"The technician that provided the service has 10 years of experience. He diagnosed the problem to be correct and provided the customer was an estimate to repair the line. Several messages were left for the member regarding the estimate (11-24-09 @11:40AM; 12-4-09 at 12:20PM; 12-11-09 @ 1:51PM and then faxed on 12/15/09). The member response as to the technician acted as if she was crazy was only a perception on her part. Unfortunately, as with any Company, there is always someone else out there cheaper. We requested the other Company's name so that we can actually verify a reputable Company performed the work and not just a handyman due to required licenses. The customer will not provide this information so I can only assume that it was not a reputable."
UPDATE and response to the Provider - we are not going to belabor this nightmare, but to address a couple of important points - I personally made the phone call to ask for the service and I was NEVER given an estimate over the phone. I testified to this in court. In hindsight, I obviously wish I had but I had other quotes that were about half the price and I assumed they were in the same range. I would have never hired them had I known the price up front - that is ultimately what I think convinced the magistrate that we were telling the truth because their price was so far out of line. Also, it is not true and we testified in court, that we were given an invoice before the job. The technician walked directly to the back yard and started working. We have the carbon copy receipt from the invoice in our hands to this day that only has one set of writing. So the technician or someone else wrote something else on their copy of the invoice but it did not make it to the copy we have because we were not shown the invoice ahead of time. We won the case so that is really the bottom line - we are not lying and our account is the way it happened.
Also - they did not unclog the line. The owner would not know this since we never called him back since he was taking us to court. The drain still did not work properly and I eventually fixed it myself.
The bottom line is to make sure you get an estimate for work ahead of time and also make sure you get estimates from other providers.
"Our jetting price was quoted over the phone by our CSR at the proper rate. The following is actually what was paged to the technician from the CSR (JETT sump pit line to retension pond aware of svchrg quoted $396.95 - $185.00 add'l hrs DLN & DOB on file wf). This information informs the technician exactly was was discussed with the customer. Jetting involves a very expensive piece of equipment and is extremely effective. The invoice was signed to begin work and at the completion. The member claimed in court that she signed both for the work to begin and the completion all together. Which in fact was false because the ink for the work to begin was in blue and the completion was signed in black. Although the judge did agree that it was signed at 2 different times, there was not WRITTEN estimate on the invoice before the work began. Since this experience, we have changed our procedure. There must be an estimate written on the invoice, then initiaed by the customer before work begins. There was no problem with the work that was done. We completed the work and their problem was solved. As far as the sump pump, our 1st visit was 7/15/2008. The following a description of work performed - Sump pump/sewer pump continuously running. Pulled top of pump, cleaned pump and pit. Found Q-tips, oxy pads, mouthwash cap, and a toothpaste cap lodge in pit. Which indicated WE did not replace the pump which the member indicates. Previous owner must be another company. Our 2nd visit was almost 1 year later, which is for the jetting of the line to the pond. He must have us confused with another company regarding the pump."
