The company came out today. Very unprofessional and misleading. I was under the impression that I was getting a licensed electrician but the man was a handyman. He said his name was Michael but his ID said Jason. I felt scammed and they also made me feel threatened in my own home when they raised their voices at me. The owner said he does not make hardly any money on these Big Deals and that I wasn't worth the trouble, that I should ask for a refund. I am upset because my kitchen is a mess, I took the day off work, and I still need the work done. I am very disappointed in this company and think you should take them off the Big Deal section as I feel they are misleading and scamming people. I would like a refund.
(I believe this review was left by the Angie's List representative and she got the names wrong for the guy that came out misrepresenting that the was a handyman. This was my review. As you can tell by the Apex response, they still will not address the issue as to why they sell vouchers for licensed professional electrical labor when the person they send out is NOT a licensed electrician.
Buyer Beware-I would strongly advise hiring this unethical company representing that the work done by their company.. Worse company to work with that I've ever had. I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for 2 hours of Licensed Professional Electrical Labor for $99 and 2 hours of Professional Handyman for $79.00. I scheduled it 3 weeks prior to the work being done. I have hired this company before for $2300 of work last year and the work was done well by the owner Dave but looks like he subcontracts the work out now.
Now it appears that the owner has subcontracted his work out to a sketchy character who calls himself both a handyman and electrician. At the appointment time, a beat up black truck drove up to my home and a sketchy looking man appeared on my door wearing a dirty black t-shirt and covered in tattoos. He said he was "Jason" the handyman to do my work and that he had a "helper" in the truck. I told him that I purchased the deal for an licensed electrician to install a couple of outlets and ceiling fans for 2 hours. He looked so sketchy that I asked for to see his electrician's license. He first said that he didn't have it with him and when I pressed, he finally admitted that he was NOT a licensed electrician and showed me his drivers licensed with the name "Michael" on it. I said, "I thought you said your name was "Jason" and he said, uh, Jason is my middle name but Michael is my first name. I just got a bad feeling about this guy and his "helper" in my house and they then left my home. I did not want them in my home and I definitely did not trust them to touch the electrical wiring in my home. Then, I called the owner, Mark and I informed him that he should not be representing that the Big Deal is for hours of licensed electrical work by an electrician when he KNOWS that they guy he subcontracts out to is NOT a licensed electrician just a sketchy looking guy.
Be warned-if you buy the Big Deals from this company -Mark the owner does not do this "small" work. He subcontracts it out to really sketchy looking guys with nasty looking tattoos who will tell you they are licensed electricians when they are not.
I filed a complaint with Angie's List and they will be contacting the owner to tell him to STOP representing that the Big Deal is performed by a licensed electrician when it is NOT.
"I have personally performed various projects for this individual such as a whole house replacement of windows, casing, and exterior trim. I also performed troubleshooting of electrical items and correction of safety issues at her investment property. Upon final invoicing for the work performed she felt she could round down the invoice and short me on final payment. After the first project I performed for her, she called me to come give an estimate for repairs. After receiving the estimate. She tried to purchase our discounted labor coupons through the storefront in order to have the work performed. We do not perform site visits with discounted labor, I had informed of this, she then requested a refund for the coupons and did not contact me for the work. A couple of months later she purchases 2 hours of Handyman services and 2 hours of electrical. I schedule my technicians to arrive, she informed them of the handyman items to be performed and 1 technician went directly to work. My other technician performed a walk through with her to see of the other needs. She instructed him of changing out a ceiling fan. After he started to climb the ladder to perform, she stopped him from working and requested to see his license. He informed her that all license are located at the office. She asked them to leave the home until she could contact someone. I received a call from my employee explaining the situation. I immediately called the homeowner in which I reached her voice-mail. I started to leave a message and she was calling on the other line. I switched over to speak with her and asked what was the problem. I informed her that I do have copies of licenses located at our office, she began to rant. I simply requested that I think it would be best for you to request a refund from Angies List as I do not wish to perform any work for her because of previous instances as stated above. We are in no way misleading in our services and our feedback speaks for itself. Thank you, David Wilson"

"I have addressed this clients comments above in a previous feedback. The client should get the facts straight as I am the owner and my name is David Wilson. It says alot of someone who bashes someone for their personal appearance and not the quality of work. Please read explanation above."

