Ballard Tree Service

Three stumps were ground - that was done well. Problem is driver drove all over my property - going down and up hill into a wetland behind my house rather than go back to the street to get to the other side of house. Then he backed every which way over my neighbors yard. Might also mention they were 3 days late from scheduled appointment with no notification they were missing scheduled appointment or arrival on day they did come

had an appointment on Monday...time of appointment came and went...attempted to call him numerous times with no answer...we then received a text from him saying that he changed our appointment to Wednesday and his "secretary" was supposed to call us...where was that secretary when we called six times wondering where he was....my husband missed a day of work and a radiation treatment to stay home for this appointment...very unprofessional and left a rather nasty message when we cancelled and told him to stay off our property...would not recommend

Other than hitting my front window with a fairly large piece of the tree trunk, I was fortunate the window didn't break. I'd rather not expound on the rest of my experience. All I care to say is, if your request for service is in Hobart, Indiana, DO NOT use service provider. And Angie's List should do a much better job vetting their service providers!

We found Ballard. Jim came out for an estimate the same day we contacted him. We were pleased with what he quoted us. He recommended some additional work that we agreed on and he gave us a great price on as well. They were scheduled to do the work within the week. They were prompt and discussed everything before work began. However, that's where our positive experience ends. We couldn't have found this at the time of service because they packed up and left without speaking to us let alone having a walk through. The lawn has deep divots all over from the trucks and wood. There was almost no clean up whatsoever. There were huge branches left in the flower beds & lawn and several of my plants were crushed. In two places brick edging was smashed, cracked, or broken. When we called Jim he sent the crew back out to clean up. When we came home, only the front yard had been partially cleaned and the broken items have never been addressed. We were not offered compensation and now we have to clean our own lawn after paying all that money! I have since called him again but have no response. I had very high hopes and little reservation about hiring Ballard with the reviews on Angie's List. I don't know why we received the service we did and many other people on here received excellent service. I'm amazed by all the people who claim the clean up was so good. Where was that company at our house? The pictures show the size of the branches left behind even after the second clean up and some of the damage done to our property. A new home has plenty of expenses and now thanks to Ballard, we have even more.

Based on reviews here on Angie's List I had Ballard come out on Wed. April 19,2017. The experience was fantastic. There was no standing around, they got to work right away (Very Professional). The crew was friendly, courteous, and respected my property. Right after the tree was cut down and the stump ground down, there was of course left over debris (wood chips, limbs). Then the crew got to work on the yard. After the crew cleaned up the yard, the yard looked just like it did before the tree was removed. After the very positive experience on the 19th, I called them back to remove a second pine tree. Again, the service was fantastic. They cleaned they yard up and you could not tell that any work had been done outside of the tree no longer being there. In my opinion the Ballard Tree Service is number one! If Angie's list did the star rating scale, I would give them five stars!

The project started off well. Jim had cut down two small trees in front of my house. The price was reasonable and service was quick so I added 4 additional trees to the job. Jim gave me a good price for the additional work. I had work out of town and informed Jim that I would pay him for the job with the anticipation of a satisfactory job as before. I identified 4 trees which were to be cut down. My words to Jim were the two "middle trees" to be removed in the front of my house. In the contract Jim abbreviated the word middle with "Mid". It seemed ok to me as mid is an acceptable abbreviation for middle. I didn't make much out of it and signed the contract. On the day of the removal my wife contacted me informing me that Jim was infact cutting down the wrong tree - A much larger tree that I told him we would not cut as it was partially on my neighbors property. My wife attempted to inform Jim that he was cutting the wrong tree but he was insistent that he was cutting the correct tree that he and I agreed upon. I asked my wife to have Jim review his contract. He informed her that the contract was not with him but nonetheless he remembered our conversation. She went inside our house and retrieved our contract to show Jim. Although he saw the information in black and white, he stated that he remembered what he and I discussed. He then went on to inform her that "Mid" actually meant "Medium". It would have made no difference nonetheless as he cut down the largest tree. I left Jim a voicemail and he called me back. After going back and forth with him I realized that Jim would not be taking ownership for his mistake. I was faced with a dilemma to contract the intended tree at a higher cost to another vendor or see if Jim would remove the tree at a reduced cost or even a loss to him. Since Jim cut down the incorrect tree my expectation was that rather than have me pay the original price, he would cut down the intended tree at a reduced rate. Jim instead quoted the same price to remove the tree as he did the previous trees. To get through this matter I agreed to have the tree removed. Jim's professionalism leaves much to be desired. Regardless of what he believed to be truth of our conversation, he wrote down what our end agreement was, and what my understanding was on our contract. I have a business and I know that this lack of transparency is completely unacceptable in todays business environment. The lack of professionalism is why I would not use his company again.

Great guy, awesome service, would recommend them to anyone and everyone. Will definitely use them again!

Ballards Tree Service was quick to respond, came out the next day to discuss what I wanted done. They gave me an estimate and came out the following day to do the work. Jim was professional and courteous. They took down a tree that was hanging over our power lines and roof and fence. There was a lot to work around. They did a GREAT job and cleaned up the mess. I will be calling them again and I WILL BE RECOMMEDING THEM!

Service went great. .Responded to phone call promptly, Came out & gave estimate the next day plus scheduled work within 3 days. Readily adjusted estimate when required work was decreased. On work day, he & his crew arrived earlier than appointment, worked fast & efficient, did what was required and cleaned up very well. Jim is pleasant, knowledgeable and wiling to listen to questions about other tree needs plus offering suggestions even when dealing with a woman!!!!! His card is in our file.

IT WENT WELL TOOK DOWN THE TREE WITH NO PROBLEMS, GROUND THE STUMP. WHEN THE DEBRIS WAS REMOVED THERE WAS STILL ALOT OF LARGE ROOTS STICKING UP SO I CALLED JIM AND ASK HIM TO COME BACK AND GRIND THEM AND HE DID AT NO CHARGE.

Jim came out ant cut down an ash tree. I told him my neighbor wanted the wood, and ask if he would cut the wood into smaller sizes. He told me he would cut the wood into fire wood pieces. When Jim came and got me to show me the work, the men were still cutting the wood. After I went into the house they must of left, because when I went back out to look at the job once again, there were two large pieces of wood (as big as my dining room table) and other pieces of wood that were not "fire place size". I had to pick up cans off the ground the crew left, there was debris on the lawn, as well as on my neighbor's drive which he left them use to get to the tree. I had to pay a company to come and get the wood because it was so big. I called Jim and told him I was not happy with the job but, did not get a reply. I would never use this company again.

I was very impressed with how promptly Ballard Tree Service came out and gave me an estimate and how quickly he did the job. I was just going to have him remove the plant debris (there was a lot) but he offered to remove an old tree that needed to come down. And he didn't charge any more. How about that!!!! I would definitely recommend him and I know I will use him again in the future.

They were really nice and really good. They were very good and very professional. They didn't tear up my yard, like another company had. These guys didn't take a hunk of grass out. They were the lowest bid we got. They did a much better job than a company I had in the past. They showed me stuff while they were going along. He would show me a branch and say they had to cut that branch down because it had this or that or whatever.

I had a terrible experience with another tree service in which the owner became quite ignorant on the phone with me. So I asked around and was told to call Ballard Tree Service. Jim came out on Friday to give me a quote and was at my house Monday completing the work. He did more work for less money than my original quote from that other company. I will recommend Ballard Tree Service to everyone! We were extremely pleased with every aspect of the experience!
