We've been using Steve's company for about two years, and we'd highly recommend his services.  He and his crew did an excellent job with the system's installation, they provided very helpful information on how to keep the air circulating efficiently, and the price seemed very fair considering the scope and difficulty of the work.

I have used this company for more than 20 years and would recommend them without hesitation for any size residential job from maintenance to installation.  For many years they maintained our home's aging heating and air units with minimal expense and sage advice along the way. When we had problems, Borter's responded quickly and arrived at their stated time.  A few years ago we got new, energy efficient heating and cooling units. We requested bids from a few companies, but stayed with Borters. Their pricing was competitive. But, just as important, we knew we could depend upon them for first class service. They have never disappointed us. They are knowledgable, professional, efficient, and trustworthy.

Ny, the technician, was fantastic.  He did a great job of diagnosing exactly what was wrong and fixing only the problem areas.  The price for the service was reasonable and I will definitely use Borter again.  Ny is a great representative for the company.

The technician arrived on time, was very courteous. He diagnosed the issue (low Freon) and corrected it satisfactorily.

I made an appointment for later this week because our A/C was not blowing cold air.  Today, I got a call that there was an appointment available right away and since I was also available, I took it.  The technician arrived about 20 minutes later and was very polite and very professional.  He took a look at the unit, assessed the problem, showed me pictures he took of the issues in the unit and fixed it pretty quickly.  We know that a new A/C unit is in our near future, but I appreciated that he wanted to fix the problem rather than talk me into replacing it.  My only concern is that the write up says "recommend replacing contactor due to rusty terminals, customer declined".  I know he showed me a picture of the rusty part, but I don't remember declining that anything be repaired - I thought that's what he was doing.  Regardless, the unit seems to be working.  I guess I will call them back to figure out what that was about.  In the end, I thought the job was well done.

First, I have to say a huge thank you to Kevin, Ken and Chuck for their hard work and professionalism. I couldn't be happier. I have been a customer of Borter's for years so I went into this process knowing that I would receive honest feedback, people who were punctual and professional, and receive quality work. My only regret is that I didn't upgrade my furnace sooner. Seriously! This is so much better my other one and I can tell the difference in the way that it runs. My system took three full days of service work.
I really valued the team's expertise. Their years of training were evidenced by the quality of work that they provided. I have such respect for these men and what they do. They installed a beautiful, new system complete with proper support systems (i.e. the electrical system upgrade along with the new venting for the water heater) in addition to what all this type of work entails. They also took care to wear booties in the house, tarp the entry and exit to the garage, and they carefully placed the things in the basement that were in the way of where they were working, safely aside. My basement looks better than before they arrived ...and this is in addition to the great look of the new furnace system. Also, the way that they installed the piece by which I can replace the filter is now facing the lit area of the basement which means that changing the filter won't be as challenging as it used to be.
If you are in the position that I was in, with an old furnace which needs work or needs replacing, please call these guys. They will take the time to see what is going on, locate the problems and give you the information that you need to make an informed decision be it just for servicing needs or if need be replacement. Their prices are fair and you will not regret the level of service that they can provide.

When the furnace guy shows up at 8:30 at night on the coldest night of year, I guess they can charge whatever they want. Still, I just paid $243 for someone to open my furnace, remove the flame sensor, give it a rigorous sanding (yes, with sandpaper), replace sensor and close my furnace. Cha-ching. $243 big ones outta my pocket for about 10 minutes of work. Oh well, I now have a furnace that seems to be working correctly, which is pretty great when it's -11 outside. I did appreciate the friendliness of the technician and that they got to my house about an hour and a half after I called.

First furnace service in 2000 was great. Very smart guy, an did a great job. This was a guy that could not only fix a broken furnace, but could also resolve tricky airflow problems with cold/warm rooms, etc. Very sharp.
Second was in 1/2011 to replace a failed inducer in one of our furnaces. Work was done efficiently and without issue. A little pricey, but those inducers are ridiculously expensive. Also, I suspect they only use factory OEM parts.
Now, in 12/2013, the same inducer failed again. I had resigned myself to digging one up on the internet and doing it myself, because I didn't want the expense again. But I gave them a call just to check. Without any prying, Gary offered to replace it again for half price. Almost 2 years old. Normal warranty is one year, at MOST. He didn't have to do that.
In my experience, you're in good hands with this company.

Starting with the receptionist/office manager, the Borter team is helpful and generous with their suggestions and advice. For example, what I thought was a furnace problem turned out to be an issue with the batteries in the thermostat. They are detailed in their explanations and demonstrations of filter installation and changes, when to change batteries on thermostats and how to make the home cleaner and the furnace & A/C run better & longer.
The appointment windows are in 2-hour time increments and they have never been late. In fact, often they appear right at the beginning of the time window or are early (if you get the first appointment of the day). Their crew is uniformed and drive clearly labeled trucks and are very respectful of the home they're servicing. Advice tends toward the minimally disruptive, articulate and professional.
I trust my systems only to Borter and to no one else.

Guys were polite, clean, friendly and efficient.  They walked me through the whole system and how it was designed to work. Project took a little longer than anticipated (2 days) but it was a rather complicated reconfiguration of the existing ductwork. No complaints whatsoever.

