Horizon Bank

I had my original mortgage and a refinance with them. First off, their estimate of cash to close is a total lie. Two days before my first closing, they informed me that I would need to come up with $2300 additional dollars than they had estimated. Oh by the way we need another $2300 dollars? They then suckered me into referring a friend by promising me $200. My friend told them several times i referred him. When I asked where the money is, they conveniently hadn't heard anything about the referral and refused to give me the referral money. I have now changed lenders because I tried to lock in 2.625 on a refinance. They said ok. The next day I called to follow up and they said it was too late in the day that I called and that they could only lock me in a the new rate of 3.125. That would have cost me over $15000 had I not changed lenders. Go to First Merchants. Don't waste your time on these liars. I'm talking about you Mark Ritzi and Meghan Nelson! Negative five stars if possible!!!

At first I was favorably impressed with the efficient and courteous service and response from the mortgage representative. This was a very straightforward transaction and I expected a quick and easy loan process. I was quickly preapproved for the mortgage in the amount I needed. I bid on the property and my offer was accepted on the basis of the preapproval provided by Horizon Bank. From then on, my experience with Horizon was fraught with errors on their part. I was contacted and told that the bank could not honor their preapproval and could only grant me a mortgage for 60% of the amount I needed. I was given inaccurate information about paperwork necessary to complete my application and several critical pieces of information were not supplied to me in a timely manner causing multiple setbacks and much stress on my part. We finally closed on the property on March 31...almost three full months after my initial application.My husband and I have purchased multiple properties over the years and have never experienced such incompetence. I was most disappointed and would certainly not recommend them for a mortgage.

Everything went great! Our Realtor Davina, recommended Michael to us and I'm so glad we went with him. Michael was awesome and helped us every step of the process and got the paperwork done in a little less than a month to get our loan done for closing. He was also able to help me when I couldn't get logged in to the website to manage our loan. We didn't have the correct phone number in the system and he changed it for us. We didn't know what our new number was going to be until a couple of weeks after we moved. I would highly recommend Michael at Horizon Bank.

Working with Kim was so easy. She was very flexible and easy to communicate with as it is easier for me to email during the day vs talk on the phone. She even met with me at my office to go over the financing options which also made things much easier for me. There were a few bumps at the end due to my buyers closing issues, and Kim went above and beyond to ensure that my closing would still go smoothly. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a mortgage.

Cathy Strawn was fantastic throughout the entire loan process. She took time to explain everything to us and she was very thorough. We thought getting a home loan for our first house would be a very daunting experience, but it all went smoothly. It was overall a great experience and we would highly recommend her.

Cathy was the contact from start to finish and continues to help with questions. This was my first home, so I wanted to use someone with a high rating on Angie's List. She did not disappoint. It was named 1st Mortgage of Indiana when I first called, so the update to Horizon must have happened within the past couple of weeks. To summarize the experience as succinctly as possible...Cathy is ON TOP OF IT. Customer service, professionalism, responsiveness, knowledge, flexibility, etc. are all top notch. She was an excellent resource throughout the process which was a big help. I'll be using them again in the future.

This is our second refinance with Cathy at First Mortgage. As great as the first experience was, this was better. She was friendly, quick to respond, and professional the whole time.

Michael Strawn was excellent. We purchased the house in early December 2013 with a closing date ASAP. He worked with us throughout the holiday (even calling us from Florida during his vacation) to assure that we were able to close the first week in January. They were prompt, accurate and provided great service. Feedback was always timely and efficient. We have moved many times and this was one of the smoothest moves because of their services.

We worked with Michael Strawn. He was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. My husband and I originally had an FHA loan. I was reluctant to attempt to refinance into a conventional mortgage because I was worried our property values had gone down and we don't have enough equity to close the transaction (our subdivision is still being developed, and there are plenty of other homes sold at a loss in the area). Kim was amazing from start to finish on the purchase of our new home! She was organized and responsive and would even oftentimes prompt me for something (I tend to get overwhelmingly busy between work and the toddler at home and things fall off my radar!) without being pestering but ensuring things got done so as to not cause any sort of unnecessary delay. As we expected, financing a home with a VA loan has additional hurdles to jump, and of course it was not all smooth sailing. Our VA appraisal came in shockingly low and everyone involved in the transaction thought the appraised value grossly unfair. Kim went above and beyond to help compile all the documentation for the appeal process to the VA, and low and behold, they reassessed the value once all arguments and comparables were given. This was not an easy process, however, and it cut us dangerously close to the closing date. As a result, our date had to be pushed back a few times and Kim went (once again!) above and beyond to make sure everyone was informed of the next steps and what was needed from all parties. She worked closely with our Realtor to make sure everyone was on the same page and attended the closing on our house despite it being after hours and not the original date. I have recommended her to everyone I know who is in the home buying process, including my mom. Having a dad who was a mortgage broker for 20 years, I know a bit more than the average consumer about mortgage products and the process and Kim was beyond amazing, honest, straightforward and hardworking!

