My AC was not cooling. I called All-Temp and they gave me my options (recharge the unit , replace the coil which had a leak or replace the unit). Pete told me the units motor (which is 17 years old) was working great and he would not at this time replace it. Pete gave me the price of a new coil, which was more than I could afford at this time and was about 1/3 of the price of a new unit. He recommended that I recharge the unit, which was less costly and would definately get me through this season and maybe next season as well. He was extremely professional and honest (something you do not see much of anymore). I highly recommend All Temp. It is a shame that Angie's List does not have a rating of A+ , as Pete deserves it.
Service guy was great !
The install took longer than they had thought, from 9AM to 6PM. Apparently the wrap around was more involved than they thought. The installers (Levi and Tom?) were nice guys and they did a great job. They held to the quoted price. Everything looks good, and more importantly, works great. The old system was incapable of keeping the house at 74 if the outside temp went above 89 or 90. We hit 100 today...temp in the house was 74. Very pleased.
Time and Materials - can't remember how much for getting a person to come out and estimate a job (minimum time/cost was for 30mins).
I did not schedule an appointment as I'm not expecting to pay for an estimate. I can't shop around if that's the case.
Price - Bad
Estimates should be freeResponsiveness - Excellent
Person answered phone immediatelyProfessionalism - Fair
Person did not gather details. Angies list page says call for details regarding Free Estimates; person didn't elude to anything other than paid estimates.
"Please call back as their is no charge to give an estimate for this work. Ask for Rich."
He sat down with us and went over his recommendations in detail, explaining why he recommended one model over another. He made sure all questions were answered to our satisfaction. He even called back shortly after leaving as he'd forgotten to include the special they were running for the month of April, and so adjusted the pricing accordingly.
After meeting with competing representatives, we called Chris back the next day to confirm that we'd be going with All Temp and scheduled installation for April 25. They also confirmed that they'd take care of getting the necessary village permit.
Juan, the lead of the installer team, arrived on time. After familiarizing himself with the layout, he and his partner got to work. They did a fantastic job with the install, everything was done quickly, efficiently, and professionally. They tested everything after install to make sure that it was working properly. Juan showed me all the maintenance basics for the new system and made sure I didn't have any questions. They cleaned up the work areas before leaving. From arrival to departure, the entire process took just over four hours.
All Temp's policy is to have a post-install inspection done within two weeks of the work. Steve arrived today (May 1) during the requested window and happened to arrive at the same time as the village inspector. Both found that the new systems were installed well & according to code; the village inspector was quite impressed at All Temp's own inspection policy and indicated that it was uncommon.
Over all, this has been a fantastic experience. Good pricing, good service; we'll definitely be coming back to All Temp for annual maintenance.
Levi and Matt came out at the designated time. They removed the old units. Installed the new furnace/AC. They cleaned up after themselves. Hauled away old units. Levi explained everything to me. They were very professional and polite. I am extremely pleased with their work, and how they went about it. I would highly recommend ALL TEMP to anyone needing HVAC work.
At the end of the call she didn't say bye and just hung up on me. I was not rude to her during the call and just stressed I needed to speak to someone ASAP about service or at least know when they were coming.
Someone did call me back this morning to schedule. I told them EXACTLY what the problem is per Nicor and they still told me there is a $89 diagnostic fee.
Due to my experience with the woman last night and their diagnostic fee I will not be calling this company ever again. Other companies I have used in the past didn't change just to show up.
"First I would like to apologize to the member for our answering service's handling of his call. I spoke to our service and they played back his message. He was treated very poorly by the operator and I understand she was summarily fired for her behavior. The service is normally very good with our customers and we receive many compliments on them. As for our service rates, our diagnostic charge includes our travel expenses to the clients home and the time to diagnose the problem. Clients call sometimes & swear they know what's wrong yet we find another problem instead. With today's cost of gas, we can't send techs out for free. I hope the member got his problem resolved and again, All Temp Heating & A/C apologizes for the inconvenience. Mick Stein, Service Manager"
"To Member and all of our current and future customers, diagnosing cracked and unsafe heat exchangers is the most important part of our job because it deals directly with life safety! I stand behind my technician’s diagnosis of cracked eyelets in both of your heat exchangers 100% and I implore Member to allow us the opportunity to meet him at his home and show him these cracks. His home is either unsafe right now or can become unsafe at any moment when the cracks worsen. There are no “minor” cracks with heat exchangers. Once the integrity of a heat exchanger is compromised it should be removed or replaced immediately. I agree with Member that it is always a good idea to get a 2nd opinion with major purchases, however, it is important that your 2nd opinion comes from a company with the same qualifications when dealing with life safety. Every single technician at All Temp Heating & Air Conditioning has gone through extensive training, including specific training on your Heil brand furnaces, and has been certified as a Heat Exchanger Expert. We take this so very seriously that our policy is that if we misdiagnose a cracked heat exchanger, we will INSTALL THE QUOTED FURNACE(S) FOR FREE! Please call me so that we can ensure the safety of your home and your family. If we cannot show you the cracks we will gladly furnish and install the equipment that was quoted to you on 11/30/11 at no charge. Eric Mehrholz, President, 847-526-9082."
---The installation team consisted of 2 guys who worked diligently for probably 6 - 7 hours to complete the work.
---The work was done professionally, respectfully and courteously
---The old units were hauled away
---We have been very happy with the function of both the AC and Heating Systems so far
When they came out to do the first fall inspection I've done in a couple years they showed me a crack in my furnace and discovered the motor was hanging because it was attached on only one side. After 25 years, it needed to be replaced. I scheduled a time for Art to come out and he brought me brochures on several options. I'm happy to say that Art is old school, meaning he's not going to sell you something you don't need and won't push you to buy something you don't want or can't afford. His only concern is doing right by the customer, and after giving me a lot of information he made easy to understand, I selected a furnace and we went on to swap stories about our families. This is a throwback to the old days when people were smart enough to know that in order to build loyalty you had to first build relationships. How refreshing!
As for installation, Dave came out and worked quickly and quietly. I love Dave as much as I love Art! He left the place cleaner than when he walked in. He took time to explain everything to me, showed me what settings I was to change on the humidifier and thermostat, and told me to change the furnace filter once a year. He's great with detail and if it wasn't for him being so thorough the new furnace would have been installed over a rotting cased coil that would have dripped all over the new unit. I appreciate people who go above and beyond to make sure everything is working well and Dave did that. The company that installed my air conditioner a few years ago didn't even come inside to check the coil.
I highly recommend them. The people I've talked to in their office and those who have come out to the house have all been polite, friendly and responsive. They also know what they're talking about. I'm grateful to find a company I can trust.
They'll be out in another week to ask me how I like the new furnace and to see if any adjustments need to be made. No charge for that - they just do it - and based on what I'm hearing, not every company follows up like that. That's just one more reason to call them.