I called and said I wanted New Baseboard heating put in  my basement.  The Tech came out and said my current baseboards were ok  and didn't need to be replaced (they only worked 1/2 the time so I wanted them replaced).  Then charged me 89.00 of which he said that if I decided to replace my baseboards they would apply it as a credit to my bill.  I said I wanted new ones and Steve the owner came out to measure for an estimate which I never got.  If you have 90.00 you want to waste call these people otherwise forget them

I regret to say if you have boiler heat, DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY. They are clueless when it comes to boiler heating. The technician came out to check the pump that was replaced and it was working perfectly, not the problem for no heat in the master. They bled the system and HOPED that would work. They sent out an estimator to give us an estimate on the full repair. He asked me if I knew where the manifold pipes were so he could check the pressure in the pipes. Well, I have no clue what he is talking about and he never found them either. We were told that the regulator was unmovable and needed to be replaced. We waited for the estimate.
In the meantime, the master temperature got to be 52 degrees, beautiful for a fall day, miserable to take a shower.
We had another company come in and well they also bled the system, it was "full" of air. They say we need a new diaphragm tank because this one in is undersized. The cherry on the cake though is the pump that they replaced that cost $480 with labor, was not powerful enough. There are 2 pumps for the boiler on the pipes for the master. They are mismatched. The one they replaced is not powerful enough to move the water from it's location.  Maybe they replaced the wrong pump.
I am certain that these folks took care of this system for a long time before we moved in, in Dec. 2011. We were told that if the pump didn't work to warm up the room, the reason it was so cold in the master was because of the carpet padding, which didn't make sense because the other bedrooms were warm. The other company was able to put a band-aid on to get it to work better. Happy to say the room temperature has increased to almost 60 degrees since he left 3 hours ago. He was also able to crank the mixing valve which was considered immovable by Borters. The estimate from Borters came back with 3 separate prices and no guarantee that the work would fix the problem. We won't be calling them back.
Actually, I wouldn't use them for any job. We moved in under extraordinary circumstances, when they initially came to fix the pump all they could say was they were not liable. We were actually moving in before we had possession of the house and they were nice enough to come fix the pump. They could have advised us to replace the HVAC system in the crawlspace or to have the boiler cleaned as it was obviously burning yellow, while they were here. I thought it strange they were so worried about there liability. The brand new sticker was on the boiler, which we found should have a blue flame, not yellow to be safe. Who knew? We do now. I had spoke to the owner that said that there were issues with the boiler, which I had been informed of by another company. He said he would return the cost of the last visit and as always talk is cheap. No check, never really believed they would refund the money.

I requested three quotes from different vendors before choosing Borter to install our AC. Steve and his son gave me an honest evaluation of our system, telling me repair as well as replacement costs. They were the only company that took seriously my concerns about cooling our upper floor and made suggestions to help us improve air flow. They were incredibly patient with my questions. They offered me several options of AC units, telling me why each one had a particular benefit to me. While not the cheapest, they were the most knowledgeable and worked hard to install our AC before the 100 degree temps in the forecast. They corrected many issues in our system (humidifier on the furnace and air scrubber) that weren't in the initial quote. I would recommend them to anyone for their high level of integrity and service.

First of all, the only reason we had started using this company was because the previous owner used them, and Borter had stickers all over the water heater and furnace.  We should immediately have been cautious when the technician, Joe, stated that "I am here several times a year; there is always something breaking down here."  Our previous experience with homes, all of them have been old homes, is that if you have a good heating and A/C company and you have regular maintenance, you should have have things "breaking down" all of the time.  Nevertheless, just to make things simpler, thinking that the technician, Joe, knew the house, we decided to try working with them.  On these two particular visits, Joe came out and stated that two parts were broken in our boiler.  It would cost $900 to repair them, but he said a new boiler would be $10,000.  He repaired them, and he said that the issue with hot water should be fixed "for years".  The following week, we were again running out of hot water very quickly.  I called in and asked if he could come out to check if the parts he installed were still working, and I asked whether that would be an additional fee.  The woman stated that if it was just to check the parts, it would not be an additional fee.  I did not ask him to do anything else in the house.  He was only at the house for less than 5 min; he said the parts were working, and he recommended that we have the entire heating and A/C systems in the house reworked.  He said they would be "happy to provide an estimate".  Then, I received a bill in the mail for this visit, another $100.  I inquired about this bill, stating that I was told it would not be an additional charge because it involved checking on a previous issue.

While I understand times are tough, a company should not be trying to nickle and dime its customers, first claiming a visit would not be charged, and then trying to collect payment.  Also, there is clearly something wrong with this company.  Even after we paid $900 for repair, our hot water is still running out very quickly.  if the company has been maintaining a house for years, but still needs to come out "several times a year" to repair items, one would wonder if there is something unethical going on.  We will not be using this company any further, and would advise strongly that any Angies' List members proceed with extreme caution if they are to work with this company.

"We are sorry that you are displeased with our services. We have made the effort to recommend modifications to the existing system for a number of years to eliminate the continuing issues present due to the existing configuration. We would gladly provide an updated estimate for the recommended work that needs to be completed for the system to operate the way that it should."

Air conditioner tune up went well.  Coolant pressure was high, but it is an old air conditioner.  Furnace tune up went well.  Technician found a bat in the fan which was probably in there for at least 5 yrs.  It started to make a noise that long ago and other techs said it was just out of balance.  They actually took the time to remove the fan to find out the cause.

This is my first home, so i have no point of reference.  having said that, i think it all went very well, Ny, i believe was the Tech name was very courteous and clean.  he took time to explain how the filter should be replaced and at what interval.  how the duct baffles? should be set.  He made recommendations on how to make the temperature in the house more consistent.  i was very pleased
