It was wonderful working with Lake Shore Environmental Solutions, Inc. to have the asbestos removed.  It had become very friable and was a serious hazard, made even more of an issue now that I was using the area as a work shop.  Scott the owner came to view the area and develop a cost immediately following my call and gave me a very thorough explanation of all the work to be performed.  It was nice to understand what would be done and how thorough (and safe) the process was.  Scott and his team arrived right on time as planned and got to work immediately.  They finished up with air testing the next day and I was amazed at how great everything looked.  The remediated pipes were clean, in fact, the whole space was cleaner than when they arrived.  The testing showed that they had done a great job and my basement was now safe for use. One day later I had the results of the testing, plus the copy of the paid invoice.
Again, I want to thank Scott and his team for the thorough and professional work they did.

We were extremely satisfied by the work performed by Scott and his team! Scott was thorough and helped us understand the entire process from the start (since we've never been through this before). He followed up exactly when promised with results and proposals. Both the testing and work were done within a couple weeks of our initial contact with Scott - very quickly! Of course, no one wants the unexpected surprise of finding out they have asbestos and the associated cost, so were disappointed to have to shell out another $5000 for this... but  in the end it is well worth the $ to know our floors are now asbestos free and the air is safe for our family. We'd definitely recommend Lake Shore Environmental Solutions to anyone with asbestos-related concerns. Thank you Scott & team!!

Services were very timely since that house is under sale contract and needed to be ready.   Allowed the sellers to offer a house that was in proper shape for new inhabitants.   Scott was very patient and met twice with me and later the outgoing owners.  He was on schedule and budget.   I would recommend him to anyone dealing with this very difficult problem left from prior generations.  A good company to start getting back on the right path with

LSE scheduled and completed the work when promised. They estimated a 1 to 1.5 days, but were finished by 4:00 pm the first day. Their people showed up on time, and even shoveled the snow from our front and back walks.  Cleanup was excellent and the permit and inspection processes were handled very well.
Their price was higher than our other bid, but LSE discovered additional asbestos that the other contractor overlooked.

Lake Shore Environmental did a terrific job with an asbestos clean up project in my basement.  We were in the middle of a basement renovation and just before a holiday weekend we discovered asbestos pipe wrap that had been concealed behind a dry wall ceiling.  Knowing that we were desperate to use our wash machine over the weekend and to resume the project ASAP, Lake Shore came out to do the work just before the weekend began, were quick, spotless and professional in the way they proceeded, and --  after the testing company gave the all-clear -- they came out on the Saturday morning of a long weekend to break down the containment area so that we could use the basement for laundry.  We so much appreciated their sensitivity to the needs of our family.

We purchased a "fixer upper" home knowing about the asbestos issues. Prior to moving in, I had several contractors inspect the house and bid on the work. All of the estimates were relatively close, so we made the decision to work with Scott and his team at Lake Shore based on comfort level. They're a smaller company that focuses on residential homes and we just felt like Scott would be the best person for the job. He did not disappoint. He was very easy to work with and it took his team of four a little more than three days to complete the remediation and pass the air quality test. They were very clean and left the house in great condition when they were finished.

Had three companies out for estimates. They were the only ones that also did re-insulation; also they were the most knowledgeable about asbestos removal and explained the process clearly. Gave a written estimate with separate amounts for removal and re-insulation, noted what was needed on our part (water, electricity, and two open basement windows), and arrived on time. Once here we discovered some steam pipes that had no insulation and an additional crawl space that the uninsulated pipes went into. They broke that out into a separate price for the re-insulation. Their removal required them to go into several large crawl spaces with lots of pipes to have the asbestos removed and re-insulate. Before re-insulating the steam pipes, they had a professional air quality measurement taken with a report given to us. They will also send a report from the dump site verifying that the asbestos insulation was taken there.

Scott was very knowledgeable, courteous and professional as were his team. The large job was completed in two days and everything put back as it had been before they came. We were quite please with their work and would definitely recommend them.

Scott & his project team did an efficient and professional job. From first phone call to asbestos removal and final billing, the only delays were on my end for paperwork and approvals from my insurance company.
Scott followed up and was a great communicator via email (something much easier for me than voicemails and calls).
I am glad to have the materials removed and to have worked with Scott.

Scott was very professional and his crew did great work. They worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up perfectly; you couldn't even tell they had been there.
Price was competitive - about $500 lower than the other bid we got, for the same exact job.
We did have to wait a couple of weeks to schedule, as he is busy - not a bad thing.
Scott even sent us a check for $9 that we overpaid! We were impressed by the gesture.

For what I wanted wonderful.
They might not be the cheapest on the block, but you get what you pay for... plus they might actually be cheaper for your real needs than others because they will do encapsulation as an option where others won't
The responsiveness, punctuality and following up is amazing especially compared to most contractors I've dealt with.
He was honest and not trying to scare me into a more expensive (but not too much more) removal option... I however decided to go that route for aesthetics more than anything (out of sight out of mind, which is important depending upon why you are having it done).  Other companies might be a little less, but is it worth a mere hundred or so less to wait a month or so when time is important (usually time is)..   And with this company, time is highly valued and respected!

