Excellent! I called Marty first thing in the morning and he came by 6pm that night and fixed it even though he had many calls after the long holiday weekend. He was leaving our house to go to another call because he did not want to disappoint his customers.

The service person arrived, looked at the refrigerator and determined we needed a repair. The estimate was 389 dollars for parts and labor. The parts were a defrost heater assembly, defrost thermostat and a defrost timer control. He never tested the original parts. The refrigerator was not disassembled. I removed a panel in the freezer section, removed the defrost heater assembly and observed the element was broken. I purchased the defrost heater assembly for 95 dollars locally. I installed the heater. The refrigerator has worked for about a month. My expectation was that he would test the parts and pinpoint the problem. In other words, if the specific part was tested, I would have been fine with his charges. I looked at several sites that had online videos about refrigerator problems similar to what I was experiencing. Parts were removed and tested with an ohmmeter. This is was influenced my expectation of the service call.
Description of Work: Our GE refrigerator was not keeping food cold. We wanted a diagnosis of the problem and an estimate of cost to repair it. I made a phone call. The receptionist knew her subject, was very prompt, professional and cordial. The receptionist stated that it would be eighty nine dollars and if the repair was performed the 89 dollars would be included in the price. The service person / owner was prompt.

Response from Marty's Refrigeration Inc
I am the owner Marty & I am very disturbed with this report because the member/husband was not home to see what I did to diagnose the problem. His wife was there, but she was in and out of the kitchen. He should have been there to see what I do and listen to my explanations before complaining about the quality of my work. The member paid the 89.00 service call which was included in the estimate. In this model refrigerator the defrost timer is at the bottom of the refrigerator, so I used my clamp-on ohmmeter to check the electrical circuit off the defrost timer control which is located behind the toe grill. I advanced the timer into a defrost cycle and was not getting a reading on my meter which means there is no current going thru the defrost system. I repeat, I was not getting a reading on my meter. This tells me there is a problem with the defrost system. You do not have to disassemble the refrigerator to determine this and make an estimate of the charges. The wife told me they did not want to put a lot of money into fixing an old 25+ year refrigerator and that they were thinking about buying a new one. My job was done at this point. As you can see, the member bought the heater for 95.00 and did the work himself which I am sure was labor intensive as he had to be careful taking the refrigerator apart so as to not damage or crack anything, and he had to defrost the ice off the coils before installing the heater (the ice on the coils may have been defrosted if he left the refrigerator off for a couple of days). As a standard of practice, when I do this type of repair I replace all of the componenets-heater, timer, & thermostat for preventive maintenance so as not to have a malfunction down the road. The thermostat could be faulty causing the heater to stay on too long and burn out. These parts all work together. Plus the coils must be defrosted at the time of repair, so I manually defrost them and also clean out the the drain tube. This is what I have learned for over 40 years of experience in refrigeration. I also always clean the condenser coils front and rear. This is how the job is done thoroughly and correct the first time. Did the member do this? Unfortunately, I will never know if the defrost problem recurs, but I hope the customer would be honest enough to let Angie's customers know if and when it does. Note: I spend many hours of my time talking to do-it-yourselfers, giving advice over the phone for free. But, unless you are electrical savvy and have the tools and equipment needed I would not recommend using a website that shows how to fix it yourself. Every model is different. Refrigeration and appliance repairs in general are complicated. There is a chance of further damage if you are not careful and don't know what you are doing. I have gone out on many jobs to correct problems for do-it-yourselfers. Marty Walker

Serviceman called within 30 minutes of our contact and he came to our home th same day. Nice! However, he replace a $25 fuse in our dryer and charged us $225.00 ($86 service charge PLUS $114.00!!! for 30 minutes of service). Did the job, but I think we were grossly overcharged.

Our pricing is based on The Major Appliance Service National Price Guide from 2007 and this is based on flat rate pricing. The following components that make of the flat rate price are : diagnostic service call, parts& tax, and labor rate based on the type of job (not an hourly rate). This is a fair way to price so the experienced, seasoned and fast tech is not penalized and also the customer is not overcharged because of an incompetant tech that takes too long. Also, some jobs may be faster than others but require more knowledge and liability to fix. The member was quoted our service call of 89.00 over the phone and told plus parts and labor before the tech was sent out. Also the tech told him the entire cost at his home before the work was started. It is unfortunate that the member will not use us again as we have been in business for over 30 years and are a professional company that stands behind our work. He was charged a fair price. We have over 40 great reports from Angie's List, but as you can see by this member you can't please everyone.

We recently moved into a home with a subzero refrigerator which had stopped cooling on a very warm day. Marty came out the day I called. Myself not knowing anything about subzero, he was an expert and educated me as well. I hired this company for the excellent reviews from previous Angie's list members, and now I know why... Marty's Refrigeration lives up to his outstanding reputation. Marty is professional, smart, and has fair pricing. I would use this company again and I would recommend him to family and friends.
Description of Work: Subzero refrigerator stopped cooling, The coils were 100% blocked with dirt. Marty did a very nice job cleaning it out and cleaning up after the work was completed.

Description of Work: Our refrigerator stopped cooling properly, so I called Marty and he made room in his schedule to come out the same day. Marty arrived at the agreed upon time, spent some time trouble-shooting, repairing a fan and clearing a drain line to get the freezer/refrigerator to defrost properly.

