I was in a rush to get to work on a Tuesday morning and was disappointed when the gentleman was about 7 minutes late for the 8am appointment. When he arrived I quickly pointed out what I wanted done and he was fine with that. My wife had set the appointment by phone and I asked the gentleman if she had pre-paid. When he said he didn't think so, I explained to him that I didn't have enough cash on me to pay but offered to call in a credit card to his office. He said it was not a problem, that he would simply leave a bill and we could mail payment (This has been my experience with all other contractors to include yard work, cable, handyman etc). I was very disappointed later in the evening to learn that this company had called my wife's cell phone at work to request immediate payment approximately 6 times. The calls began at about 9:30am, as soon as the work was done. She works in an office and is in and out of meetings all day and cannot answer her cell phone for personal business. When she finally had a chance to call this company back they offered to come get the payment the same day, from her place of work? I mailed payment within a couple days as I always do for contractors. Coming home the day I mailed out the payments I found a note on the door to call them ASAP to make payment for the work that they did. Obviously, they have received payment as the calls and visits have stopped. I feel ok about the work that was done. They didn't get up any stains off the floor but for general shampoo cleaning it wasn't bad. I could have done the same work with a rug doctor rental from Home Depot but for the price I paid to Holliday's it was worth it. However, I will not use this company in the future and cannot recommend them do to the borderline harassment over payment that began the same day I received a bill? My guess is that they have been stiffed for payment recently and are being very diligent to be sure it doesn't happen again. Unfortunately, the trade off is crummy customer service.
Response from HOLLIDAY'S CARPET CARE
"The member has really misrepresented the facts about what happened that day. The technician was supposed to meet him there to be let in to do the work and he would go on to work. When talk of payment had been made the member asked if we accepted credit cards the tech advised him that we did not. The member said he had no other means of payment with him and he had to leave for work. Our technician should have either called our office to get OK to bill the customer or to choose not to do the work without payment being made. I have been in this business for over 25 years and have never had a customer expect to receive services without making payment or payment arrangements. The member also states that calls were made to his wifes office 6 times beginning at 9:30 am as soon as the work was done. It was not even brought to my attention that we had not received payment until the tech ended his day late in the afternoon. One call was made that day to make payment arrangements. The member did not even answer the phone. A message was left for her to return our call. She did not do it. Nor did she do it for 2 days after that. When I finally reached her she said she was too busy to return my call. She said she would mail the check that day. I said she could do that or we could pick it up since our office is less than 2 miles away. She said she would mail it and I said fine. A week later we received the check. The member insists this is the way he does business with contractors. I have been the owner of my own company for over 20 years and have not had 1 customer just expect to be billed for payment without making previous arrangements to do so. I am 60 years old and have never expected someone to come to my house for a service or repair and leave without payment. Our technician made a mistake by not checking with management to get the ok to do what he did. As far as the quality of the work, we have been in business over 20 years without a negative complaint to the bbb or angies list. If a customer is not satisfied with our work we will make it right. We received no complaint from the member's about the quality of work performed. We would have answered our phone and promply responded. I feel the member was just upset for us attempting to collect for services rendered so the technician could be paid for his work. It was not at all that we did not wish to bill them it was the fact that we did not receive any response at all for 3 days and had no phone calls returned. Thank You! Steve Holliday (owner)"
