He not only repaired the malfunction that I identified. He completely reconditioned the whole vacuum cleaner - belts, bag (including air freshener), and filters. He lubricated the wheels. He even buffed out scrapes and scratches on the plastic housing. The vacuum looks better than it has in years, and works like new. In on Monday, out on Wed pm, very fast service.
Description of Work: Repaired vacuum cleaner. On/off switch would not turn off. Power drive would not engage.

Took upright vac for repair--estimate was around $230--unit was ready on time. However, when I started the vac at home,noticed moisture in the cannister and smell of wet pet hair. Took the vac back- he apologized and kept unit another day to have technician clean out and unit thoroughly. Another trip to pick it up, they did give me a free filter since I was inconvenienced. The vac does run ok, but the odor remained for over 4 weeks. Not confident enough in the quality of work to use them again, especially in light of the price and inconvenience.

On 9/17/2013 I took my Miele vacuume cleaner in for repair (same place it was purchased and serviced for past 7 years). I was told by John Harding(manager) that it was the electronic panel, and to replace would be $400 to $500(for just the electronics). Asked if it was worth repairing and was told that since it was at the end of life, between electronics and if the engine goes (another $500), that was the cost of a new vacuum, he would probably get the new vacuum. John also stated that they were no longer selling Miele vacumes because they were no longer being manufactued as they had been in the past and they were an inferior product. Bought a new Riccar vacuum as recommended by John. Have since found out that my Miele vacuum panel replacement is really LESS THAN $200! AND perhaps it wasn't Best that decided to not carry Miele, but Best was dropped by Miele as an authorized dealer( John never mention that they were no longer authorized for Miele). Wonder why? When I tried to return the new Riccar (less that 24 hours after purchase, never used, still in box) I was told that ALL SALES ARE FINAL. When I asked to speak with the owner, I was told that, the owner (P S Thompson, aka Paul Thompson, aka Steve Thompson, aka PS Thompson Enterprises) was out of town, but it was pointless because he never returns calls or issues refunds. I asked to leave a message to call me, but I have not had a return call (and am not sure he even got the message). Dishonest way to sell vacuums and do business, to say the least! Would not do business with them again under any circumstances!

Took vacuum in for repair due to a sparking coming from the motor area of the canister. Told I would need to bring the sweeper head attachment in as well in order for them to provide an appropriate analysis. I made a second trip to the store the next day to deliver the attachment. Following the and quot;analysisand quot; I was told that the cost to repair the vacuum would exceed the cost of a new one. I was shocked since the Rainbow vacuum cost in excess of $1,000. I decided to bring the machine home and have my brother-in-law take a look at it. I love this vacuum and was not ready to replace the unit. Well, for an $11 part, purchased online, my vacuum is running like new. It was obvious that Best Vacuum had not even removed the cover of the unit based on the undisturbed dust and lack of finger print smudges. I understand that people can make diagnostic mistakes, but to not even take the cover off is despicable.

John was very helpful in giving advice about which vacuum to purchase for each space where we needed a vacuum. We have been very pleased with our purchases. Very surprised when reading the other reviews. We have used Best Vacuum for many years to service our vacuums and always felt like we got good, reasonably priced service. One time we were advised to not repair the vacuum. That is the one we eventually used as a trade-in.

I was dissatsfied with the service they provided me. I was told that the job would be done as a courtesy but then was told differently.

I was having trouble putting a sweeper belt on my sweeper so I took it to best vacuum to have them show me how to install it. I have used their services for thirty years and purchased this sweeper from them along with other sweepers over the years. They would not show me how to install the sweeper belt and said they would and quot;fixand quot; it if I would leave it with them and they would call me with an estimate the next day. So much for customer loyalty. I then took my sweeper to Vacuums and More in Castleton who showed me how to install the sweeper and did not charge me.
Description of Work: I did not use their service because of an unsatisfactory lack of customer service.

Got to Best Vacuum just a couple minutes before closing to purchase a window squeegy/cleaning tool. I told the gentleman what I was looking for and he immediately got it for me. I also purchased some floor cleaner - all total, my bill was just under $75. Trying to be considerate of their time and the fact that I did get there one minute before they closed, I hurried with my transaction so they could close for the day. When I got to the car, I realized the amount of my purhcase. Considering what I bought, I thought the charges seemed out of line and went back the next morning. For one squeegy/cleaning tool that screws on the end of a pole, they charged me $54.99, which I thought must have been an error, but it wasn't! Besides the fact that it was overpriced, it was also too large for the area that I was working in so I tried to return it while I was there, reciept in hand, merchandise in the exact condition it was in when purchased, only for the Owner to tell me that ALL SALES ARE FINAL - IT'S ON THE RECEIPT - DIDN'T YOU SIGN YOUR CHARGE SLIP??? I must admit, I don't make it a practice to read my receipts looking for and quot;gotchasand quot;. If that is their policy, I felt they should have pointed that out at the time of pruchase. I also did not see anything sitting on the counter indicating that poicy. My mistake in all of this was not asking the price before hand and trying to be considerate of the fact they were getting ready to close. The Owner was accurate in his statement that ALL SALES ARE FINAL beause that's the final sale he will make to me. Given their policy, I'm certainly glad that I didn't purchase a much more expensive item. What if I had purchased sweeper and for whatever reason there was a mechanical problem - I would have been out ALOT of money because and quot;all sales are finaland quot; Had the Owner handled this differently, I would not have hesitated to continue to do business with him.

