Shavitz Heating and Air Conditioning

My simple advice is to ask for all costs upfront in writing. This was a two day job, but it should have been a one day job, I will get into that later. The repair was fine but the communication and billing was unacceptable. I was told by the technician in the field that the $179 Service charge would be credited to the final bill, which is what I am used to with other service comanies like plumbers. Because of that I agreed to the work. I was then surprised to see the service charge on my final bill as well as a $50 extra deposit fee. I called the office and they said that they never credit the service charge, perhaps it was a miscommunication error, and that they would correct the extra deposit fee. But there was no accountability or responsibility for their uniformed field tech who essentially lied to me. I feel it was dishonest and a bad business practice to not offer any kind of discount for their mistake. They also showed up the first day and then went to the warehouse to get the part but came back with the wrong part. They then had to reschedule for the following week because it was 3pm on Friday and the warehouse was now closed and they couldn't get the part until later. They offered to do the work over the weekend but that would incur overtime charges. I told them I would not pay overtime charges for a mistake they made getting the wrong part. Overall I am very dissatisfied with the company and would not recommend them.

Recommend not purchasing the 5 year service plan. If you are unhappy, you will feel stuck due to sunk cost.

I set an appointment. One week wait for the first appointment. On the day of the appointment, in the afternoon I received a call and was told that they do not work on my brand of air conditioner. I took the afternoon off for this appointment. They completely wasted my time. Buyer beware!!!

Four months after having our furnace replaced, we're still having issues with it and keep getting incorrect or confusing information from the techs that visit. They tried and failed to replace the thermostat twice. The latest idea is that the furnace is overheating, which is something I think they should have figured out when doing the installation. The owner gets involved and it seems like things are going to get better, but then another tech shows up with more bad news. Decided it's been long enough to leave a review, so here it is.

The technician arrived precisely on schedule and performed a thorough checkup of the heating system, using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools. He also explained the condition of the furnace and helpfully forecasted its likely future.

I'm very happy with project manager Rich Davis' expert and very helpful advice. The installation was an all day job. This is to be expected. Miguel, Jose, and Francisco are expert Carrier installers. They did a terrific job. They answered all my questions and explained things to my satisfaction and cleaned up, too. If you want your project done right with quality in mind, call Shavitz.

This was a complicated remedial project that took over 5 hours to complete. Craig knew exactly what he had to do when he arrived, and brought with him all the necessary equipment. He explained what he was going to do before he started, did the work, and then thoroughly tested all the equipment to make sure it was working properly. And, when one part didn't function correctly, he figured out how to fix it; after completing the work, he retested the entire system again. In addition, he explained to me how the new thermostat operated, and then made sure I was comfortable using it. Craig is not only diligent and careful, but also very friendly and polite. He thoroughly cleaned up after he was finished. And, before he left, he even fixed a door handle that was loose and needed attention! I fully recommend Craig K. He is extremely pleasant and smart, as well as being highly experienced and knowledgeable.

Diagnosis was quick. Tech (Cornelius M.) was excellent - highest rating - friendly, knowledgeable; mentioned other products, but no real hard sell. Blower motor used was aftermarket item - I have no idea about its reliability. Price for service was high, but maybe market rate - I have no basis for comparison. Price shown as "Approximate cost of service" includes $130 service fee.

Nathan was our technician and he was great. He did a thourough job while being sure to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it so that I would be able to better care for the system in between services. He arrived exactly when he was supposed to and was done in a very reasonable amount of time.

