The two man crew arrived on time, were neat, clean, and efficient. The upper bath had mold on the floor, so the crew called to let me know rather than tiling over it. This required them to return next day, which they did. The entire job was done very well. All cuts to the tile and quarter round were very well executed.

Rather surly installers, did a horrible job on the two steps (you can clearly see the plethora of staples they put in), didn't want to move furniture even though the sales person said that wouldn't be a problem (we had to put it back), broke the glass off a clock without telling us - one of us stepped on a piece and cut her foot, and we then had to clean blood off the brand new carpet.

The company representative, Jack Hogan, was very polite and professional. He was very knowledgeable about his inventory. Ultimately, I was surprised that Empire didn't have better prices since they advertise themselves as a "wholesale" carpet company. I thought that $2400 was too much money for a partial basement. We are going to go through a home improvement store for our carpet. I did like the fact that carpeting could be installed the very next day!

Between the first and second contract, a policy changed in which they would not put back the toilet in the bathroom that was getting carpeted. They tried to cancel the contract midjob, but eventually told me I would be charged an additional charge to remove the linoleum. In the end, they did not charge it because the installer was a nice guy, and he put the toilet back anyway. The Sales Manager was completely unprofessional. He did not call to see what the problem was, but instead resorted to the sales person at the store to cancel the contract.

It was a very bad experience. They missed the installation date and I had cleared my schedule for that day, so I called and cancelled the order because i was upset. Then, they called a week later with my carpet on the truck and asked if I wanted them to come and install it, I let them come do the installation anyway. They were short 4 feet of carpet and tried to make it work, but it looked unprofessional. The guys were really young and didn't work well together, they were rude and did not respect my home. I spoke with a manager about the problems with installation and he was rude and unwilling to work with me. There were also problems with their accounting and payment processing. I would never use them again and it was a horrible experience.

I had worked with Empire in the past and recommended them to family friends and clients. However, this time, the workers were very ROUGH with everything. They sawed off trim around doors to install laminate then left gaps between floor and trim, also they did not install the laminate flooring behind an appliance as agreed. Empire did a terrible job installing carpeting and at 2 months old it looks like it needs to be replaced. I have asked the division president to have the work corrected 4 times but he doesn't respond to any of my communications.

The rep was 2 and half hours late. Did not measure the rooms to be carpeted correctly saying that he was going to "round the number up because it was easier." The number was 11 yards more than I even needed. The rep spoke about how busy the company is and how over worked they are. Not professional. I was far from impressed. Their prices are so much higher than everyone else and the quality is not as good.

THIS COMPANY'S WEB SITE TAKES DOWN INFORMATION, AND THEN ALLOWS YOU TO SPECIFY A TIME AND DATE FOR A WINDOW REPLACEMENT ESTIMATE. SEVERAL DAYS AFTER SUBMITTING MY PREFERRED DATE AND TIME FOR THE ESTIMATE, I RECEIVED AN EMAIL STATING THAT THEY HAD BEEN TRYING TO CALL BUT COULD NOT REACH ME AND REQUESTED I CALL THEM. I RESPONDED TO THE EMAIL THAT I HAD BEEN HOME, AND NO ONE HAD TRIED TO CALL. THEY PHONED WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF MY SENDING THE EMAIL AND SCHEDULED A TIME. THEN ABOUT 2-3 DAYS LATER, THEY CALLED AND CANCELLED THE APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THEY STATED THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY WINDOWS TO SHOW ME. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL BACK WHEN THEY HAD SOME TO SHOW. BY THIS TIME, I ALREADY HAD DECIDED THAT I DID NOT EVEN WANT THEM TO DO THE JOB, SO I TOLD THEM SO. IN THE MEANTIME, I GOT OTHER ESTIMATES AND SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH ANOTHER ANGIE'S LIST COMPANY. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THEIR ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT--WHICH THEY CANCELLED--THEY PHONED AND ASKED IF I STILL WOULD LIKE AN ESTIMATE!

INSTALLATION CREW WAS ON TIME AND VERY COURTEOUS. HAD DIFFICULT TIME MOVING FURNITURE AS THIS IS A SMALL HOUSE AND MY FURNITURE IS VERY HEAVY. HOWEVER, THEY WERE VERY CAREFUL AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ANYTHING. THEY WERE EQUALLY CAREFUL IN REPLACING EVERYTHING UPON COMPLETION. THEY EVEN MADE SURE THE TV'S WERE WORKING. THEY LET ME VACUUM BEFORE REPLACING THE FURNITURE SO THAT I COULD GET UP SMALL PIECES FROM CUTTING THE CARPET.

I MET WITH THE FIRST EMPIRE CONTRACTOR ON OCTOBER 4, 2004. WE AGREED ON A PRICE AND COLOR AT THAT TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT THE JOB WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY FOUR DAYS WITH A 5-6 MAN CREW. IN SHORT, THIS PROCESS TOOK 225 DAYS AND WAS FINALLY COMPLETED MAY 17, 2005. I EXPERIENCED AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF HEADACHES THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS. I WORKED WITH A TOTAL OF 3 DIFFERENT CONTRACTORS, BEING TOLD EACH TIME THAT THE PREVIOUS CONTRACTOR HAD BEEN FIRED OR HAD QUIT. THROUGHOUT THIS TIME I WAS ADVERTISING THE PROPERTY FOR RENT, WHICH I COULD NOT SHOW BECAUSE OF THE HOUSE BEING FILLED WITH MATERIALS. A CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATE WOULD BE THAT I MADE APPROXIMATELY 50 PHONE CALLS (2 PER WEEK) DURING THIS PROCESS. EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE TO LISTEN TO FIVE MINUTES OF EXCUSES AND REASONS WHY THE JOB HAD YET TO BE COMPLETED. THE SECOND CONTRACTOR ALSO FAILED TO DO A QUALITY JOB.

I HAD ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE GENTLEMAN WHO CAME OUT NEGLECTED TO TELL ME I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING THE CLOSET DOORS OFF. WHEN THEY CAME TO LAY THE CARPET, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO IT. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP OR CALL. THE THIRD TIME THEY DID COME, BUT THEY LEFT ALL OF THE CARPET LINT ON THE CARPET. I ASKED IF THEY WERE GOING TO CLEAN IT UP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T DO THAT. THEY DID OFFER TO DO IT IF I WOULD GET MY SWEEPER OUT, WHICH I DID. THEY LEFT THE QUARTER ROUND IN A PILE ON MY FRONT PORCH. I WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE WAY THEY SEAMED IT IN THE HALLWAY. THE INSTALLERS WERE SUBCONTRACTORS. THE QUALITY OF THE CARPET IS FINE. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE SALESMAN.

THEY EVENTUALLY BROUGHT IN A DIFFERENT CREW THAT WAS UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, AND I WOULD NOT HAVE THEM NEAR MY HOME AGAIN. THE MANAGER MADE SOME SMALL ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES, BUT I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE.
