Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

Well, my wife dropped one of her makeup implements of destruction into the toilet and, instead of fishing it out or calling me to fish it out, she flushed the toilet. I tried to get it out with the drain snake that I have, and nothing happened, so I called roto-rooter, and they sent someone immediately. Daniello knew exactly what to do, and fished that bad boy out immediately. My only issue: the price. It was $180 before the $30 coupon from Angie's list. Not Daniello's fault, at all, but a bit steep. He did, however, tell me where I could go buy the industrial snake for future incidents. All around excellent!

They were 33% higher than a quote I had already received. He was prompt. It was just the pricing issue.

Flooded basement at 4:00 am Memorial Day. Most other plumbers didn't answer their phones and if they did their rates were triple because of the time and because it was a holiday. Not so with Roto Rooter in Chicago. A friendly voice greeted me on the first ring at 4:30 am, scheduled the next available plumber and assured me that there are no extra fees with Roto Rooter. Got a call as the plumber approached. Greg from Roto-Rooter arrived in the early part of the scheduled window. Rooted and replaced our sump pump in no time. He was friendly and knew what he was doing, explaining everything as he worked.

The service man was very professional and tried everything to fix the problem. Tried to keep area as clean as was possible. Cleaned area after wards.

The work turned out wonderful. The people were very nice over the phone when I called. The guy came out and checked all the lines. He knew exactly what he was doing. He showed me what to do and how to keep the drain lines clean. He also showed me to how to check and make sure that it is flowing appropriately. He gave me a quote before he did the work. He recommended products to help keep it clean. The only thing that he didn?t do was clean up. He was very punctual. I called him on a Sunday around 11 o?clock and he sent someone out before 1 pm. That was actually wonderful. Other companies that I called said that they would charge extra for coming out on a weekend. I liked him.

I had a bad experience with them. They called me a few times, and each time they told me they would be here at a different time. They have their own way of charging people. They have a price list, but I think they do actually increase or decrease the price. I got the impression that they try to really take advantage of people as far as the cost is concerned. I have had them out once before, and it was a totally different price. Somebody had come to do the same thing for me from Roto-Rooter about two months ago, and they had charged me about $200; now, this guy was trying to charge me $320. I thought that was a bit excessive. I called another provider, and they quoted $115 for the same thing. Moreover, because I am a single woman and am here by myself, I thought he was trying to take advantage of me by quoting a higher price. I have reason to believe that this is true, so I would not recommend them to single women. I would not use them again in the future.

AVOID Roto-Rooter at all costs! [2/19/2011] We called to request an estimate for sewage blockage problem [2/20/2011] Technician arrived to provide the 'free estimate' and charged $150 for video inspection (in case I did not choose Roto-Rooter to fix the problem. If I contracted with Roto-Rooter to repair my sewer, then the $150 would be credited toward repair.) [2/22/2011] I visited village officials to learn what was required for sewer repair on my property. After visiting the village, I was told that a 'video inspection' should include a description of where the break is and the break location should be marked on the property. 2/24/2011 - 3/4/2011] After several voice exchanges back and forth and being jerked around by Roto-Rooter local offices in western Chicago suburbs, I was finally told by the purported national manager in Akron, Ohio, that I could pay several hundred dollars for a video inspection DVD. Even then, I get the ground location marked only if I actually contract for the repair services with Roto-Rooter). [Conclusion] I'm horrified to think of what Roto-Rooter would come up with next if I continue trying get them to fix my sewer problems. Avoid RotoRooter at all costs!

I came home Tuesday evening to a sink full of water and the stopper was not in the sink, not good. I Roto Rooter. Roto Rooter stated that they would have someone out in 2 hours, and couldn't give me a price until they saw the situation. Roto Rooter never showed and rescheduled me for Wednesday morning between 8 and 10 am, they arrived at approximately 11:30am and gave an estimate of $269 before the Angie's List discount of $30. I declined their services. I was able to call another service provider and the problem was taken care of for over $100 less than Roto Rooter. The only way I'll use Roto Rooter again is if all else fails and they are the only option I have left. I watched the other plumber and clearly, Roto Rooter is overcharging for this particular service. Even if I have another stoppage w/in the 6 month warranty period they offer, I would still come out cheaper using the other service again. On good note, a Roto Rooter representative did keep me apprised of the situation on Wednesday evening before it was determined that they would not be able to make to my home that evening. I appreciated that.

The technician completely cleared the clog which could not have been cleared with a household product. I personally felt the $269 was too much to charge for a clog and that price was after he agreed to go down $60. However, the sink is clean and clear after a month or so of slow draining. The tech looked at another concern I had with the kitchen sink and I appreciated his advice.

Less than an hour to rod out and put kitchen pipes back

Great. very experienced person, very careful with equipment, very clean. He knew just how he wanted to do the job, and did it with no time wasted, used two different cutting tools on the roots. Show me the roots and suggested they would grow back without herbicide. Applied herbicide, cleaned up the area. No damage to my stairs, no dirt left behind. Drains running great.