So now it's January and I come home to once again find water damage in the ceiling that I had repaired a few months ago, the cost of which was not entirely covered by the insurance company used by Shavitz. I have emails from my upstairs neighbor and Shavitz stating that the equipment Shavitz installed did the damage, which means there's no doubt their equipment did the damage the first time. Bronson Shavitz calls me and tells me they will send someone over to drywall my ceiling (again) and paint my ceiling (again) and I can't help but laugh into my phone. Why would I use them for drywalling and painting when they don't seem to have a grasp of their own business? Why would I trust them after they shafted me the first time? And, this is an admission of culpability. Shavitz tells my neighbor that I need to have estimates done on my ceiling if they're going to pay. Really? For a $550 job? They're telling me what I NEED to do when I'm the person inconvenienced? After I flew home from Europe and cut my vacation short by a week? After I spent hours and hours on the phone with various companies and tried to minimize the cost of repairs? After I dealt with three days and nights of fans and dehumidifiers outside my bedroom? After I lived with a gigantic hole in my ceiling for three months? The drywall/painting companies that provided estimates for the first damage -- my intention being to minimize the cost to Shavitz -- didn't want to return to provide estimates for the second job, because I refused their bid the first time (after receiving a better one), and because they have better uses for their time. And what about the value of my time? Shavitz expects me to research companies, and contact them, and schedule them to come to my house to provide estimates to what, minimize the charge by 10%, by $50? My time has a value. Like I want a bunch of strangers coming through my condo. My ceiling is now repaired a second time -- it cost me $550 -- but it doesn't look a good as new. After two patch jobs, it's lumpy and wavy, and it could deter a potential buyer of my condo when I decide to sell it. Oh, and after both drywall repairs, my condo was covered in a fine dust. So Shavitz isn't paying my neighbor, and my neighbor isn't paying me, so I guess I'll have to file a claim against my neighbor in small claims court, and he'll have to file a claim against Shavitz in small claims. What a waste of everyone's time and money. What a way to run a company.

I own a 3 apt building at 1957 N Fremont, Chicago, IL 60614. I authorized a repair to be $140. I was charged $433 to fix a heater problem at 1957 N Fremont. It was not fixed. This took place on 1/31/19. On 2/1/19 I called to say the heater was not working. Jennifer told me someone would go out on 2/1/19 to see what the problem was. That didn't happen as Henry was at the building today, 2/2/19, saying that his cost would be $240. I never authorized this. I just want the heater to be fixed. If Shavitz can't fix it, they should have told me.

Service provided was beyond excellent. Craig did an amazing job of fixing the problem and explained everything to me along the way. Absolutely fantastic service!!!

They services 8 GFA's in an apt. bldg. All were dirty and older so extra work needed to be done. they explained all the diagnostics and why they recommended specific repairs. They put them in order of priority so I could budget the work wisely.

On Christmas Eve, our furnace, well past its warranty, began to fail. Shavitz responded quickly, and the technician, Ramiro, was able to provide a temporary fix to ensure we had reliable heat. We didn't want to make a decision about replacing the furnace and Shavitz suggested a much less expensive option - cleaning the coils and installing a better filter. Based on our initial positive experience, we requested Ramiro perform the additional work. The process required most of a day, and Ramiro was again punctual, efficient, and professional. There were no surprises and Ramiro made sure we understood what was being done. We've used Shavitz for many years and we've been happy with their advice, their technicians, and the quality of the work.

Multiple technicians over a year-long period were ultimately unable to accurately diagnose a sporadic problem. We spent a lot of money on repairs only to have to replace the furnace after all. I understand that things are sometimes difficult, but I don't like technicians telling me that they are certain they understand a problem when they don't.

Technician came after hours to give us a 2nd opinion on our old boiler. I was told by another company that the draft wasn’t working properly and had the potential to leak CO2. Technician, Craig, was very thorough checked everything and taught us a lot about how it works. It was expensive because it was after hours but that’s expected. I definitely will be using them again.

I’ve continued to hired Schavitz for all things A/C and furnace for my home due to their knowledge, honesty, and professionalism. This time met with Craig since he specializes in boiler systems and once again he exceeded my expectations with his knowledge and service. If you want complete transparency and the highest level of service then don’t hesitate to hire Schavitz. Shavitz did an excellent job on the bi-annual maintenance of our furnaces. They changed the filters, cleaned the units and explained the work they did.

Whole gaggle of people showed up at my home on time and ready to go. Removed the old furnace (1977 circa with a pinch of 1989) and the A/C unit, arranged for its removal and proceed to install a new furnace and a/c unit. They spent the whole day getting it in, wiring, and installing the new thermostat. They cleaned up before they left and wore shoe covering when walking through the house. The project manager Rich came by to check on the progress and everything we talked about when he did an estimate happened with no problems. The crew was efficient and knew what they were doing. Rich said Shavitz did not subcontract and everyone was an employee and trained in their job. They were very professional and friendly. Answered any questions I had and I felt very comfortable using them. I called Shavitz to do a 6-month check on the furnace and the service person showed me how to change the air filter and reviewed how to set the thermostat. I was having problems working the thermostat since it was more complicated then old one and I was not able to control the settings via my smartphone. This turned out to be a systemic issue with the manufacturer and has since been corrected via a software update. So far there has been no further problems.
