The technician arrived on time, was very courteous. He diagnosed the issue (low Freon) and corrected it satisfactorily.
I really valued the team's expertise. Their years of training were evidenced by the quality of work that they provided. I have such respect for these men and what they do. They installed a beautiful, new system complete with proper support systems (i.e. the electrical system upgrade along with the new venting for the water heater) in addition to what all this type of work entails. They also took care to wear booties in the house, tarp the entry and exit to the garage, and they carefully placed the things in the basement that were in the way of where they were working, safely aside. My basement looks better than before they arrived ...and this is in addition to the great look of the new furnace system. Also, the way that they installed the piece by which I can replace the filter is now facing the lit area of the basement which means that changing the filter won't be as challenging as it used to be.
If you are in the position that I was in, with an old furnace which needs work or needs replacing, please call these guys. They will take the time to see what is going on, locate the problems and give you the information that you need to make an informed decision be it just for servicing needs or if need be replacement. Their prices are fair and you will not regret the level of service that they can provide.
Second was in 1/2011 to replace a failed inducer in one of our furnaces. Work was done efficiently and without issue. A little pricey, but those inducers are ridiculously expensive. Also, I suspect they only use factory OEM parts.
Now, in 12/2013, the same inducer failed again. I had resigned myself to digging one up on the internet and doing it myself, because I didn't want the expense again. But I gave them a call just to check. Without any prying, Gary offered to replace it again for half price. Almost 2 years old. Normal warranty is one year, at MOST. He didn't have to do that.
In my experience, you're in good hands with this company.
The appointment windows are in 2-hour time increments and they have never been late. In fact, often they appear right at the beginning of the time window or are early (if you get the first appointment of the day). Their crew is uniformed and drive clearly labeled trucks and are very respectful of the home they're servicing. Advice tends toward the minimally disruptive, articulate and professional.
I trust my systems only to Borter and to no one else.
In the meantime, the master temperature got to be 52 degrees, beautiful for a fall day, miserable to take a shower.
We had another company come in and well they also bled the system, it was "full" of air. They say we need a new diaphragm tank because this one in is undersized. The cherry on the cake though is the pump that they replaced that cost $480 with labor, was not powerful enough. There are 2 pumps for the boiler on the pipes for the master. They are mismatched. The one they replaced is not powerful enough to move the water from it's location. Maybe they replaced the wrong pump.
I am certain that these folks took care of this system for a long time before we moved in, in Dec. 2011. We were told that if the pump didn't work to warm up the room, the reason it was so cold in the master was because of the carpet padding, which didn't make sense because the other bedrooms were warm. The other company was able to put a band-aid on to get it to work better. Happy to say the room temperature has increased to almost 60 degrees since he left 3 hours ago. He was also able to crank the mixing valve which was considered immovable by Borters. The estimate from Borters came back with 3 separate prices and no guarantee that the work would fix the problem. We won't be calling them back.
Actually, I wouldn't use them for any job. We moved in under extraordinary circumstances, when they initially came to fix the pump all they could say was they were not liable. We were actually moving in before we had possession of the house and they were nice enough to come fix the pump. They could have advised us to replace the HVAC system in the crawlspace or to have the boiler cleaned as it was obviously burning yellow, while they were here. I thought it strange they were so worried about there liability. The brand new sticker was on the boiler, which we found should have a blue flame, not yellow to be safe. Who knew? We do now. I had spoke to the owner that said that there were issues with the boiler, which I had been informed of by another company. He said he would return the cost of the last visit and as always talk is cheap. No check, never really believed they would refund the money.
"Thank you for the "A" and for your continued patronage. We are honored to be your HVAC service company of choice and look forward to servicing your HVAC needs!"
While I understand times are tough, a company should not be trying to nickle and dime its customers, first claiming a visit would not be charged, and then trying to collect payment. Also, there is clearly something wrong with this company. Even after we paid $900 for repair, our hot water is still running out very quickly. if the company has been maintaining a house for years, but still needs to come out "several times a year" to repair items, one would wonder if there is something unethical going on. We will not be using this company any further, and would advise strongly that any Angies' List members proceed with extreme caution if they are to work with this company.
"We are sorry that you are displeased with our services. We have made the effort to recommend modifications to the existing system for a number of years to eliminate the continuing issues present due to the existing configuration. We would gladly provide an updated estimate for the recommended work that needs to be completed for the system to operate the way that it should."
