Suggested cutting foam board and putting them over my crawlspace vents for the winter.  The problem is, they used Liquid Nails to attach the foam board.  I complained and asked them to come back and remove the liquid nails and then they charged me $88.98 more to do so.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They did a good job. I didn't pay any extra.

I was told that an awning installation was $295.  But there was an Angie's offer of 8 man hours for $299.  David at Apex said that they installed awnings and that they usually were done in 6 to 7 man hours.  So I thought I could get one or two small jobs in addition to the awning if I went with the super deal.  
The workers came on time.  I offered to show them the installation video but they declined.  I provided them with the full installation guide.  They worked and took some breaks. Then, at near the end of the four hours, they were done.  And when they pushed the button - the awning went....... down.  So they had to rotate the awning 90 degrees and make other adjustments.  And, in the end, the awning worked perfectly.  However, they went over the four hours.  To their credit, they did not charge me more.  So, in the end, I did get my awning installed to spec and I am enjoying it immensely.

They arrived the day after we called them and finished the work in a couple hours.    We have had no problem since.

The house had not been painted in 7 or 8 years (or more) and there was a lot of rotted wood  in the eaves and nail holes in the siding.    They showed upon time and did the whole thing in 4 or 5 days.     The place looked brand new when they left.   Neighbors did not recognize the place.    Nearly a year later the place still looks great.

Great, we have an old house and he was very knowledgeable and did a great job.

The repairman came out and took out the old outdoor outlet.  I gave him the new outlet and plastic cover (so water wouldn't short out outlet).
He finished in about 45 minutes (I purchased a 1 hour 99 special).  So, that was good.  I didn't have any other project and so left.
I was looking at the outlet and my outdoor light that was plugged in there.  I figured out that the outlet and attached plastic cover was installed upside down!  I immediately called and left a message with the company.  The repairman called back and said he tried the put it in that way first but it wouldn't work, so he installed it upside down!  I said I wasn't happy and when ut rains, the water will follow the cord directly to the outlet and cause a short.  He assured me that it is back in the unit and not to worry.
I have plasic edging placed over the unit so water won't hit the cord to go into the outlet.  NOT HAPPY.

Said work would take 5 days. It took 8 days plus a weekend for a toal of 10 days that we couldn't shower at home!

The deck was purchased as part of an Angie's List Big Deal for $1500.  The size of the deck was increased which was partially responsible for the increased price.  I additionally requested 2" x 8' lumber be used for the support instead of the proposed 2" x 6" timber on the proposal. 

Positive notes: Team was very friendly and efficient.  The builders took it upon themselves to build a higher than typical railing to accommodate my taller stature.  This feature has received favorable comments from many of my friends.  The deck has become a very popular location for relaxing and evening dinner. 

Critical comments: I was hoping to see detailed plan for the structure prior to building but instead was only shown a few pictures of other completed decks.  In the communications, I did not see the information stating it was my responsibility to obtain the building permits.  The deck looked very nice at the time of completion.  After allowing a few weeks for the timber to dry, I had the deck stained to help with weather protection.  It has been 10 months since the completion and some of the railing boards are warping and two of the six 4" x 4" support timbers are splitting.  I can repair/replace the railings but I am not certain about the support posts.  I was aware that the building crew purchased materials at the local Lowes, but I would have hoped that their building experience would provide materials compatible with our weather.  Overall, I think I could have done the job just as well and was hoping for a bit better. 

I have no issue with the quality of the work performed, but I was not happy with the overall experience.  The deal advertised "$99 for 2 hours of licensed professional electrical labor."  Two individuals arrived at my home and performed the work, requiring approximately 1.5 hours to install two ceiling fans.  I contacted David Wilson (owner?) and was told that the deal was for "two man-hours".  I am not an electrician, but I don't understand why installation of a ceiling fan requires two individuals and I did not understand from the offer that the deal meant "two man-hours".  In general, one individual performed the work and the other individual appeared to be just standing and talking.  Why am I paying for an Apex Design Build / Fiber Cement Siding employee to stand and talk?  In general, I should understand, prior to the job, how many individuals may/will be sent to perform the tasks and provided a "ballpark" estimate regarding the approximate time frame needed to complete the described work.  I should not pay for standing and talking.