Our dishwasher seemed not to be cleaning the dishes very well. We called Marty’s, left a message with a service, and within five minutes we were called back. Mary showed up right on time. He thoroughly examined the dishwasher and found nothing wrong with it. He gave us a number of suggestions on how to use it better, which we did and have found to taken care of the problem. Excellent service and assistance.

Our freezer was not freezing well. We called Marty's at night after hours and left a message with their service. Marty's called me back first thing in the morning and had a technician there by the afternoon. He was even a few minutes early. The technician was courteous and knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem right away by the sight of the frost crawling up the freezer, and informed us that this was affecting our refrigeration as well. He told us we would need a new defrost timer and thermostat assembly. He said it would run about $250. He also advised us that the fridge was older and there was a chance that at a later point the fridge could have other issues. Between the cost of the repair and the risk of an older fridge, we chose not to have the repair done and purchased a new fridge. At the appointment, the technician told us (with understanding and no pressure) that if we changed our mind about the repair and called him before 5:00 PM, he can get the parts and install it the next day. The service call was a reasonable $85. I would totally use Marty's again.

The company was very responsive to my initial call, which was on a Saturday, and the woman I spoke with was courteous and helpful. Marty called before he came and showed up on time. He, too, was courteous, helpful and professional. My entire experience with Marty's Refrigeration was positive.
Description of Work: I needed service because my refrigerator was making a buzzing noise for a few months and then stopped working completely. Marty discussed the problem with me and then thoroughly vacuumed the dust from my refrigerator. He cleaned underneath the fridge and also took off panel in back to clean the area around the compressor. He set the refrigerator to the proper temp and explained to me what the problem was. He encouraged me to buy a new fridge if the noise came back and made recommendations as to what brand to buy and where to buy it from.

Great! Marty was honest and did not attempt to over charge me or perform services that were not needed or not economically sensible.
Description of Work: Marty came out to try and fix my washing machine. Although he has the skills to do so, he was honest in informing me my money was better spent replacing the machine than the parts. However, Marty took the time to attempt to repair the parts without replacing them. It was fantastic he was able to respond to me the same day! I did feel his service call charge was slightly high and did find one place cheaper, but they could not come until the following day. Perhaps in different economic times I wouldn't say I felt his charge was high--it was competitive and cheaper!!! than other places I called. And I was happy with his service. It's not a complaint---just an observation :)

The door was noticably dropping over the past few weeks and on a Sunday starting making a scary clicking noise. We left a message for Marty that afternoon. On Monday morning around 8:30 am, he called back and said he could come out that afternoon. Within 24h, our door was realigned, again sealed the refrigerator nicely and our coils vacuumed. We were very pleased with the prompt callback and excellent service. This is our second excellent experience with Marty.

Marty did a fabulous job. He is knowledgeable about old ovens and new ovens. He tried to unfreeze the dial by using lubricants. Unfortunately, it worked somewhat, but it was clear a new thermostat was needed. He is ordering a part and will come next week to install it. He also pulled out my other two refrigerators and spent time cleaning the coils which were caked with grime and dust. Marty is wonderful. He is thorough, conscientious and cleans up. He called before he came, was pleasant and worked quietly.

I called around 8:45 and Marty responded quickly. Stopped by on the way to another job to look it over and pick up parts. Returned around 11:45 and stayed until 4:00 when the job was done. This included 2 or 3 trips back and forth to the parts location trying to hunt down the correct heater assembly. Everything was cleaned up when he was finished. This saved me throwing out a great deal of food in my freezer. I was just delighted.

While he was not able to fix it immediately, I appreciate the fact that he was honest with us. He could have easily sold me an expensive replacement instead, since I know nothing about the workings of most large appliances, and I didn't read all the fine print on the warranty information, either.
Description of Work: Refrigerator was not working properly; Marty called back promptly and was on site within the hour. He tested relays and other parts, and eventually determined that the source of the problem was the failure of a major part that was still under warranty.

Marty gave me an approximate time of arrival and called to let me know he was on the way. He arrived on time. When he checked the dryer, he concluded that the motor was the problem. He got the dryer running again (by turning the drum, which was stuck) and said that I would need a replacement motor for a permanent fix. He gave me an estimate for that repair. He said that if it happened again, I should consider whether I want to fix it or buy a new machine. He offered to put the cost of the service call toward the repair. I appreciated his straightforwardness and the fact that he gave me the information I needed to make my own decision about the repair. The machine is still working as of this writing.

Making the appointment involved a couple of calls back and forth because the answering service referred the call to Marty's wife who had to check with him about whether he services this type of washer. But the calls were handled promptly and an appointment was scheduled at a convenient time within a day or two. Marty called as arranged on the day of the appointment and we set a time. He ended up coming earlier, which turned out okay because someone was home. He worked on the washer for about an hour and a half, fixed the problem, and left the area clean.
Description of Work: Our 5 year old Whirlpool Duet front-loading washer had water seeping into the tub after a few days of not using it. Marty diagnosed the problem as a water inlet valve wearing out so that it wasn't closing properly. He replaced and installed a new water inlet valve assembly, cleaned out the self-clean filter, moved the washer forward slightly to avoid squeezing the dryer hose, and re-leveled the washer.
