Ok. The service performed was done as expected.

They were very accommodating over the phone in scheduling an appointment to keep me on schedule with a pending closing date. After a little mixup with the original technician, Brad arrived later on my assigned day and did a great job in cleaning out and checking the furnace for any defects. He also took care of a problem with the air conditioning drainage (for which I had no problem paying the extra repair charge) to ensure all aspects of my furnace would be satisfactory to my buyer. Brad was a complete professional in his demeanor and technical expertise.. I can see why this company is so highly rated here on Angie's List. I highly recommend them for your HVAC needs.

When my air conditioning stopped working, I first contacted a different HVAC company and the technician made the assessment that the compressor was shot and in need of replacement. They recommended the option of going with a completely new AC unit. I decided to get a second opinion from Shavitz (having seen their sticker on some of the AC units in my building). Cornelius from Shavitz confirmed the initial diagnosis and the estimates that the project manager, Lou, subsequently quoted me were very much in line with what I received from the other company. About $200 more for a comparable AC model, but given what I read about the level of quality Shavitz brings, I decided to go forward with using Shavitz to perform the replacement of my air conditioner. Scheduling the appointment with Chris was a breeze. The day the work was scheduled to be performed, the installation team, Mike D and Mario, arrived exactly on time and quickly got to work. They were professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about what they were doing. I especially appreciated how thorough they were in the installation and testing of the system. The AC units are on the rooftop of the condo building so there is a long distance between the AC unit and the furnace/AC coil in my condo. Because of this, it took a bit of time to flush the lines, fill with the refrigerant, and test it to make sure it was working as expected. Being a hot day and a Friday, it would have been easy for them to test it to a point where it was “good enough”. Due to the thoroughness of their testing they found an issue in the lines that they were able to fix. While this added time to an already long day, they explained to me what they were doing and the importance of it. All in all, I was very impressed with Mike and Mario’s level of skill and pride they have in their craft. I will absolutely be using Shavitz exclusively going forward for my air conditioning and heating work, and highly recommend them.

The inside component of our air conditioning quit. Shavitz dispatched Bradley S who arrived within the promised time-slot. He found the drain that removed the coil condensation had become blocked. He cleared it but after pouring a lot of water into the tray, decided a more aggressive cleaning was needed. White vinegar and blasts of nitrogen from a portable tank removed the last of the gunk that had accumulated over time. Bradley walked me through what he was doing and answered all my questions. The work was done on warranty because the company had replaced the outside part of the air conditioning a couple of months previously. They could have argued that the warranty only covered the outside machinery but took a more generous view of the coverage.

Let me begin by saying that I had the furnace replaced January 2015 by a very highly ranked heating & a/c company on angies list. Since then, my tenants have been complaining of lack of heat and cooling from the vents. I had the original company that replaced the furnace come take a look to see what was wrong. They found nothing and the suggestion (very pricy one, too!) they gave me wasn't even a guarantee that it would help the problems. I had a feeling it had something to do with the new furnace cause I was not having issues beforehand but like I said, no issues were found. So i decided to go with my gut and use another company to see if they could find the problem. I had used Shavitz before for annual maintenance one of my other properties and were always satisfied with them. Well, after the most recent (today) service call from Shavitz, I am officially only using them for all my properties! They found the problems that the previous, highly reputable company could not figure out. I even signed up for their 3 yr maintenance program with gives you 2 checkups/yr and a 25% discount on parts. I was very impressed with the advice, service and professionalism of the employees of Shavitz, Inc. I learned of the company through Angie's List ratings and reviews. I knew my A/C unit had to be replaced. Shavitz assessed my needs and not only didn't press for me to buy the most expensive unit they offered; they even explained why it would not be cost effective to go with a more expensive option. I was particularly impressed by Shavitz employees Mike and Linus. They were prompt, accommodating to the needs of the household as they went about their work, and demonstrated their knowledge and professionalism through out the job. They didn't just leave after the installation - they tested the unit, ironed out glitches so that the system would operate more efficiently, and stayed to explain (simple) maintenance steps I could follow to insure the longevity of the system and its efficient operation. I previously had air flow problems in the house and they even explained what I could do to remedy those problems. Likewise, dealing with their office for billing and scheduling (Chris) was a pleasure. I highly recommend Shavitz and will certainly use the company in the future.