They were very friendly and responsive, but we're going a different direction with our project.

I requested quotes from 4 companies to replace siding, windows & gutters. I had a hard time getting one of them out so I asked a 5th company. After reviewing the quotes, 1 had no detail, 1 did not get everything I asked for and 1 was very expensive.

The two remaining I asked some questions and Apex had the most detail, was the best price by a little. What I was impressed most of Dave at Apex is that he really understood what we needed and wrote it in detail in the quote.

The first phase was a small crew to replace the windows. They were expert carpenters and they were very detailed oriented. They even sent a window back because of a scratch that I probably would not have noticed. The cleaned up inside and out after each window was replaced and overall did excellent work.

The second phase was a larger crew who ripped off the siding wood siding and replaced with fiber cement lap siding. They were very good at their job and did an excellent job of doing everything right. They obviously took pride in their work and were very hard workers. They then painted and took pains not to get paint on anything but what they wanted. During this phase Dave found an area that was rotting under the siding with ants nest and all. They repaired the floor joists and the sub floor. They were very fair on the price on this extra work and it was a relief to have this fixed.

The third phase was the garage door and the vendor did an excellent job replacing the rails and the door was very nice compared to my 30 year old door. In addition the gutter guys came and did a great job and were done in less than 4 hrs.

The last phase was any touch up and adjustments made during Dave's inspection and mine. I only had a couple of areas that were very picky but they took care of them.

The house looks outstanding and we have had dozens of people stop and tell us how much they like the house and how new and fresh it looks. It was a great investment that I am confident that we will be worth at least $10,000 more than it cost me.

Dave and his crew were courteous, prompt, and reliable.  I had purchased a new vanity, faucets, and tile, and wanted to keep my soaking tub so as to keep the overall remodel cost down.  We are very pleased with the quality of work provided, as well as the appearance of the completed bathroom.   I highly recommend this company for anyone seeking to remodel.

It went well.  I am very pleased with the overal project but during the process I was somewhat frustrated with the level of communication.

Everything went great-- two employees came and worked through the circuit fix and installing the new lights.  They were professional and fast-- definitely got through more than we expected!  We would definitely use this provider again.

Jason and his assistant arrived on time, even a little early. They worked diligently, and performed a very good job installing the items I had asked. One of the windows was extremely difficult to install blinds on, and some said it can't be done, because of the window's close proximity to kitchen cabinets. but Jason, who is clearly very skilled, managed to make it happen. They were both polite and professional, and the price very fair. I intend to hire them again for more jobs at my house.

Weather permitting, workers here when they said they would be.   Isais (foreman) was exceptionally helpful, even helping me with colors, he made me feel comfortable with the work being done.   Dave, the owner, stayed in constant contact with me through the entire construction.  Submitting schedules for the coming week, calling me and stopping by.   When workers left for the day there was nothing out of place, all trash picked up, or, taken away that day.
All workers very polite, no loud music, or noise.  Very pleased.
I highly recommend Apex Design.  They do exactly what we agreed upon doing.  The team was very professional and reliable.  I strongly suggest Apex for any of your, gutters, painting, siding/soffits/trim, lighting installation, and Security Door replacement.  My home looks beautiful, I feel safer, and overall, I just can't say enough good about what a great company this is.  I have been through the "contractor" nightmare, we all have if you own a home.  But now I have a company I can call back to my home, and feel safe, for any remodeling/repair work that I will need done in the future.  I trust Apex to do a perfessional job, great pricing, and an assurance that I get what I paid for.  Great work Dave & Isais, and all the workers at Apex, you did a fantastic job!

I wasn?t too pleased as two electricians showed up for one hour.  One of the electricians didn?t do too much. They were fine with scheduling and the price was fair for two hours of work but I didn?t feel like I got two hours of work. 

 

They couldn’t work very efficiently due to the weather, but they still did a good job. They were also very nice people and would come and help me pick out colors. I liked working with them and they were on time, weather permitting.
