This project began as a stressful nightmare one year ago with a different company who rebuilt the East parapet. It was the biggest and most expensive work we three owners have had to deal with. We were not happy with the previous work and were fortunate to find RC Tuckpointing to complete the job. They were awesome from the get go. Professional and dependable, they showed up when they promised, did a fantastic job and gave us a fantastic deal. Chris, part of the father and son team, is a great guy. I would recommend them with confidence and have them back for future work in a heart beat! I am sorry it took me so long to write this review but it is definitely well deserved!
Description of Work: Rebuilt the parapet wall on the north side of our 3 flat building as well as a partial rebuild on the south side plus some tuck pointing.

Ironically, we hired Rand C to prevent possible leaks through our parapet walls, but it was after their work that we got several leaks. Rand C performed the work in September 2012; the following January, we had new leaks in the top unit directly beneath the area where Rand C had removed the flashing and tuckpointed the parapet walls. When we informed Rand C about this by phone, they at first denied the leaks were related to their work and blamed them on an old leak we had in a separate location via an HVAC pipe. (Soon after, our HVAC technician fixed that leak by patching the HVAC pipes in the roof.) But when Rand C showed up and saw the new leaks, they then told us they would repair their own work, without admitting any blame. This would have been fine—but this year we've had yet more leaks in the same exact location. Again, this area never leaked prior to Rand C's work. We once again called Rand C, who came out, looked at our parapet walls, and told us the walls looked fine to them. This time they blamed the exteriors of the parapet walls, saying water may have entered that way. Exacerbated, we called several other masons and roofers to assess the problem. All 10 of them told us the same thing: Rand C had done a poor job. One roofer called the work and quot;amateurish.and quot; These people told us that, when Rand C removed the flashing, they simply exposed decayed brick that let in water and they did not sufficiently rebuild or tuckpoint the parapet walls to prevent leaks. We don't think these companies were telling us this just to drum up business for themselves. In fact, the roofers said they could not do the brick work and that we would need masons to take care of it. And again, all 10 of these professionals had the same negative assessment of Rand C's work. What makes this even more upsetting is that, when Rand C first removed the flashing and saw the poor quality of the bricks, the company charged us an additional $3,000 to repair them, bringing the total cost from $3,500 to $6,500. In the end, we spent $6,500 to get new leaks we never had. To fix the problem once and for all, we had to find a professional company that actually knows what it's doing. That clearly isn't Rand C.
Description of Work: We have a six-unit condo building in Chicago. In 2012, R&C Tuckpointing recommended that they remove the roof flashing that covered the tops and interiors of our parapet walls and then replace and tuckpoint the bricks as needed. R&C had tuckpointed our building without incident in the past, so we hired them for the job.

We did come out numerous of times to address the problem. We did rebuild the East inner parapet wall , but not the North inner parapet wall because condo association did not want to spend additional money at that time. Water was coming through the HVAC location and that was fixed by HVAC company. These leaks that we're happening on the North side that started almost 7mo after we completed the original work. Sorry that this was happening.

It went fine. There were some additional charges because the job was bigger than the coupon. They were good but there was a small problem which I cannot recall. But I called them and they fixed the problem.

NOT GOOD. Never using these daily deals ever again
Description of Work: I bought one of those 4 hours of masonry work for $99. This guy is terrible. He immediately started to say how the 4 hours didn't include what I needed. It was a simple brick replacement that would have taken 2 hours at the most. Instead he tried to squirm out of it and get over $250. I told him not what I agreed to and I wanted my money back. I NEVER GOT THE MONEY BACKless than THANKS!

Description of Work: Although Chris was very nice and very responsive, I'm not sure the provider understood the "deal". He gave a quote and then deducted $100 for the coupon. However, I paid $100 for the coupon and I was to receive a value of $200 or 4 free hours. I wasn't getting any "deal" in my opinion. I was paying $100 for $100 worth of service from him.

I purchased a coupon for masonry repair but when I contacted the provider to have the work done, I was told that they were too busy and I should ask for a refund from Angies List. I asked them if they would honor the coupon after the expiration date (as other providers had done) and they said they could not do that because Angies List was in control of the coupons. That is nonsense as the policy states that even after expiration, the provider has the option of extending the coupon. The only reason this is not an F is because they responded to tell me they could not perform.