Ryan, the sales rep, was knowledgeable and clearly articulated what needed to be done and how the price was constructed. The two installers, Mike D and Miguel installed the new equipment and got it working without incident. They were courteous and spelled out what they were doing. . The unit was easily taken up by the elevator to the sixth floor but then had to be lifted by ropes through a hatch above the stairwell to the roof. This was completed without unanticipated difficulty because they had done it quite a few times before. Some work had to be done on the part of the system inside our condo. That was also done efficiently with no mess left behind. We chose Shavitz because they have a branch in our town and their website conveyed a sense that they cared about their reputation. We were looking for a company that would not just install but would install it right. The unit has been running smoothly for a week. So far so good.

We used Shavitz out in the northern suburbs before we moved back into the city. We were glad they service downtown too. They are so professional and prompt. Advanced calls estimating time of arrival. Estimate of how long the work might take. Very friendly and neat staff. The service manager Josh has gone out of his way calling other tradesmen and searching online to help us solve a mysterious sound we have in our unit that might or might not be related to the HVAC. Great and smart guy. They even put on the little booties when they entered the condo. Then when finished they explain everything they did and what they found or didn't. You won't be disappointed if you need a new HVAC company.

Shavitz did a good job. They were reasonable in what they charged. I would fully endorse them.

I love Shavitz. I wouldn't hire anybody else. What I like about them also was that it's hard to come up with like a bunch of cash all in one month, so I can pay like $15 or $16 a month, so it doesn't even lowest in my budget and then I paid for my maintenance. They're very good people. I was turned on them because my son's godfather has a big construction company and met Shavitz. So, they got to know each other and then he recommended Shavitz so it was like a personal turn on to them. I am going to use them again in the future.

It went great. They were right on time.

I chose to use them because they had a lot of good reviews on Angie's List and were highly recommended. They came out and didn't seem to oversell me. He understood what we needed and he just gave me what we needed to buy. He didn't overdo it. They were very nice. They were clean and cleaned up after themselves. I had no problems. I got a fair service. They did a very good job. They called me back right away and came out as fast as they could. Everything went fine. They gave me a two hour window and they came out exactly at that time. They were really good about that.

I have seen their agents 4 times in 4 months. They serviced my furnace in February and did a good job. Later, at our request Ryan came to explain about chimney liners or possibly switching to a direct outside venting furnace and boiler (which we chose not to do as long as our furnace and boiler are still working). Recently they installed a new thermostat and came the next day without charge to secure it better to the wall. Finally, another time, when our furnace would not start, Shavitz was very responsive, came out on a Saturday and quickly established the cause: chimney blocked by debris left by an uncautious masonry company that had rebuilt it two days before. Branden was most helpful and judicious. He cleaned the debris with my husband, and the furnace started running again. I like their service men as well as their dispatcher. A very good, reliable, honest company.

Awesome! The tech was professional and took the matter very seriously. The equipment was new & up to date. He answered every question thoroughly. I was impressed - they are now my go-to company. I bought 3 of the high end CO detectors - 2 for us & not for my parents.

Their visits always go well. We are members of their Gold Maintenance Program and our semi-annual service is covered within that program; therefore, I don't even know what the approximate cost so just plugged in $180.00... Cornelius is always on time, very professional and knowledgeable. A couple of months ago we lost our heat and he made a special effort to locate the motor we needed during a cold weekend. Shavitz is great!

This was on a Friday morning at 9 am. We told them we had no heat. They have us a window of 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Showed up at 5. Charged us $179 to come out. Said it was the circuit board. Wanted $1495 for "emergency service hours" or $975 if we waited till Monday--said it was a 3 hour job. We said no thanks. Called another company on Monday. They came out for $79. Said it was the circuit board--which he had on the truck. Charged us $352 for the part (which was a reasonable $100 over the Grainger price I saw online). Fixed in a half hour. We are done with with Shavitz.

Cornelius had covers for his shoes. Turned thermostat up and than down to clean and fine tune furnace. Did the most thorough job. Including using a vacuum with camera to check for cracks and wiping down inside of furnace 8 most thorough tune up ever. Never had vacuuming and wiping done. Also changed the batteries in thermostat.