I contacted this firm as they did work for us at a previous home.  They were excellent again.  They looked at the issue, provided a quote and explained the service they would provide.  They showed up on time, did excellent work and we are completely satisfied.  I highly recommend them.

They used special fans and taped up all kinds of plastic everywhere before they remove the asbestos.  They use chemicals also and we were not allowed to stay in the house while they did the removal.  We had to go stay somewhere else.  They also used chemicals afterwards to clean up the residue.  I have never used an asbestos company in my life before.  They did what they said they were going to do.  Their price was cheaper than other people quoted, but we paid a lot more than I thought we should have.  Their quality of work was good and they were responsive and very professional.  I probably would use them in the future if necessary.

Lake Shore Environmental was prompt and curteous. Their estimate for removal of my asbestos siding was very reasonable but slightly higher than the other I got. I would contact them again for any future projects. I would recommend them to anyone based on my experience.

I contacted Lake Shore Environmental Solutions because vermiculite had fallen from a cavity in an outer wall of our house onto the floor of our basement. I was informed by the owner, Scott Lindeman, that the minimum charge was $500 and that he could have someone out by the following day. He said that judging from my description, that should cover the job. The man arrived punctually and I showed him the pile of vermiculite by the basement wall. He informed me that the pile was a little larger than he had expected and had produced considerable dust, so he would prefer to come back another day with suitable arrangements: a fan for negative air pressure, etc. He thought the work would take about four hours. He said I would have to arrange the price with the owner. He took a moment to vacuum a small section of floor--perhaps ten minutes work, out of the hour he was present and discussing the job with me. A day later, the owner contacted me and said the job would cost $900. I was somewhat surprised. I asked him whether if I did not take him up on his offer, he would charge me $500 for the visit. He hemmed and hawed, and said he would charge me for the hours his employee spent--three and and half by his estimate, including loading the truck and driving time. I said he could go ahead and schedule the job, but that I did not like being held over a barrel, where I would have to pay even if the job did not get done. I said I understood his issues of having to pay for his employee's time. I suggested that since he had an email address, he could have requested a picture of the pile of vermiculite and given me an estimate: this would not put me in a difficult situation and would be good business. I requested a written estimate. At no point did I fail to be courteous to this man, raise my voice, or express anything more than displeasure at being in a bind. He, however, informed me that he had reconsidered having me as a client, and I could find someone else to do the job. I did get him to say he would not charge me for the useless visit. Mr. Lindeman also stated that he was the one in the company who gave estimates: this was the first time I had heard that an estimate was even available. It should have been the first thing he stated on my first phone call to him. And yes, I could easily have sent him a digital photo--I also contacted him by email. I don't think I would call this sort of behavior outright dishonesty, but it does exhibit a woeful lack of professionalism. It stinks, plain and simple. A professional would have arranged for an estimate up front, would not have pressured me to accept a higher price, and would have tolerated honestly presented criticism. Mr Lindeman did none of these. Lake Shore Environmental Solutions may or may not be good at what they do. I don't know. But I would never want to do business with a company that treats me this shabbily. I will look elsewhere for a solution.
Response from LAKE SHORE ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS INC

"I received a phone call from your member stating that a small amount of vermiculite had fallen into his basement. Based on his description, I informed him that it sounded like it would fall under our minimum charge of $500.00 to HEPA vacuum up the spill and dispose of the vermiculite which is assumed as asbestos containing. I dispatched an IDPH licensed asbestos supervisor who arrived at the members home. Upon his arrival, he observed that the vermiculite was larger than merely a small pile as described over the phone, but was spread about in various locations. He rightly told the owner that the initial scope of work was insufficient to properly clean the living space & returned to the office. I determined that in order to properly clean the space, it would require additional equipment and manpower in order to perform this work properly and thoroughly. This additional work would amount to an additional $400.00 to complete, making the total job $900.00 to complete. After I explained this to the owner, the owner became agitated, extremely sarcastic and repeatedly questioned by business ethics. During this conversation I decided that I did not want to perform any work for this individual and recommended that he find another contractor to perform the work for him. I never charged him anything & felt it was better for both of us to part company."

He removed the asbestos and cleaned up well and it looked cleaner than it was before they came. It was unbelievable how clean they were and they finished the job faster than I thought. They had to wait around till the inspector came and checked to make sure there was no asbestos in the air. They put plastic all over the floors so anything dropping would go onto that and they also put plastic over my door going into my house. The closed the stairs going up to the basement, so I would get anything in, they also covered the registrars and covered the laundry shoot. Out of all the jobs, I have ever had done, this has been the best. He also let me know that under the tiles there was asbestos and I would use them again if I needed to have that done. They were recommended to me by my plumber. They were the best workers I have ever had.
