 + -1 moreWe've hired these people before, and they're always prompt, friendly, polite, and concerned. They listen carefully, inspect for themselves, give a quote before they start working, and then clean up very well when they're done. We'll definitely hire them again. We can rely on them.
Description of Work: We had a serious leak/flood problem. The Metzler guys came quickly (as usual) after I called, listened carefully, found the problem, and fixed it. But, they also found the source of the problem and we made a plan for them to come back and replace pipe to fix it completely. Two days later they were back, and 4 hours later the work was done, everything cleaned up, and they were on their way.

 + 0 moreOverall the experience was fine. It is just very hard dealing with the pricing schemes of plumbers and electricians. They will I call a couple of companies and they will not give you even a rough estimate of hourly cost or parts. So it is very hard to say did I get a good price for the service. I had a wet basement, and someone there to do the job... I'm going to say "NO" when I get my estimate???
Description of Work: I had a sump pump failure early AM. Was able to call an get a regular appointment that morning (so did not have to pay urgent visit fee). I had a new sump pump on hand. The tech did give me an estimate for one of their products, but put in the sump pump that I had. Showed me how to trouble shoot in case the pump isn't working.

 + -1 moreThe old faucet was difficult to remove. I called Hallam who said they would send a repair person the following day and gave a 2 hour window for appear. Hallam called the following morning and said they could do the service earlier if convenient. Rick was the service person and had installed a new water heater for us two years earlier. I was impressed with the work done previously and that was the reason I called Hallam for this project. Rick was courteous, efficient and helpful in explaining the installation. He also told me what the installation on the new faucets would be before starting the work. I am very pleased with the work performed.
Description of Work: Installed a new kitchen faucet and hot and cold inlet faucets for the sink. The old faucets would not shut completely off.

 + -1 moreNot well, but not because of Metzler. The sewer had an area that as impassable. Metzler tried most of Christmas Eve to clear, but then passed my info onto an excavating company. I do feel I was over charge a bit because they charged me extra for time, which was partly their fault. The machine was faulty and they had to leave to get a part. They also did not have a camera with them to see what was happening to the sewer. But they were very nice and tried very hard to clear the area. They also looked a leak in the shower and will be back to fix it.
Description of Work: The sewer was backing up into the basement.

 + -1 moreI knew to specifically ask for this plumber since he has fixed leaking faucets in the past that other plumbers swore needed expensive and lengthy repairs. Once again, my faucets are working well and the work was done quickly. Each faucet's problem was explained in a direct, understandable way. The second day of work, the plumber even arrived BEFORE the scheduled time.
Description of Work: We had two leaking faucets. One was fixed immediately; the other broke off in the plumbers hand and he returned two days later, as scheduled, with the necessary replacement part.

 + -1 moreI had my house broken into over the Christmas holiday and all the Copper Pipe and A/C line sets were stolen. My insurance company asked for three estimates. When I called Metzler and explained the issue and identified myself as an Angie's list customer, they wanted to send a plumber over and bill me for the trip charge for an estimate. Due to the size and scope of this job, I feel the trip charge for the estimate is unwarranted. None of the other three required this charge and the estimates for repair have been in the THOUSANDS of dollars to replace this mess!
Description of Work: Asked for an estimate for an insurance claim.

During installation of the garage hydrant, there was water infiltration of the control box of alarm system requiring the system to be shut down & a service call by the alarm company. The new hydrant continued to slowly leak after installation requiring a return trip for repair. The timer for the sand separator was on order for several months before it could be installed. During that time, we had to manually flush the separator on a daily basis. We have used Metzler Plumbing for several years for all of our plumbing needs and have a customer service agreement with them. They had always been excellent until this year. It is very unlikely that we will renew our CSA for 2008 or use them again.
Description of Work: Installation of a frost free hot & cold hydrant in garage, replacement of a malfunctioning timer for a sand separator.

 + -1 moreI had already bought a replacement faucet from Menards and all that was needed was for the plumber to replace the existing faucet. He was curteous and professional and did the job well. The bill included an additonal charge of $117 for a "tight access fee" and $30 for something called a "dispatch fee" which, oddly enough, negated the $30 coupon from Angie's List.

Description of Work: I had water from the sink and dishwater draining under the house in the crawl space. The plumber went under and repaired/replaced the damaged pipe and at my request put down some material to soak up some of the water next to the basement wall.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreI noticed the water heater was leaking late on Saturday afternoon. I called Metzler's just before 6 PM. Larry Metzler answered the call. After describing the problem, he suggested that I shut off the water to the heater, then turn it on the next morning so that we could have hot showers. He said that would prevent the overtime charges for doing it on Saturday evening. He asked for the make and model number of the old unit and said that it would run about $1900. I agreed to the work. He called back a few minutes later and said that he had underestimated the work, that it would be $1952. He said his men would be here on Monday, early. His man came at 8 AM. He performed the work with great care - protected our carpeting, cleaned up when he was finished and explained what he was doing in each step of the job. He was very courteous and helpful.