"This client contacted us to schedule electrical services for her residence. Her first appointment was scheduled for June 17th for 2 hours. We only schedule our 2 hour coupons for the desired purchased time to ensure we fill our days. We cannot assume a client has more than / or less than the 2 hours. She called again to schedule a second appointment for 2 hours of service and informed me the scope of work would be fishing wiring down a wall cavity that typically takes 2 technicians, 1 in the attic and 1 to pull the wire. All scope of work is charged per man hour. This was explained to her. It would not be cost effective to send 2 employees to a job and only charge for 1. She had added additional items to be performed on her 2nd appointment. Her 3rd and last appointment was performed on July 2nd to finish off her desired scope of work and complete a patched an area of ceiling. I had spoken to this client prior to the scheduling of her 3rd appointment and she told me we had been at the residence 3 times already. I ensured her I have all scheduled dates in the office computer and indeed she had 3 service appointments, June 17th, 24th, and July 2nd. As you can see we are scheduled a week out due to work volume. Thank you for the time to leave your feedback!!"

"The above client had a deck constructed by us last year. Their existing deck that was in disrepair had mounds of bird seed and droppings that had to be removed prior to the construction of the new deck. After their new deck was constructed they inquired as to having the new deck sealed/ stained which is NOT a service that Apex design Build Inc performs. They contacted my employee directly to have this performed I indeed contacted this homeowner to let them know we do not perform this type of service. I had Jason contact them to remedy his involvement to help them in the issues they were having. He stated he contacted them and advise for them to pressure wash the bid feces from the deck and he would re-coat. they have failed to perform the cleaning and call back. I believe the issue is with the habit of feeding the birds and their droppings that affected the staining/ sealing. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!!"

I'll admit that getting to the chimney trim was difficult but it looks almost as bad now as it did with the rotted, holey wood that was up there previously. On the kitchen faucet, it is installed incorrectly. Has a pullout sprayer...when you pull it out, you cant put it back in without opening the cupboard under the sink and pulling the hose from under there. My husband will be fixing it this weekend.
The handyman did silicone on one side of our 13 stairs. He used a paper towel and his finger to smooth it out. It looked so bad, I scraped it all off last night and redid it myself. I have never done silicone before but it's really not that difficult and the work I did looks much better than those that he did.
In 8 hours, 3 pieces of chimney trim were painted with one coat of paint and put up, kitchen faucet installed incorrectly and stairs siliconed poorly.
I scraped and resiliconed both sides of all 13 stairs last night in about 45 minutes. Other things that were on the list to be done we not able to be addressed because of the time it took to do the other things (poorly). One of the other things was to rescreen our patio screen door. I also did that myself this weekend. Took about 30 mins.
I would not recommend the company and would never use them again. Even for the discounted price of $299, it still wasn't worth it.
"Dear Client, This is the owner of Apex Design Build. I wish your concerns would of been brought to my attention to rectify the situation. However most would like to go onto the List and leave bad feedback rather than communicating with the company to rectify the situation to a mutual satisfaction. I am sorry you feel you did not receive the service that you felt you should of. Again without communicating no remedy can be obtained. Thank you for your feedback!!"
"Dear Client, The area in which the desired exhaust fan was to be installed did not have an attic access above to expedite the removal of the existing fan in order to not damage the ceiling covering around the fan. This was explained to you in an email correspondence prior to scheduling. I have copy/ pasted your response below. 5/12/2014 Well, I guess you will just have time for the one in the 12' ceiling. There is no attic access in that area. We will take care of the others at another time. Thanks, Client I sent a helper to assist my technician and you were not charged for their time. I wanted share our side of the project to clarify. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!!"

This took 2 hours to perform.
2. Technician started on the basement right after and proceeded to install 25 outlets. I did have K & D Electrical do the preliminary job. So there were some questions on how or why the did a couple of the switches and outlets, like apparently running hot over the white and not the black. Jason the tech did inform me of this and did wire accordingly. It did take 5.5 hours to do the outlets and that is fine, I am assuming that if there were 2 electricians it would be about $100 an hour.
I did appreciate his communication and I did have to run to Lowes, to get a couple things, no problem since I was supplying all the materials.
I did notice that on my walk through that he missed a outlet. he did correct that. unfortunately I did miss another outlet that was not done. This was higher up on the wall for a tv placement by the bar.
Overall I am satisfied with the work performed by Apex and the electrician. I would also point out that the electrician was 1/2 early and ready to start which is great.

"Client purchased 2 hours of Handyman services, I attempted to schedule and client was to contact me after locating siding for installing at a voided area on home. I contacted client again after this review. He stated he did not grade us a "C". I am unsure of how we were given a " C " rating if client did not evaluate"
