I bought "Miss Viola," my purple Schwinn cruiser bike, on sale from Meijer. After riding it once at Southeastway Park and bringing it home on my bike rack, the front brake was frozen. I took it to BGI, walked in the door and told a service guy my problem. I am embarrassed to say that he gently took my handlebars and spun them around a couple of times, freeing up my brake cables and solving the problem. (and told me that it happens all the time). I was so impressed that I asked him to have the bike checked over, just to be sure everything was assembled correctly and working OK. An hour later they called to say Miss Viola was finished, and I was charged only $9.95. The service person insisted on carrying the bike out and putting it on my rack for me. When he saw the rack, he asked if I had some kind of bar that would make getting it on the rack easier (I had never heard of such a bar, and had had a lot of trouble getting Miss Viola on the rack). He didn't pressure me or try to get me to buy it, just mentioned that it would make getting the bike on and off the rack easy for me. So I went back in and bought one ($40), and it is the smartest purchase I have made. I joke with the guys there that I have an "old lady" bike, but they are very gracious and pleasant, don't treat me like I'm stupid, and I feel really good about going there for my bike service. I'm sure I provide comic relief for them, but I feel like I am treated fairly and that the advice I'm given is relevant to my bike and my riding habits. Great place, and I am so glad they expanded down to the South side.
Description of Work: My bike "problem" was immediately diagnosed. I also paid to have the bike just generally checked over.

Description of Work: I purchased a gift certificate for someone's birthday. The customer service I received convinced me that his was a good place to do business. I didn't feel at all pressured and they took time to answer all my questions. Later I went back to get m own bike serviced. They did a great job and even cleaned my bike up completely when they were done.

I took my bike in and they were very helpful in assessing my needs. They explained what they were going to do and asked me a lot of questions about my riding history. They also helped me pick out some new handle bar grips which would ease hand fatigue since I have had carpal tunnel surgery. They were very personable and friendly.
Description of Work: I took my bike in for a tuneup and new grips. I took it to the Greenwood shop.

There isn't a bike store near my house, so when I went to visit my daughter two differetn times, I took my bike for repair. One time was to fix the front grip shift which I ended up replacing. The other time was to adjust the frame after I backed into my bike when pulling out of the garage (the wind blew it over as I was backing out). In both cases, I explained that I lived 50 miles away and they did the repair immediately while I waited. It was quick and they explained what they were going to do and why. In case of the frame, I had asked one other shop how they would do it and I could tell they didn't know what they were doing. BG said they would do it the way I had read about using a specific tool to measure the alignment. It turned out good, and like I said while I waited.
Description of Work: Replace grip shift. Adjust frame.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good variety of bikes and accessories. The store manager, Bob, helped me get fitted for my bike and let me go for a test ride in the parking lot. I will definitely be coming back here for future tuneups and parts.
Description of Work: Bought a hybrid bicycle, spare tires, inner tubes and patch kit. They also gave me a free tuneup after I put 200 miles on my new bike.

Visited BGI-South and talked with sales rep about what I was wanting. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. One item had to be ordered, but they contacted me when it was in, and I picked it up. Great bicycle company. I will definitely use them again.