Kim Hockaday was my Loan Originator with First Mortgage of IN. As a first time home buyer, she made the experience very easy for me to navigate. She answered all my questions and kept in constant communication with me through out the whole experience. She was also accomodating to my work schedule for our appointments by setting time and location near my work site. I am confident that through Kim's dedication during the process, I was able to obtain the best possible interest rate for my new home loan. Any time I had a question or needed clarification on an issue, she was prompt with her follow up. On the day of my closing, an issue came to light that had not presented before this day. (through no fault of Kim or First Mortgage of IN - totally on my end.) Kim and the staff at First Mortgage of IN attacked the issue effectively and I was able to close on time. I admit I was a basket case, but Kim kept me grounded and the issue was resolved. I am very thankful to have had such an awesome person such as Kim to guide me through this experience.

The overall refinance process went extremely smoothly. Michael sent us detailed information about what we would need to provide, as far as paperwork was concerned. We were able to close on the refi very quickly--less than a month from our initial contact about this refinance. We researched mortgage companies on Angie's List and noted First Mortgage of Indiana has a high rating as an Angie's List provider. We never hire or purchase from a provider unless they have the Angie's seal of approval. We contacted First Mortgage of Indiana and was directed to J. Michael Strawn. After meeting with Mr. Strawn on a couple of occasions and providing all of our necessary paperwork for refinancing of our mortgage, the whole process from start to finish took about two weeks. This was incredible because prior to our contacting Mr. Strawn, we had started this process with another company who dragged their feet so long (nearly 2 1/2 months) that we "lost" our locked-in rate. So, having been burned in that regard, we were hesitant to even go through the process again. However, we are so glad we did as First Mortgage made the process quick and easy. I would highly recommend First Mortgage of Indiana to anyone who is looking to refinance.

I used Michael Strawn from First Mortgage of Indiana for my very first home purchase back in 2001. I have since used him approximately 10 times since then on various home purchase and refinances on personal and investment properties over the years. I have used 4-5 other lenders over this time and in my opinion, Michael and this company deserves to be rated at the top of these lender rankings. Even though I have done so many transactions with him and know the process inside and out, he always insists on meeting in person to go over documents and make sure I completely understand everything. This is unheard of as it seems as if now a days everything is done via email or mail. A few of my other lenders I have never even met in person. He goes out of his way to show up to as many of these closings as possible which is also uncommon, but gives a very reassuring feeling. Michael is very knowledgeable and is up to speed on the daily changes that take place in the mortgage industry. Having a loan fall through is not something that anyone wants and Michael will not let this happen because of a recent rule change. I can only assume that the other employees at First Mortgage of Indiana are held to this same standard. I will definitely continue to use this company in the future.

The refinancing process with First Mortgage of Indiana and Michael Strawn was handled in a very quick and professional manner. The communication throughout the process was great! Michael was very accommodating and I can honestly say it was the best experience I have had in refinancing a mortgage. I cannot recommend them enough!!! Awesome rates, fees, and experience.

I engaged First Mortgage of Indiana along with another local mortgage broker, with the other company having a little bit of a head start in earning my business. Not sure why I didn't check Angie's List first, but I am so glad I did! From start to finish, First Mortgage of Indiana was on a totally different level than the other provider... it wasn't even close. I worked with Kim Hockaday, who was very responsive, answered my every question (and I asked a lot!), and did an outstanding job of helping me through the process and getting to the best option for my family. I was extremely satisified. Sadly, I won't ever need to refinance this mortgage again (2.75%!), but if I ever end up moving, I will be calling First Mortgage of Indiana before I call a realtor! Can't say enough about how much they impressed me compared to their competition.

Didn't tell me or listen to me about where the mortgage would be sold. Greentree was used whiic has many, many complaints. It doesn't even exist now. Then he sent me a very disturbing email after cancelling trying to scare me about my current mortgage and what can happen. Then he emailed me again offering to go to a different co (which I had asked for before I cancelled. He refused and then offered it at a higher interest rate. What a waste of time oney which I have not received back. This guy should be a used car salesman. Thanks Diana

Cathy is extremely thorough, detail-oriented and on top of her game. Navigating the mortgage industry can be a nightmare, but Cathy helped guide me through the process from the initial introduction, to pre-approval, and then through to closing. I was extremely confident at our closing with her by my side, which went through with a hitch.

Everything went very smoothly Cathy is very knowledgable and professional. She is organized, communicates clearly and makes what can be a complicated process very simple. I was able to use an Angie's List coupon, so that was a great savings. This is the second time I've used First Mortgage.