"Premium Price - Below Average Service" sums up the service experience. Our house is over 100 years old and has two heating systems - radiators and baseboards. The baseboard heating system has two zone. I called Shavitz on the 2/23 to come out and check the fill valve and add water to the system. The service person (J) came by Tuesday for an hour to look at the system and then came back on Thursday for 5 hours to "fix" it. On Thursday he left a system that still wasn't working but: - He managed two walked through the entire house with dirty/snowy boots messing up hardwood floors and carpets. - Left twice for over 30 minutes each to pick up equipment he should have brought with him in the first place. - Despite explicit instructions he worked on the zone that is isolated and shut-off. - We paid $1100 Coming back from a business trip on Thursday to a still non-functioning system. Somewhat annoyed, I called Shavitz on Friday and got to talk to Bronson Shavitz. Bronson was courteous, but didn't seem to be interested in doing right - no effort to re-mediate the unprofessional service of J. However, we agreed to have another service tech (Cosmin) come out. Cosmin did what I asked Shavitz originally to do, he filled and bled the system and had it up and running within three hours. Bronson Shavitz attempted to charge us for the three hours Cosmin spent to fix J's botched up service call. Bronson's unwillingness to fess up to the failure, his eagerness to "cover costs" over customer service are enough for me to distrust Shavitz. We will be looking for service somewhere else in the future.

I brought my son home from the hospital and found my furnace wasn't working. I called Shavitz, since I found them very professional, honest and reliable when I used them. Jason came out and knew immediately the problem was my old thermostat. He was very knowledgable and quickly replaced my thermostat. Yeah heat and excellent service!!!

Our first floor furnace was not working . . . woke up the day after the February 2015 blizzard to a 59-degree first floor. Called Shavitz and scheduled an appointment; they said it would be after hours between 4-7pm. They called about 2:30 to say the tech was finishing his appointment and would be in transit to our appointment next. Cornelius arrived just after 3pm; he was very professional and courteous. After explaining what i had noticed was happening, he witnessed a cycle as we approached the furnace. He was able to diagnose the problem within the first 10 minutes - my previous HVAC company had been unable to diagnose on 3 previous visits. Cornelius proceeded to replace the failed part and restore the furnace to proper function. After fixing the issue, he conducted other tests of the system to determine the state of our 24-year old furnace, which he admitted was in surprisingly good condition. He explained exactly what he was doing and what he diagnosed. A great first experience, we have already signed up for a maintenance plan and scheduled the spring appointment.

Went well. I got the $89 special through Angies, they followed up quickly. Overall they seem good, though they do try to sell you a 1 year maintenance plan (basically a fall & spring checkup for both heating and Air Conditioner). Pay for 2 service visits (that means pay for one 6 months in advance), but it does get you a discount on parts if needed. I needed a part, but because I had bought the 89 dollar special through Angies, the savings (to get their maintenance plan) was very small compared to my alternative (using the $89 discount which did not apply to their maintenace plan, only to the one time service).

I have been a member of theirs for several years on contract. I had some problems with the boiler on one of my rental properties. Last year I was told one of my boilers needed a repair for $2000.00 of which I had them perform. In addition they have been here yearly to do the maintenance. I smelled gas leaking. The gas company came out to test that there are no leaks. They discovered that the connections of the thermal couples were leaking because they were not tight enough. They found several leaks. I had to pay the gas company to fix it. In addition over the past year I have been spending a phenominal amount of money for heating. The gas company told me that leaking gas could cost more money. I feel that Shavitz is responsible for the extra cost of gas over the past year. I also feel they owe me for the extra costs to the gas company to fix the leaks. Shavitz maintenance man should have caught this and fixed it. I attempted to talk with Shavitz about the problem. They said they would call me back, I never heard from them.

The work turned out alright. I wouldn't use them again. They were going to charge me an arm and leg for pieces that weren't that expensive, but I don't know if that is standard for all heating and air conditioning services. I just thought they were telling me things that didn't need to be done, and they were searching for work, so I wouldn't use them again. There were no additional charges on top of the big deal. They were selling $7.98 capacitor for $98. I did it myself.
