At the beginning the work started well but by the end the quality of work especially the drywall was subpar. Tom is slow in getting a quote to you but does respond. Tom is very nice but his staff is not professional especially Dave. I thought with Tom being in business as long as he has would be able to provide in a professional manner quality work. It is not true. Tom asked if I wanted his guys to take up the carpet. I thought ok. However, they tore up to 10 inches of drywall off many of the walls. They attempted to repair them but the work was subpar. I thought they were winding up work so I contacted the painters. The painters came in. There was tension between the paint foreman and Tom's crew. They were squabbling like elementary children on the playground. (I am not happy with the painters either but this is a separate matter) The walls unfortunately got painted with the poor drywall job. The painter did provide a drywall person to repair the worse spots. There are still poor spots on the walls but I wanted Tom and his crew out of my space. Each of the respective parties were blaming each other. This behavior is so unprofessional. On Friday last week, Dave was yelling at me over errors I did in trying to improperly apply color to the walls so I could see what it looked like (I applied the paint way before any drywall began). Again, because of poor communication the painters just painted over the poor drywall job. I did agree to pay for it since it was my mistake that should have been brought to my attention long before it was even painted over. Dave did such a bad job that there were air bubbles in the drywall because he did not let it set before he painted over it. Tom did have his other guy fix it. It looks better but not perfect. I had Tom put two new toilets in the space. There is now a big gash in the brand new floor where the floor doe not meet the toilet. There was not even going to be an attempt on Tom's part to fix this. In my opinion, all of the unnecessary drywall could have been avoided by properly having his guys take up the carpet right to begin with. I paid over $8,000 for unnecessary drywall, If you only have Tom's crew do the bare minimum that you need done for your project, then you are in good shape but BEWARE of them doing anything extra as it will cost you!

Tom Phelps came promptly when I called for an estimate. He is personable and friendly. He advised he was quite busy, and may take some days to get me a quote. It was several days before I got the Quote. I did like the quote, so I called to hire them. He said he would let me know when they were coming. It was only a couple of days before they were able to get to the job, he called twice to tell us the day, then the time they would be here. They arrived exactly as he said. They worked seeming efficiently, and cleaned up all debris nicely. The final price was precisely as he had quoted. I am pleased with the job.

Very happy with our renovated bathroom. We had everything replaced: tub/shower, double vanity, toilet, floor, lights, and hardware. They were able to start the work as soon as the materials arrived. Everything went smoothly even with a few changes we requested after the work started. We will use Phelps & Sons Construction again for future projects.

Outstanding Home Improvement Company ever TOM PHELPS AND SONS CONSTRUCTION 317-502-0196 OMG! The best company I have ever used ever! I had 16,000 dollars (amt estimated by insurance) in water damage to my condo due to a neighbor's leaking washer. I obtained estimates from several different businesses that I found on Angie's List. Tom and his son and the rest of his team that have worked together for years did an outstanding job putting my condo together. They had to remove and install new Luxury Vinyl Planks, replace all baseboards, paint and caulk, trim. I added additional projects: Installed quartz countertop in kitchen; purchased new appliances that Tom and his team installed, removed old backsplash and installed new ceramic tiles. Incredibly knowledgeable, honest, worked daily and did an excellent job with the daily clean-up at the end of the day. Tom found for me the least expensive source for the quartz. As they worked, I added additional cosmetic needs through-out my condo that they repaired. There was no limit to what they were able to do and do it well. By the end of the job, I felt like they were my family! Finally his charges allowed me to do all the extra's. His pricing was too good to be true. Please think of him when you need any work done!

They were very diligent on getting the project done correctly even with some glitches in the materials. Tom went to bat for me with the supplier and was very fair in the pricing. Our new deck is beautiful. Even when the new deck posts needed replaced due to bad material, Tom did the research and made new recommendations.

The team that worked on our porch came out daily and really took their time to make sure things fit just right; the attention to detail and craftsmanship was excellent. It was clear they take pride in their work and even went beyond my expectations on some cases, such as hiding the electrical wiring for a fan in notched pieces of trim making it invisible. Things went pretty smoothly overall, perhaps slower than expected (weather, crewing), but the end product was beautiful. There were a few issues that Tom addressed promptly.

