about 20 to 30 feet of new sewer line that they had to put in under the floor. This work was very well coordinated with other work that I needed to have done at the same time. They brought plywood to put down in the driveway because they had to bring a dumpster, they did this so they didn't damage anything. They also brought plywood to put gravel on which they needed to put on top of the sewer line once it was installed. They did a very professional job of saw-cutting the concrete to expose the broken sewer line. They did an excellent job of fixing the broken line.
Description of Work: They repaired my sewer line. They had to break into the concrete floor, find the sewer line break, fix it, and then put in the concrete back in to place. They also installed a new water heater and sump line.

Description of Work: They had to do some repair work on a master shower. The technician was afraid he might break something so he did not perform the job that needed to be done. He said that he did not have the supplies necessary for doing the job and that they would have to order them in. That was about 5 weeks ago. Periodically we would contact them to see what was going on. Last night we made a decision to get a new plumber.

 + -1 moreI live on an acreage that features a well that services the residence, a barn and a couple of stand alone hydrants strategically placed to provide water for the animals. One hydrant head leaked. The hydrant is not an off-the-shelf item at most places so I ordered a replacement on line. I needed a plumber to replace the head. It is a little more complex than a faucet in or on a house. I found Hallam plumbing on the list with a good rating and the firm is close to my residence. I called to inquire about their services and explained what I needed. They accepted the job, very courteous scheduler, with the provision that they would quote me a price when they saw what needed to be done. They appeared as scheduled and quoted me a price. I accepted and he began the work. It turned out to be a little more complex than the plumber or I anticipated. He did a very professional job at the quoted price.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreI have already submitted a positive report on Hallem, but now have an addendum. A few days after the water heater was installed, I had a furnace thermostat problem that I couldn't correct, ultimate resulting in my calling a heating contractor. Somehow, Hallem's guys had turned off a switch on the furnace, which resulted in the thermostat problem. They also had not re-lit the furnace's pilot light, which the heating contractor did. After a time, I called Hallam to complain (and to constructively criticize). I thought that was it. But today Hallem called to tell me that they were sending me a check to reimburse me for the heating contractor's service call ($72). It doesn't get any better! I may have hoped for reimbursement but I didn't request it. I have to say, they went above and beyond. Needless to say, they are now my plumbers of choice.
Description of Work: Removed old gas water heater, installed new gas water heater.