The cracks were fixed with "Vulkem 116" Limestone color caulk. This was used on expansion joints where the sidewalk meets the house foundation, and on limestone pieces where cracks were. This was a temporary fix to slow down cracks from getting wider and deeper.
I bought a coupon for 4-hours of mason time on or about 23 October 2012. I spoke with Rand C and explained that I needed a prior mortar repair to be acid washed. The job was small (likely less than 25 square feet) and I was happy enough to get the job done. The couple I bought stated that I was to pay for materials. The contractor came to my house, called me, and told me cleaning would be $250 over my coupon. I asked him how he figured that. He said he had to have a power washer and he had to buy a compound to clean the brick. I told him that the coupon stated I would pay materials and a power washer is equipment which, as a professional, he was expected to provide. I told him that he should give me a list of his materials and I would buy them and he could come and provide his labor. He gave me a list of material that called for 5-gallons of a brick cleaning compound. The compound would have cost $150. I checked with the manufacturer who told me that the size of my job only required 1-gallon of material not 5-gallons. Rand C decided that they did not want to do my job. I wrote Anglies List that I bought the coupon and they should be compelled to come and do the job since that is what this firm agreed to do. Angie's List wrote back that I would hear back from the contractor within 2-days. It has now been over a month and I have not heard from them.
Description of Work: The contractor came to look at the job the day after I contracted him. From the conversation, the contractor appeared only interested in an up-sell where he would boost what I would pay from the $99 I had paid to $349. The only service he provided, though, was coming, looking at the job, and giving me his up-sell estimate. When I told him I would buy the material (since I no longer trusted him), he provided me with the name of the product he would use. Interestingly, he told me to buy a 5-gallon bucket of the material which would have cost me $150. I contacted the manufacturer of the product and the customer service people said I would only need 1-gallon of the material. I would have wasted 4/5ths of my materials money if I followed R & C's recommendation.

I respect you comment and opinion, but there is some things you left out. I did come out and gave you a verbal qoute over the phone of $250.00 for material cost that I would have to pay to properly complete the job. And I'm NOT trying to up-sell anything. You said, "that it B.S" and you called me a "Crook". First of all I NEVER took any money from you, infact I contacted Angie's List myself to refund you the "Big Deal" money and you refused to take the refund. I will not perform work for someone that will disrespect me or my company. Then you said to email you list of material to complete the job and you will get all the material and I did. (Customer never purchased anything) Diedrich 101 Cleaner 5 gallan $115 Rental of a Power washer $99 + tax (I don't own all power equipment) Airless Sprayer $19 + tax (All of these materials would belong to the owner, if owner would buy them) which means NO $250.00 for my company or myself.

I had no problems or issues with this company, it was a very straightforward job.
Description of Work: They looked at two projects, indicated why I needed to do something different for one (I.e., get someone to realign a door frame rather than have him fill in the gap--so he was honest even though it meant less work for him), and set up an appointment to do the other. They looked at the area of my house that needed tuckpointing, suggested that we replace some of the bricks , which they provided at reasonable cost. The work was done in a professional and workmanlike manner.

Chris and his workers did a good job. Work was done quickly and efficiently with minimal fuss. Scaffolding was set up on a Monday and they were finished by Wednesday or Thursday. My only (minor) complaint was lack of proactive communication at the end of the project. No one contacted me to let me know the work was finished, and I had to call them to verify it was finished and get a report on the work completed. It would have been nice if Chris or someone on the team had contacted me the day the work finished or the day after.

Everything was fine. They got it done quickly in two days. They really did a nice job. The price was fair. I needed the work to be done in a hurry. They were reasonable for what I expected. The guy was out here the same day I called.
Description of Work: I used the services of R & C Tuckpointing, Inc around a month or 5 weeks ago. They were tuckpointing two sides of my house and repaired a chimney.
Rich and Chris came over for the estimate and worked within my schedule for a time that was easiest for me. They had a written proposal sent to me within a day. Even though it took me a while to get the funds and also review the other estiamtes, once I gave Chris the word I wanted to move forward with the job he worked me into their production schedule. After telling me it would take at least two weeks to complete (with possible weather delays) they finished on time and without any "surprises".
Description of Work: After receiving 4 estimates I chose R&C to repair my chimney, front porch and tuck-point my entire house. Not only was their estimate the lowest received, they also included more work for it. Their work was exemplary, the look of the entire house has improved. Rich and Chris went beyond their usual work hours and also gave me ideas on how to improve the areas around the chimney and porch to prevent things going wrong in the future. I whole heartedly recommend them and plan to use their company in the future.

I think they did very well. They came, did the job and did it as quietly as they could. They were very nice and it was no trouble at all. I would recommend them. Their price was fair. Everything seems good in terms of quality of work. They did it in about a day and a half. They responded quickly. They were very good in terms of punctuality. They were very professional. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of R & C Tuckpointing Inc. The last time they worked was probably one and a half week ago. They were putting a line on the chimney and ducts. Chris was referred by a friend and did a solid job at a reasonable price. Other estimates might have been more through but Chris was practical and only estimated what was immediately needed. In the process of getting estimates on replacing a very old flat roof on a graystone building the roofer advised me that I should have repair work on the masonry on the parapet wall before installing a new roof. I contacted four masonry companies to inspect and give me estimates on the necessary work. Estimates on cost and scope of work varied widely, ranging from $7,000 to $15,000 dollars. Finally, I called the roofer and asked him if he could recommend anyone that they had worked with. He put me in touch with Chris at R and C Tuckpointing. Chris came out and personally inspected the roof and gave me an estimate on what he thought would be the required scope of work. The roof must be removed before an accurate determination can be made on what needs to be repaired. The masonry repairman and roofer work very closely together and alternate with their time on the roof (remove the roof, repair the masonry, replace the roof). So it is important to have a tuckpointer and roofer that work together to get the job completed in a minimum amount of time. I was very pleased with the work done and the cost only exceeded the original estimate by $200. All the roof and masonry work was completed in four days from start to finish.
Description of Work: Repaired and replaced bricks in a deteriorated parapet wall. Remove an old chimney.
