I have used Bill's services before and will definitely use him again! He is very nice, prompt and professional. His carpentry skills are amazing and he is a perfectionist, so the job always comes out looking great. I will not hesitate to call him again and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Bill Burtt!
Description of Work: We were experiencing problems with our back door shutting properly and it was causing a lot of heat to escape our home. I was also afraid that mice would start coming into our home thru the large gap in the side. I called Bill and he was able to come out the same day to take a look at our problem. He needed to order special material to properly insulate our door. Once he received the material, he came out promptly and installed the insulation and repaired the door and locks so it would close properly.

it was a miserable experience from the moment he opened his mouth.
Description of Work: We had a really big job for a 3 level home that had pipes burst in 11 places. This man came to the appointment and was arrogant and outright rude. My husband, who is fairly tolerant walked out of the room after a few minutes of listening to him, having decided he did not care what the guys price was - he would not hire him. I was very polite and showed him the variety of things we wanted quoted. He scoffed at me that I wanted to change out a style of bannister that looked more like it belonged in a country farm house than the neo classic style the rest of our home had built into it's features. I told him our realtor suggested it and he snickered and said "what is your realtor? - a bannister salesman?" I did not call him in to tell me what to change or not change - just how much it would cost. He asked who was going to do my cabinets in my kitchen and I told him I was having lowes do them and he said "you are in over your head here" and "I don't think I can work with someone who would have lowes install cabinetry". I have had Lowes do cabinets for me before and they were excellent quality and installed perfectly. He was so judgmental and mean it just ruined my day. I felt competent and like things were going well with putting back together this huge disaster in our home until he came there and belittled us and put us down. We are half way through the rehabilitation of our home now. It was a 90k job that required lots of sub contractors to work well with each other and be self sufficient. They have all been great and I am relieved this stinker showed his true colors right up front so he did not ruin the good flow and vibes we have with the other folk working on the house. If you want a prima donna this is the guy for you. If you want someone who is pleasant and works well with others - run.

Mr. Burtt restored the doors to mint condition. The job was difficult, but Mr. Burtt used an epoxy mixture that he prepared according to his own formula. The stuff is difficult to work with, but it turned out an excellent result. On time and for the estimate price. He is the epitome of an expert craftsman.
Description of Work: We asked Mr. Burtt to repair two sets of wood and glass French doors that had been attacked on bottom by rot, on which we had been slow to take action.

I had to move my 82-year-old mother out during that time, and he was great about cleanup and maintaining security. Bill also lowered a back door on the porch that had been installed incorrectly. The prior contractor botched up the door jam and the installation. I have to admit I was extremely nervous about replacing these doors, as my luck with contractors has not been good. That said, the doors look incredible and were worth the investment. I was also impressed with the fact that Bill never once asked me for a check, not even a down payment until the job was done. This is a guy who stands behind his work. Bill is a consummate professional and I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Replaced two doors in a historic home. He came out and pre-measured a couple of times to make sure he got the order right. The process took several months, close to three to have the doors custom made. Bill was great at communicating time frame, he followed up with samples of stain. He also makes sure he gives you his expert of opinion on what will work and/or look best. When the doors arrived, he installed within a two day time period.

He looked at everything that I wanted to have done and told me he would get back with me. However after he left, I never heard anything back from him. I even tried calling and left one message; after that I didn't try anymore and moved on to another company. I would have preferred him letting me know that it wasn't what he wanted to do instead of never hearing back from him.
Description of Work: He came out to give me an estimate on a desk, a closet area, and some shelving.

If you've got antiques made of wood and you're trying to get them restored, fix missing pieces, etc., look no further!
Description of Work: Custom wood working for different projects. Bill was the consummate professional who did quality custom work like one usually can't find anymore when trying to restore century old antiques. The guy is right out of the old time craftsman. Bill is a first rate custom craftsman like the old days from the era of the antiques I was having him restore. If you want a craftsman, Bill's your guy!

I contacted Bill Burtt by e-mail on a Friday afternoon. He promptly replied to my request (on a holiday weekend even) the next morning and offered to come out that same day for a free estimate. My schedule wouldn't allow, so we agreed on a few days later. He e-mailed me the estimate a few days after that and we were pleasantly surprised at the cost (several hundred dollars less than the other contractor was going to charge us!). We agreed on a date to start the job and the stairs were finished after 3 days of hard work. What a beautiful job he did! His craftsmanship is out of this world! His close attention to every detail was amazing. We have a curved staircase which includes 2 odd shaped landings in which he mastered beautifully. He even took an extra piece of wood home with him and made a piece of molding to fit a corner where the railing was. I couldn't be more pleased with his work and would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs a talented, knowledgeable carpenter.
Description of Work: My husband and I previously had all new hardwood floors put in our kitchen, dining room and den by another contractor. At that same time, we purchased treads and risers of the same wood (Brazilian Walnut) with the hopes of having our staircase done to match the flooring. We had a horrible experience with the previous company and didn't wish to have them finish the project, so we searched the list to find someone who would. We found Bill Burtt who was more than willing to do this for us. Work done included: Tear out existing staircase carpet, treads and risers. Cut to fit, install, stain and finish the wood to match existing new floors. Material was provided by us.

The price for the job was less than what we had anticipated. We were very pleased with the work and would like to have him do additional woodworking for us.
Description of Work: We had woodwork placed in two rooms and a landing/hallway. Bill had purchased the wood and had the primer coat prior to the installation. He arrived early and got set up to cut the wood on the patio. The work was of very good quality and he did a good job of cleaning up after finishing.

I spent $5.00 on almond oil and it worked wonders! I REALLY appreciate the fact that Bill told me what to do and saved me a bunch of money. He could have easily come to my house, pulled out his "bag of tricks," and charged me a lot of money. Instead, he knew I could inexpensively fix it myself and saved me a bundle. What an honest guy! THANK YOU BILL!!!
Description of Work: A dog visiting our house scratched a wood post going down to our basement. I called Bill to see when he'd be able to come out to repair it (I needed it done quickly, before my husband found out!!) and he said he could squeeze me in the following day. However, he advised me to try almond oil on the scratches to see if that would fix it.

Very, very well. It was difficult finding someone to take on a small job such as this. My original trim carpenter would not return my calls, even though I left him a voice mail asking him to call even if he did not want to complete the work.
Description of Work: I needed about an 8 foot by 8 inch piece of trim replaced. It also required a couple of smaller pieces as well. He measured the area, bought the wood, and did the trim finishing at home. He brought it over and put it in. It fit perfectly and he had picked a very nicely grained piece of trim. He did an excellent job. I would use him again in a minute. We felt the cost was very reasonable for the work involved.

Bill is incredibly professional and talented. He worked very efficiently and competently. He even took the time to re-hang our mirror in a new position that he knew I was planning to do with out being asked! He has a great way with kids - I have a 6 1/2 year old who loves woodwork and Bill took the time out explain things to him and let him watch - my son really misses him now he's gone! Whilst I felt the price was a little expensive, Bill more than made up for it in his work, I would absolutely use him again and I would not hesitate to recommend him.