After they gave us this quote, we decided to look into buying a new vacuum cleaner. We found a dealer in Chicago (ironically their name was Best Vacuum but not affiliated with the one in Carmel), who seemed knowledgeable and we asked a bunch of questions about different Miele brands of vacuums. Meanwhile we told him about our current vacuum cleaner. He was SHOCKED at the quote. He thought there was a chance we were on a 7 year warranty so suggested we look up a local authorized dealer to see if we could get our vacuum fixed. When we went on Miele's website we found that Best! Vacuum in Carmel isn't even listed as an authorized dealer but Ace Vacuum on 106th/Michigan Rd was. We called and the person we spoke with at Ace said he was ALSO shocked at Best! Vacuum's quote. He asked that we bring it in. After looking at our vacuum he said WITH parts, labor AND service he could get it fixed for $200!!!! I will never bring another vacuum cleaner to Best! again. They also tend to be rude. I don't think they're even a dealer for Miele anymore. Could be because Miele doesn't like the way THEY do business. On a side note, they were bad-mouthing Miele saying that their vacuums aren't any good anymore (could it be because they know they're not an authorized dealer????). I'm definitely telling my friends and family NOT to go to Best! Vacuum for any kind of sales and/or service. I don't know how they are even in business still! I believe they were an authoized dealer in the past for Miele -- not anymore.
Description of Work: I brought my canister Miele in to get serviced. My vacuum cleaner did not come on when I turrned the power switch on. This was a $1,000+ Miele vacuum that I purchased 5 years ago. They told me they would check it out and give me a call the next day. They did call me back to tell me that the electronic unit (the circuit board of my vacuum cleaner) was shot and it would cost $450.08 to have it repaired!!!

we had our miele sweeper repaired by BEST! a couple of years ago. what would seem to be a simple repair of the vacuum cord and reel in mechanism cost $125. it was done over a week or so. when we picked it up, the cord was thicker and not as willing to reel back into the sweeper canister as the original cord (before it broke). the owner said that it would loosen up over time. two-three years later it hasn't. the cord replacement, in hindsight, was not a miele replacement cord. it was another brand cord or a generic cord. how do we now know this? well, this replacement cord broke again. two-three years after BEST! replaced it. this time it was the actual plug prongs that broke off. the prongs on the replacement cord were not nearly as thick guage as the original cord so I am not suprised that they broke in such a short period of time. we called to meile approved service repair centers. BEST! being one of them, since they repaired this cord the first time with the now broken replacement cord. I left name, number and nature of the problem. they never called back. the other shop called, offered a quote and ended up fixing the cord for us. they were very pleasant and confirmed that BEST! did not use a miele replacement cord 2-3 years ago when they replaced it. the were not surprised since they have noticed this kind of shoddy repair work done by BEST! over the past few years by former BEST! customers as myself. well, i won't tell you where i went for this most recent professional sweeper repair ... it wasn't cheap either but at least i know that i got genuine miele parts for the replacement cord this time. and who knows, it might last as long as the original miele cord did, about 6 years, before I have to have it replaced again but it sure won't be by BEST! in carmel, in. my advice, find a more reputable sweeper repair shop. one that will call you back and admit that they performed subpar repair work and stand behind their shoddy work. Go Elsewhere!

I had been a loyal, referring customer for 13 years. I had been happy with their service up until the last several years. There was never really anything that was definitely "wrong", I just started feeling pressured by the owner whenever I went in (to buy upgraded parts, etc.). If I went in for a replacement upholstery brush, he told me why the one that came with my vaccuum (an expensive Riccar) was "crap". He'd go into an entire sales pitch on a better one that cost 10 x as much. When I insisted that I just wanted a duplicate of the original, he was put out. Earlier this summer, I took in my 12-year old Riccar for repair and he insisted that it would be stupid to spend the money to repair it. I ended up going home with a new vaccuum. All in all, I became very uncomfortable going into the shop, each time hoping that a different salesman would be in. I just didn't trust what he would tell me. It felt ungenuine and designed to get me to spend more. This last time, after leaving my relative's vaccuum for estimate, and not having heard back for 3 days, I called to find out what they thought was needed to repair the issue. He insisted that he'd called me each of the 2 prior days and left messages. I have no missed calls on my phone and no voicemails from anyone at Best Vaccuum. When I told him this, he became aggressive and insisted on hanging up and dialing me back to prove that he knew how to call me. I tried to stop him and just find out what the estimate was, but he was agitated, talking over me, and hung up on me while I was asking. Then he waited 5-10 minutes before calling me back. Even though I know nothing about vaccuum parts or what they cost, $116.00 seemed high for a new switch. When I said as much, he became even more aggressive. I told him I'd have to find another company to work with and he told me to come in and pick up the vaccuum. He was not sorry at all that he was losing a long-term customer. Since then, I've read the Angie's List reports on them and now know that I'm not the only one who's had similar experiences with this particular business owner. I have no idea how they survive in business. Out of the 44 existing reports (before this one), 17 are Cs, Ds, or Fs. That's close to 40%! Chris Cleary of Cleary Vaccuum on 96th St. in Fishers did my repair while I waited - as I said before - for $3. What a dramatic difference!
Description of Work: THIS time, I needed a new micro-switch for a relative's vaccuum. They quoted $116.00. Bottom line is that I took it elsewhere and had it done for $3.

