I worked with John Easley, area manager, who was professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. They were growing into the house and I wanted them trimmed back 4/5 feet and shaped nicely. John instructed his crew or approx 4 guys and they spent 3/4 hours and did an excellent job. They had a tree limb shreader with then and cleaned with the yard perfectly. Be careful of tree services or door knockers who offer to trim or " top" your trees. I've seen trees recently that the tops are just sawed off...bad idea.
Description of Work: Trimmed and shaped 2 large Ash trees in front yard. Hitting the house and grass wouldn't grow in the shade caused by the tree diameter.

Rick was great to work with. Very responsive. Only had one issue: when I asked to keep the wood from one of the trees they cut down, they took it. As soon as I said something to Rick, however, he brought it right back the next day for us. Stumps were ground very well and there is no indication that they were ever there! I will definitely call them again if I ever need anymore tree work done.

I asked Bartlett Tree Service to quote and make suggestions for two trees in our back yard: one, a large silver maple, and the other, an older Bartlett Pear that has been steadily losing limbs in high winds. Of the several prominent tree services to come out and take a look, only the arborist from Bartlett had a suggestion for saving the Bartlett Pear. Compared to the other tree services, Bartlett's estimates were significantly lower for exactly the same services: trim and thin both trees, and install reinforced cables to prevent further damage in high winds. I scheduled the work with Bartlett Tree Services. Their crew arrived exactly on time, with more than the equipment necessary. They were friendly and professional, and got right to work. They brought immaculately maintained gear for climbing into the trees, and worked efficiently to thin and trim the trees in a strategic way that preserved the shape, shade, and health of the tree, while minimizing its "sail". The crew moved several yard items out of the way, and replaced them after the job was done. They picked up every last leaf and twig, and our yard was cleaner after they left than before they arrived. The final invoice wasn't a penny more than the original quote. From the very beginning, Bartlett Tree Service was friendly, helpful, informative, patient, and delightful to work with. Thanks again!

We have some diseases on my maples and on my spruce. The trees have been looking a lot better with what they have been doing to them. The trees are improving. The guys are all nice. I have seen different guys and they are nice. They talk to me and they leave a little thing on my door. I've had no problems with communication or anything. If I had questions, they answered them. I had some questions initially about the trees, but other than that, they usually come when I am gone.

I contacted Michael Seybert on Angie's List and asked for a quote on a 29 ft Poplar Tree to be cut down in the backyard. I should probably have Michael on our speed dial, because he's done a lot of work at our properties, and is always professional, prompt and honest. He came out to my mother's home and gave a quote and estimated time on removing the tree. They came out on Aug 5th, cut down the tree, left the wood for us to use as firewood, and cleaned up the area that they cut the tree down. They also accommodated my mother's request, which she asked them to take the truck in a certain part of the backyard, staying out of a the backyard, and not through the softer area of the backyard. Michael and the crew with Bartlett are great at what they do, and fair on price. Thanks!

I have described the details of this work above. My neighbor paid for the work but I was please to help Ernesto and Locero finish their work more efficiently by using my backyard. They were highly professional and even gave me advice on trees in my yard. So, I did not pay anything for this work, but wanted to comment on their superior work and professional behavior.
Description of Work: On Saturday, August 2, my doorbell rang and it was Ernesto from Bartlett Tree Service. He explained that he was taking out a tree in my neighbor's yard and asked if he could have access to my property since the tree was right next to the property line and the neighbor's garage. The task took all day and had I not granted access, their day would have been even longer. Using various tools and ropes, Ernesto and Locero took down the tree, branch by branch with expert precision. I was very impressed. Eventually, they had several large branches in my yard but promised to clean up everything. When I returned from dinner around 9 pm, they had cleaned up my back yard even taking branches that I had cut down, and they cleaned off my driveway from all debris. I was very surprised about the extent of their clean up and very much appreciated their work.

I have them do service on 4 some odd trees one year and 4 some odd trees the next. We rotate trees. They are here for a couple of hours. Whatever product they are putting into the trees it takes them awhile to get through there. It takes them a couple or 3 hours to get through it. I've talked to this guy for a couple of years and I like him. I think that they do a good job on what I have them do. They are always responsive and they always get me a quote quickly. They have been prompt. They are quick to respond with any questions. I've been happy with what they are doing with the Ash bore. We have quite a few ash trees that we are trying to save here.

