My comments reflect my experience with a gym membership and also with personal training through LA Fitness. I have attempted to keep comments about each experience separated below. The experience did not go well. The sales pitch was well rehearsed. After discussing my physical fitness goals, the sales person stressed the importance of one-on-one personal training. I specifically said I would be willing to invest in personal training for a month or two while we build out a fitness plan, and he said that that personal training is "month by month" and that would be perfect for me because I could cancel the personal training at the end of a month. He then provided me with a one page graphic that showed the benefits of training, had me electronically sign the last page of the contract, and said he wouldn't bother making me read it, and that a PDF copy would be e-mail to me later. I began my training sessions and quickly found out that customers are not assigned one trainer. Each time I had a different trainer, and there did not appear to be any consistent methodology or approach used. In fact, one trainer would contradict another and suggest completely different workouts. After a month or so I decided it wasn't working out, so I called to cancel my membership. That's when I was told I would have to pay a lump sum of over $600 to cancel. In fact, there is a form on the LA Fitness web site to cancel personal training, but after completing and submitting the form, the customer is told that he must print the form and mail it to their corporate office. Even then, if approved, it only means the contract isn't automatically renewed after the 12th month, and that a personal visit to the sales person is required before the contract "buyout" is approved. In my enthusiasm to begin working out again, I violated my own rule of always reading the fine print before I sign. That way my fault. But the sales tactics used by LA Fitness certainly did not seem honest to me, and at the least bordered on something worse. Googling LA Fitness Scam yielded results from other people across the country reporting the same sales tactics. Aside from the experience with personal training, I also cancelled my gym membership. The facilities were unsanitary, even by "gym" standards. Pools of water were allowed to stand in the lobby entrance as melting snow was not cleaned up. This happened regularly (not just one time). There were several occasions when all paper towel dispensers throughout the facility were empty, and hand sanitizer dispensers were also frequently empty, which made cleaning the equipment impossible. During flu season, this was unacceptable. On a final note related to the gym experience, I watched as police officers arrested and removed several people from the facility, and witnessed a couple of individuals running out the back emergency exit. I don't know what happened and won't speculate, but it raised safety concerns for me since I frequently walked through a dark parking lot after finishing my work out. A quick google search revealed other instances of criminal activity in various locations. Perhaps this is common with gyms and not specific to this LA Fitness facility, but it did raise safety concerns.

Gym looks old. equipments are not so clean.. and customer service is bad. They promise one thing while joining and when asked for something they say thats available for upgrade. All they care is for you to join the gym. After that when you go ask something , they wont give a proper response. May be not all the receptionists/advisors are like that but for me i met the people who work most of the time and got bad response/experience from them.

I use the LA Fitness in Glendale on a regular basis to stay fit and healthy. I use the cardio machines (elipticals, treadmills and bikes), swim laps and also do some classes (Body Works, Mat Pilates, Zumba). The instuctors are all very good, some better than others. I do try and go at non busy times (before 4pm) to use the cardio machines without waiting. The pool is usually not too crowded where you have to share a lane with another swimmer. For the price, I think this gym is worth it.

I signed up for membership and personal training. Initially they tried to sell a one year package that would have cost $1600. I rejected that initially offer and signed up for 12 personal training sessions. The sessions are okay not quite what I expected. So I am glad I only signed up for 12 sessions. Also, they tend to sign you up without allowing you to read the contract. Everything is for a year with automatic renewals. So when I am almost done with my training, I need to cancel the contract.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, DO NOT ENROLL YOURSELF HERE Worst Sales Manager ; Michael S. how can you be a Manager Mike? Basically he told me yesterday May 9th, 2012 'I do not want unhappy clients here" if you do not like LA FITNESS do not come back, leave the gym" this is so ridiculous Mike, you were very happy with me when you enroll me on May 16th, 2011 right? then I went with you to complain and you call me liar... so I left the gym, I closed my membership I needed to pay for that $560 usd , Be careful with the sales people in LA FITNESS. Horrible Kids Club, more that 20 kids with just 2 girls "looking after them" while they use their iPhone or read a book.Staff here do not care about their clients, we are just a number.
Description of Work: I started in La Fitness, because is the closest gym from our home in Zionsville.

I dropped my membership after 3 months because I was so disappointed in the facilities. They asked me to come in and do a personal assessment which ended up being a sales pitch for their personal trainers. I've always considered myself to be in decent shape as I have an average height and weight for my age. However, the personal trainer I dealt with basically told me that I was fat as a way to convince me to hire him as my trainer. I'm not easily offendable, but this really bothered me. I found the gym staff to be rather unhelpful and unfriendly. They never paid any attention to you and were often talking to their co-workers while you were trying to check in at the front desk. While I do not have children, I never needed to use those services. However, if I did, I don't think I would trust them to watch my children. Every time I walked past, the person who was supervising the children was spending more time playing on their cell phone than watching the children. Lastly, I never saw anyone wipe down the machines. At my old gym, in Nashville, TN, each piece of equipment had a bottle of disinfectant and a towel to wipe it down when you were done. I never saw anything like this at the gym, and if there was, I never saw anyone use it. The facility was nice, as it should be, since it is new. However, it wasn't enough to keep me there.
Description of Work: After moving to Indianapolis, I decided to begin looking for a gym. I ended up at LA Fitness in Carmel as it was the closest gym facility to my home. They were also running a membership special and the price was very reasonable. I attended several of their fitness classes in addition to using their fitness equipment.

The diversity of equipment is what stands out to me. They have different courts and different pools, which makes a good workout.