The estimate for repair was $108.00. When I told them that I had purchaed it from them in August, the owner took care of me even though the warranty was only for thirty days. They repaired a belt, charged me $28.00 and the vacuum is running great again.

They just offered me a quote to replace parts, but never really dealt with the problem. They quoted me $49.00 just to diagnose the problem, which seems to go against the free estimate offer that they advertise. It took them two days to look at it, even though they didn't actually run it or perform any diagnostics. While I was in the stoor, I overhead the employee trying to hard-sell a specific vacuum brand that they carry, and he attempted the same thing with me over the phone. I feel that they bait-and-switch policies.

The team was very professional from start to finish. They didn't seem thrilled that the vacuum was still under warranty, but they did the job in the time they stated and the vacuum worked great when they completed the work.

It wasn't a pleasant experience. I appreciated the gentleman telling me my old vacuum (an 8 year old Eureka bagless) wasn't worth fixing. He then began to show me a Riccar that went for between $500-$600. I told him I just couldn't justify spending that much on a vacuum, I was looking more in the $200-$300 dollar range. He basically scoffed at this and told me I might as well go to Wal-Mart and get a cheap vacuum until I was ready to invest in an adequate product. He wouldn't even show me the Riccar in that price range which was in the window. I finally had enough and on the way out he verbally berated me by saying, "That's why we've been in business for 35 years!" I will never shop at this store again, not even for bags and supplies.
Description of Work: Went to see if old vacuum was salvageable, look at a new model if needed.

When I called them to ask what was wrong with the machine they said the idler pulley was broken. They said that would have to be replaced, in addition to that they would have to replace the brush, all the belts and filters or they wouldn't do the repair. I have inspected the brush and know it's alright, and I just replaced the belts, and I have filters at the house. I feel that this was an unnecessary inflation of repair cost. They should just replace the part that I am requesting them to replace.
Description of Work: The vacuum started emitting a burning odor, so we turned it off. Took it to Best to have them give us an estimate for repair. They told us the repair would cost between $130-$150.

THIS IS A SMALL SHOP DEDICATED TO VACUUM SALES, VACUUM SERVICE, AND CLEANING SUPPLIES. I TOOK AN OLDER HOOVER IN FOR SERVICE AS IT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WITHIN ONE DAY I WAS CALLED AND GIVEN THE BAD NEWS THAT THE VACUUM COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. WHEN I PICKED IT UP, THEY SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM AND EXPLAINED WHY THEY COULDN'T FIX IT. NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO SELL A REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME. AFTER DISCUSSING THIS WITH MY WIFE SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND CHECKING CONSUMER REPORTS, WE DECIDED TO SHOP FOR A NEW VACUUM CLEANER. I RETURNED TO BEST VACUUM AND THEY HAD WHAT I WANTED. THE PRICE WAS A LITTLE HIGHER THEN THE AVERAGE, BUT IT CAME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WITH A 5 YEAR WARRANTY. MY EXPERIENCE HERE WAS PROFESSIONAL IN ALL RESPECTS.

I WENT TO A SPECIALTY STORE TO SUPPORT MY LOCAL MERCHANTS, EXPECTING TO FIND MORE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE. INSTEAD, I WAS MISINFORMED (OR MISLED) ABOUT THE PRODUCT BY AN EMPLOYEE, AND GIVEN A HARD TIME FOR RETURNING IT BY THE OWNER. THEY WERE UNABLE, OR UNWILLING, TO FIND ME A VACUUM FOR A REASONABLE PRICE! I FOUND ANOTHER VACUUM (ELSEWHERE OF COURSE) THAT DOES A FINE JOB FOR LESS THAN $300 (UPHOLSTERY CLEANER INCLUDED). IT WAS STRESSFUL DEALING WITH THEM, AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO STAND UP TO SOMEONE. I WON'T GO BACK, AND I'M SAD TO THINK OF PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY THIS BUSINESS.

UNBELIEVABLY, HE THEN TRIED TO SELL ME A $1,400 VACUUM, INSISTING THAT IT WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WOULD DO WHAT I WANTED.