Tom and his crew have been working on many different projects around our home for the past three years. We have come to depend on them for not only projects we want done, but also for repairs that we didn’t even know needed to be done. They are competent, trustworthy, clean and dependable. Tom came over and opening the wall behind the washer and dryer, replacing the dryer vent that had come apart inside the wall, cleaning out the mess that resulted, replacing the valves which no longer completely shut off, and then repairing the wall. He was on time for our appointment to look at the work and provided the quote in a day or two. He arranged to have two guys out to do the work about a week after I asked him to move forward. They were punctual, did an excellent job, and cleaned up well after they finished up. Tom made an adjustment to the pricing in the end since it turned out not to be as difficult a job as originally anticipated. The plumbing was sub-contracted -- he did a good job as well, although it took him quite a while to get there. They finished in the time estimated; if the plumber had been available earlier on the first day, they may well have not had to come back the second day. They had to come back three more times for 30 minutes to finish mudding/sanding the wall, which again was what I was told up front. Because of my work schedule, I had to reschedule the final return trip for the Saturday that week, which was not problem. I will absolutely call Tom again when I have work to be done in the future.

The job started as a bathroom remodel with just changing tile. After the tile was removed water damage was found and the job went from remodel to rebuild! Tom brought in additional crew to help out and keep things moving along. The guys were very precise and made sure that tile and other things were installed exactly how you wanted. They though of options that we had not considered! They also made sure that water damage would not be a problem again. The final result was beautiful and better then the original bathroom.

Amazing! For the first time in 13 years, we are warm in our sun room/family room in the winter!

Phelps and Sons quoted a price, gave me a date and performed the work for the price they quoted. They arrived the day and time they said they would and did a great job in raising the ceiling. I was very pleased with the work they performed.

Things started out well. Tom was able to come out the next day and take a look at a house that we were considering making an offer on to determine the extent of rehab it needed. He arrived on time, did a nice inspection and seemed to know what he was talking about. He also offered some suggestions and ideas. We asked if he could give us a ballpark figure, nothing we would hold him to, so we could decide if we should make an offer or not. He said that he would not and would provide us a more detailed estimate by the weekend. This was Wednesday. Friday, we emailed to find out if he had any idea (just asking if he thought it was greater than 75K or not) since our realtor was going on vacation and we wanted to make an offer before she left if possible. We received no reply. There was no contact at all until Monday morning (after a few more emails and voicemails) when we received an email giving us just a ball park estimate with no detail. We asked him if he intended to provide us with the details he promised but we still have not heard anything. I can understand if this was a job he didn't want to take on, but then he should of just said that. Not promised a detailed bid and then not carry through and cause us stress in not knowing what we should do about the house. We could of tried to arrange a different inspection then as well. It is too bad, because we will purchase a property in the next few months that will need at least some work and we would of liked to work with him.

Tom gave me a quote for his labor and an estimate on the total cost. I chose granite and tile higher than his quote because I did not like the selections at the estimated price range. He referred me to a sub contractor for the granite counter top and also for the back splash title. His total came to $1650.00 for removal of old tile, counter and installation of new tile in back splash Total project cost for Granite and back splash approximately-$7,800.00

This guy is amazing! Call him if you need ANYTHING done on a house! They were courteous, very assisting, they were so wonderful!

Tom Phelps and his crew did a great job replacing the front door, surrounding door frame and replacing the wood rot around the base of the front door. The men in Tom's crew were courteous and careful in their work and expedited the repairs as quickly as possible. They left the project work in a clean and excellent condition.

They started the job on time and finished on time. The workers were there and working promptly each day. They were brothers that had been with the owner for years and years! Everyone worked hard and were friendly. The owner was checking in frequently and very helpful with all our questions and requests! The screened in porch is completed and beautiful! We are so thankful that we chose Tom Phelps and Sons! We will use him again! There are no complaints and one more thing!! They were reasonable were very reasonably priced!

From start to finish, our experience with Tom and his crew was amazing.  I picked this company solely from the Angie's List reviews and I was not disappointed.  Tom responded back to my question (through the Angie's List website) within a couple of hours.  We then set up an appointment and as soon as he walked through our front door, I knew that we were going to hire him.  He has years of experience and you could tell from his demeanor that he was honest and trustworthy.  He sent us an estimate for our insurance company immediately and as soon as we were ready for him to start the work, his crew arrived the next day.  Matt (his son) and Jim were professional and courteous.  Their work was impeccable!  I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about this company.  It is such a relief to have someone we trust on the back burner for all future home repair needs.