I have used Bartlett at least twice over the 18 years I have lived in my house, and they always did a good job. But my latest experience was a nightmare, to say the least. I got a proposal for trimming dead and diseased branches from a maple tree in front of my house and a Siberian elm in the back. I also wanted a small branch from a neighbor?s tree (which was brushing against the fascia on my house) removed. (The latter job could be done with a pole pruner.) The arborist/sales rep who did the proposal told me that I would need a permit for the maple since it was on city property, between the sidewalk and the street. (I was aware of this, but was willing to pay for the work myself rather than calling the city to have the work done. I thought there was chance that the city would just cut the tree down since there were two very large dead branches and several smaller ones.) He got the permit and the work was done in October 2013. I was away from my house part of the time that the two workers were trimming my trees. When I got home, one of the workers was in my neighbor?s tree getting ready to cut off a very large limb hanging over my house, so I was able to stop him in time. My neighbor was very upset, although I tried to tell him that I had not requested that the large limb be removed, and they apparently had not asked to enter his yard and climb the tree. I was also really shocked to see the condition of the maple. Not only had they trimmed out the dead wood, but they also reduced the crown of the tree by at least one-third. It looked like a ?topped? tree, something this company describes as a bad practice and which I would have never requested. Almost every large limb had been lopped off, leaving ugly stumps. I called and left a message for the arborist/sales rep?while the workers were still there?and told him about the problem with my neighbor?s tree and the damage to the maple, but I never heard from him. I went back out to talk with the workers, who had begun work on the Siberian elm. They seemed unsure what to do on the elm and were probably hesitant since I had stopped them from trimming the large limb from my neighbor?s tree. They were not proficient in English and I don?t speak Spanish, so we did not communicate well. They did climb the elm and do some trimming, but did not really do much near the top of the elm, which is probably 100 feet tall. A week or so after I paid the invoice (and still had not heard from the sales rep), I did get a call from someone in the Bartlett office. I told her about the problems I had had, and she offered to have the sales rep call me, but I declined. The damage had been done and I thought I would just wait to see what the city had to say about the work on the tree. I was not surprised when, in late November, I received a copy of a ?Notice of Violation? that had been sent to Bartlett by the Department of Code Enforcement, stating that Bartlett had violated the city code by topping the maple in the public right-of-way. The city?s Environmental Inspector for Forestry and the Bartlett sales rep met in front of my house soon after this notice was sent, and then a few days later Bartlett workers did a few additional cuts on the tree in an attempt to improve the appearance (which it did not). Part 2: In early January, during a heavy snowfall, several very large branches from the Siberian elm fell, pulling down my telephone wire and cable and damaging the gutter on my garage and causing other damage. To be fair, I know that Siberian elms did not do well during this particular storm, but I thought that having the tree trimmed and inspected in October was a way to safeguard against such damage. I called another company to remove the debris that week, and then recently had this same company come back and do more trimming on the elm. The new company used a bucket lift truck, and the man who did the work (he is also the company owner) spent more than an hour cutting off many dead limbs and checking others. And he did all this for about $250 less than Bartlett had charged for the minimal work on the elm in October. I think that poor communication was the problem with Bartlett. Why weren?t the Bartlett workers (who were nice enough and seemed skilled) better supervised, since they did seem to have difficulty communicating in English and understanding what they were supposed to do? Why wasn?t I better informed about ?structural pruning,? if it meant reducing the crown of the maple? (I was never informed about the drastic reduction of the crown.) Why didn?t they use a bucket lift to prune the Siberian elm, which is really the only way to reach high enough? Why didn?t I get a call back the first time I called? I regret that I didn?t do a better job of complaining back in October and that I paid the invoice. Aside from the fact that some hazardous limbs were removed from the maple, I feel that all the money I paid was wasted. The maple is still standing in the front, and does have buds, so it may look much better when it has leaves. I?m not sure if the city and Bartlett have decided whether to keep the tree (or take it down and have Bartlett plant two new ones, which was the original request). I?m just hoping that, if the tree remains, I will get to the point that I can drive down my street and see that tree without being sick at heart.

