Animal Care and Medical Center had been my parrot vet service for 14 years under the guidance of Dr. Timothy Harris (with a specialty in birds and exotics), his assistant and wife, Karen, and a fine staff that evolved over the years but was always reliable, cordial and professional. Dr. Harris and Dr. Soma (another Vet that worked there) saved my parrot's life with a difficult surgical procedure. I came to view Dr. Harris and Karen as if they were my own internal medical professionals - but for my parrot.
Several months ago, Dr. Harris sold the practice. I was not totally surprised that this occurred because it was something he talked about down the road and to provide less time "running a business" and more time just working with patients and enjoying his free time. But it was my understanding was that he intended to work there a few times a week because of his specialty, expertise and long association with many of his patients.
It had been only 12 weeks since my last visit and all was well. When I made an appointment with Dr. Harris last week, I was shocked to learn he was gone as were most of his key employees. I was told over the phone that he had not yet finalized his part-time schedule but would be working there. But this was obviously not true. When I got in the office, I was gold he had retired. All of his former key employees were gone. The fact that there was no website notice or letter sent out to longtime clients came as a shock to those who'd come to rely on Dr. Harris and his staff over many years. He was a dedicated Vet to all creatures great and small. I found this very suspicious and at the very least , certainly not a positive way to transition and market a new practice - particularly to former patients.
When I arrived for my appointment, much of the framed art and other accessories that adorned the office and made it so personable were gone. There were holes in the wall. Things looked so bare and "rough." It did not leave a good impression. At the very least, a sign stating "pardon our dust - we are redecorating" or some notice of transition would have given comfort to Dr. Harris' clients. Having been in business, it just didn't "smell" right. I did not feel confident.
Therefore, I can no longer vouch for this vet practice with new owners/staff for which I gave rave reviews in the past. I am kind of lost at this point. A testimonial (from me) on the practice's website is still there but applies to the former owners. Make your own decision if deciding to use this practice.