We spent 2 long days with our snake tool trying to clear a clog in our tub drain with no luck and were VERY frustrated. Our sink had been leaking for a while, both at the faucet and at the trap. Decided to bite the bullet and call a plumber. The woman who answered the phone at Roto-Rooter was very helpful and answered all of my questions with the answers I wanted: Does the plumber have a camera to run into the pipes? Yes. Can he replace the faucet and trap? Yes. Do you take Amex? Yes. :) Luigi came out within an hour of my phone call. It took him a long time (almost 2 hours!) to get the clog out because our pipes are wonky and the snake kept heading the wrong direction. However, he persevered in our tiny, cramped bathroom, even with a scary barking dog and a curious toddler as an audience, and the clog flushed away. He also took me into the basement to show me how the previous homeowners' jerry-rigging of the pipes may continue to cause us a problem in the future. He then set to work on the sink trap, which had been cracked and broken by our attempts to rod the drain ourselves. Due to poor planning (again by the previous homeowners), he had to remove an adapter and put several joints and bends in so that our vanity drawers could close. This also took a fairly long time to do, and poor Luigi had broken a decent sweat by the time it was finished. He then installed a new faucet (which had been sitting, still boxed and unused, in our basement for several years), including a new drain and plug. He offered to clean up the mess in the bathroom, but since a good portion of the mess had been created by our own attempts to clear the clog, AND he had clearly missed lunch, seeing as he had been working at our house for several hours, I told him I would handle it. The cost was reasonable for the work being done, especially since it took longer than expected for the clog to break. I also appreciate that Luigi gave us his phone number so that if any problem related tot he work today comes up, he could come back and fix it. Basically, I could not have asked for more.

They did a great job with no problems. They came out around 4 or 5 in the afternoon right after we called them.

Came to give an estimate. No obligation. Sunday night, no extra service fee for weekends or holidays. Other plumbers wanted $600. I had a sewer back up. He came rodded out the line. Kept the house clean, polite. Showed me the problem. Made some suggestions.

Very smoothly. The plumber was very professional and arrived when promised. He listened to the symptoms of the problem and correctly diagnosed that the catch basin next to our building had to be cleaned. He then gave us an estimate the he stuck to and fixed the problem right away. He then came up to test the work and voila! problem gone! a wonderful experience!

They are very prompt. Typically, they are very responsive and do a good job.

I called them after no response from another vendor. The appointment setter was very professional and told me they could come out right away! The technician showed up in less than an hour. He was very professional, told us the flat rate, wore booties to protect my floors and got right to work. I am pretty amazed at how fast the whole process went. He wheeled in his machine to snake out the drain, got it hooked up immediately and was snaking the drain within 5 minutes of showing up at the house. He was very polite and kept everything very clean. Overall a great experience!

It was a Sunday and their weren't a lot of plumbers to chose from. I've had this done before for only $120.00 but again, it was a Sunday. The original price was 360.00 but they had a coupon for 30 dollars off. Except for the price it was a good experience.

We showed the techician where the water connected to the house. We have a mobile home and he had to crawl underneath it to check out the connections. He checked every water line in the house including behind the washing machine, refrigerator and dishwasher as well as every sink, bathtub, shower and drain. I felt sure that everything that could possibly be checked had been.

I had no issues. They did good work and were competitively priced. It was the second time I had worked with the gentleman they sent out. He made sure everything stayed clean by putting down plastic all the way up the stairs and everywhere else. He was also able to quote us for the caving in pipe but suggested we have someone who comes out with a camera to check it out.

A plumber named Chip arrived. We explained that, if we take the apparatus and hose off that connects the cold water pipe to the filtration water tank, the pipe will leak from the hole. My husband demonstrated by unscrewing the hose from the pipe and water came spraying out. We told him that we wanted the hose and apparatus removed that were attached to the pipe and the pipe replaced. He responded that the job would cost $189.00. I asked him what he was going to do for that amount. He answered that it was hard to tell how much would be involved until he got into the job. I was my belief that we were still talking about the pipe we asked him to replace. So, I agreed to the price. He let little residue of water left in the hose drain into a dishpan and then he said he was done without doing anything. I asked him if he was going to remove the hose and apparatus from the pipe. He told me that if he did that it would probably leak and that it was their policy that if something is not causing a problem the way it is, just leave it that way. Then, he charged us $189.00 for a service call. So, we were $154.00 poorer (we had a coupon) and the pipe is exactly the way he found it with a 4 ft. hose hanging from it. He did nothing. We do not have a lot of disposible income, so we will have to wait a while to save the money to hire a quality plumber to come in and replace the pipe. We don't want a rubber hose dangling from the pipe or a pipe that has a hole in it. If he couldn't do the work, he should have said so. We found roto-rooter's approach to plumbing makeshift in my opinion. But, the thing that made me angry the most was that their ad promised that they do not charge for a service call, if no work is done. In our case that turned out to be a false claim. I was also angry because we had explained and demonstrated so carefully what we wanted, both to the dispatcher and to Chip. Merely advising us that it was his opinion that we not have the work done is not "doing work" or completing a service call.

Their price was too high and I went with a different provider.

They were prompt and punctual. Pricing was never clear and I learned later that I was overcharged for the job. The second plumber admitted it to me.

The technician was pleasant and appeared to be competent. But I believe the receptionist should have at least given me a range of prices over the phone. Had I known it would be so expensive, I would have done more searching before hiring Roto-Rooter.