I apologize that you were not pleased with the outcome of our pruning. We strive at all times to provide quality service and it is clear that you are not happy. That being said, I met with you to look at your trees and wrote the specifications based on your input. The Maple on public right-of-way was in very poor condition as it had been topped by others at least once before. Almost every limb in the top of the tree was dying back. The most significant limbs were 50% dead. I advised that the City would likely condemn the tree and want it removed. I also advised that, as they owned the tree, this would be done by their staff at their cost. You stated that you wanted to keep the tree, if possible. As the former Urban Forestry Manager for this community I wrote up specifications to extend the life based on my knowledge of the ordinances of the community. Unfortunately, no one from the current City Forestry staff inspected the tree before issuing the permit. The new, inexperienced forester who inspected the work after the fact overreacted and issued a notice of code violation without the facts or prior knowledge of the tree. After meeting with one of their trained arborists it was agreed that they would retract the notice of violation after we did a little more touch up pruning. I agree with you that the tree is less than attractive, but it will survive safely for several more years and the pruning was done to agreed upon specifications and ANSI standards. We had specifically discussed how more than half the tree would be greatly reduced by just removing dead ends of branches, but we would try to find good live branches to cut back to. The Elm tree in back was also pruned to specifications. When we met on site the you stated that you only wanted the dead limbs removed and a couple of low limbs raised to improve clearance over your service wires. This is what was done. Unfortunately, we experienced a really heavy snowfall this winter that caused a lot of limb breakage all over central Indiana. Especially hard hit were Siberian Elms and White Pines.

The work involved pruning deadwood out of a large sugar maple and large sweet gum tree at our home in the Broad Ripple area. I have never had this done in the winter, but the company actually recommends it because it is easy to inspect a tree with no leaves obstructing the view. They told me beforehand that the trees were not in great need of pruning, although it would reduce the amount of debris falling to the ground during storms. I appreciated their honesty, but went ahead and contracted for the work because the two trees truly define our small property. Three workman arrived mid-morning and their work was completed in about two hours. They cleaned up well after themselves and the trees look great. The sales representative and the workman were all very professional. I will definitely hire them again.

The crew came out in the late morning/early afternoon. They removed all the broken limbs from the tree, replaced the broken cable, and mulched all the debris. They even mulched some limbs from other trees that I had in a pile on the property, as well as some more that I picked up from various parts of the yard. The crew was very professional and skillful. I was impressed with how safety conscious they are. They even raked up some of the smaller branches and twigs broken off as they worked. Yes, they're fairly expensive, but the quality of the work seems to be worth it. I've used the company for a number of years. They've cured my blue spruce of an insect infestation, and are keeping the REALLY HUGE oak tree very close to my house in my back yard in tip top shape with regular pruning and fertilization. They've also cut down some weeping cherries that are at the end of their life span. I usually have those types of trees removed in the winter when the rates are lower.
Description of Work: I have a silver maple in the front yard with a main trunk that splits into 3 about 4 feet above the ground. Bartlett had previously installed cables between the 3 different main trunks about 2/3 of the way up the tree. The cables were to support the tree and keep any one of the trunks from breaking off and falling on the house. I had had the tree and cables inspected in October as part of their regular annual inspection service. The strong wind storm on the weekend of 11/2-3 caused one of the cabled trunks to twist and break at the level of the cable insertion. A large branch was on the ground, but another was hanging in the tree, and one of the 3 cables was broken. The cables worked as advertised. None of the broken branches came anywhere near the house! I called the company first thing Monday morning. The arborist came right out and looked at the tree. He said that the tree needed immediate attention.

DUH, they were hired to spray apple trees to prevent worm or insect damage, and they recommended 8 sprays throughout the year. Everything was fine until the last spray when they sprayed AFTER I had harvested the apples AND SENT ME A BILL. Was the crew so stupid that they couldn't see that there was not one apple on the trees they were spraying to keep the apples edible? Also, I used Bartlett for many years, but with each successive year their recommendations for "needed" work grew and grew. I certainly felt like they were just milking me for money, creating "make work" estimates, not estimates based on my property's true needs.

Our fruit tree managment program is designed to help improve not only fruit quality, but also plant health. Treatments may occur after the fruit is harvested to help maintain the trees themselves, as the program is an Integrated Pest Management program. The foliage on the trees is susceptible to foliar leaf disease and insect infestation. Our Plant Health Care Specialists are highly trained, skilled and experienced individuals, who recognize that, regardless of the absence of fruit, the trees need ongoing care to help maintain the overall health and vigor. After providing service for you for more than ten years you, we are regretful that we fell short of your expectations with the treatment we provided this visit, and with recent recommendations.

Easy to obtain estimate, just sent an e-mail. We have had work from Bartlett's before, and Rick Carter goes above and beyond. He regularly comes out and inspects trees and sends information about condition of our trees(and we don't have a huge yard). This time, however, we received a better price from another well rated company. Our experience in the past has been great with Bartlett's and would certainly use them again.
