could not be happpier--it looks superb and they did a fantastic job! I think that you do have to be firm with them about your schedule (they wanted to redo my requested day at the very last minute) and you do have to be firm about what you expect (they made a mistake and only had written down one side of the driveway to be widened, not both -- but they included it in the quoted price, no problem). After the job, they left a lot of soil from the digging and widening, and I called and insisted it be hauled away (and they did - for free--but it took three phone calls). So, yes, a bit of insistance and oversight on my part, but as i said, I cannot be happier with the finished result, and I'm really picky! My driveway looks perfect and super smooth, beautifully sloped to the curve, perfectly even with my sidewalk and the concrete in my garage. Flawless.
Update: I've had them out twice to sealcoat the driveway and it's done fantastic both times. They even patched a side that was cracking off (needs more dirt to support it) for free. Great company.
Damico Paving deserves the great ratings they have on Angie?s List. We selected them for our asphalt driveway resurfacing project because of their ratings as well as their very competitive job quote. The Angie?s List discount coupon was definitely a plus. They were easy to work with and were conscientious about returning calls and arriving at the promised times. The work crew was neat and professional. The new blacktop surface looks great and the cleanup at the end was exceptional. They definitely delivered on their promise that ?When finished, the only thing left behind will be a new driveway?.
I called the office and requested an appointment for an estimate. Shortly thereafter, I was called by Rob, the estimator, and we agreed on a time to review the job. Rob arrived on time. He had a very professional manner and after looking over the job and listening to my concerns, proposed a minor change to the current layout to improve access and gave me his estimate.
Our driveway was about twenty years old and had fairly deep ruts in places where cars had been routinely parked. Other estimators had said that the stone base might have to be replaced and there might be an extra charge. Rob said that his estimate would include any extra materials or excavation to fix the problem. In the end, his estimate was the lowest of those I received. (Also, Damico does not require a deposit, usually 1/3 of the total, and includes a copy of their current liability insurance certificate with the proposal.) Rob estimated the it would take about two weeks to schedule the job from the time I accepted the contract. I asked to see an example of their work and Rob gave me a local address where they had just completed a job. It was the best work I had seen. I faxed my signed contract (including the Angie's LIst $50 discount coupon). I also called Rob to let him know that I had accepted. He asked if there were any days that would be better or inconvenient and said the he would schedule the job.
After about a week, I called Rob and left a message to ask if he had a rough idea when he would schedule within the next few weeks, as I might have to make some plans that would cause me to be away for most of some days. He called the next day and said he could schedule in the following week. That was convenient for me and we scheduled the job.
Rob called the day before the job to confirm and said they would arrive late morning.
The next morning Rob and the excavating crew arrived at about 11am. They immediately went to work removing the old driveway and preparing a new base, with Rob supervising. The crew was friendly, very efficient and worked quickly. In about an hour and a half, the old driveway was removed and the new base was prepared. Since Damico had about five jobs scheduled that day, the paving crew was completing a prior job and so did not arrive until about two hours later. Brad was the supervisor of this stage of the work. He answered my questions about the process and made sure that all aspects of the job were completed properly. The friendly and efficient paving crew was a pleasure to watch. Each man new his job well and coordinated it precisely with the others. They finished the job in about an hour and a half, cleaned-up the work area and left me with a great-looking driveway.
Overall, this is the best experience I have had with any contractor and I highly recommend Damico Paving.
A crew arrived as scheduled and the job was done within 30 minutes. They put up a string tied to two stakes on each side of the driveway to prevent parking on it for 24 hours, and left without making a mess. We are very happy with the work and price and would use them again.
The entire team showed great initiative and professionalism throughout the entire process, especially while installing the new driveway. The entire operation, and each team member, worked as if they were performing a well-choreographed operation. In total, the team was here for about an hour in the morning to lay our rock base, and about 90 minutes in the evening to lay the asphalt. We had to wait a little bit longer than we expected in the evening for them to return, but it was only because they were completing three other jobs that afternoon. They were worth the wait!
We have gotten many compliments from neighbors about the quality of the new driveway. I recommend Damico Paving very highly.
I am writing a revised review based on our most recent dealings with Damico. Please see original review below and then read revised review. We had our asphalt driveway removed and replaced on May 1, 2012 and were happy with the results. At the end of June 2012, we noticed cracks forming on both sides of the driveway and at the base. On or about July 1, we contacted Damico and asked that they come out to repair the cracks. They mentioned the heat as a possible source of the cracking and agreed to come out and look at the damage and repair the cracks. We called on a Friday and they were sending someone out by Monday to look at the damage. On Monday, my husband followed up and the Damico rep, Brad, and he said he didn't make it over to look at the driveway. He then said he'd stop by that week. Not really sure if he did ever stop by because no one knocked on the door or call to follow-up. To make a long story short, my husband has made multiple calls to Damico to set a date for repairs. On numerous occasions (at least 5), Brad set up a day and time and never showed up. My husband has had to call Brad over and over again and keeps hearing the same excuse - I didn't have time to come today, Another job went long. In short, I do not believe that they are planning on repairing our brand new driveway. They were supposed to show up today (9/11/2012) and did not and did not call. We are extremely disappointed to say the least. I've had asphalt driveways in the past and they have never cracked in the summer. It is always hot in the summer, so to use that excuse is unacceptable. I'm not sure if it's sub-par materials that have been used or improper installation. At the very least, we expected the driveway to be fixed or replaced. Now we are going to be forced to have cracks for the life of the driveway. Buyer beware. I hate to write this review, but felt I should warn others that they are not willing to remedy the situation if there is a problem.
The company was very quick to respond to our initial request for an estimate. We obtained several quotes from various companies and their quote was competitive. The project manager, Phil, was easy to work with and answered all of our questions - especially as it related to obtaining a permit. Phil was on-site the entire day to oversee the project which was great. The entire crew was professional and efficient from start to finish. We are so happy with the finished product. We will definitely refer this company to family and friends and will use them again in the future.
I have the nicest looking driveway in the neighborhood!
Damico Paving came out when scheduled and Rob gave me an estimate on the spot. He explained the entire process of removing and replacing my asphalt driveway and how the company would make it look like brick pavers. I had 2 other estimates and both companies told me that they would mail the estimate. Out of the 2 companies, only 1 mailed me the estimate a few days later. It was a little lower but I've seen Damico Paving signs and trucks all over town and felt more comfortable with Damico Paving.
I work out of my home and watched the entire process. The company came out as schedule and ripped out my driveway and apron and replaced it with 3" of new asphalt. Rob told me that the crew of 8 men had been together for over 10 years and I believed him. The workers didn't even communicate, everyone knew their job. I was very impressed.
The next day a different and smaller crew of 3 men came out to my home. They worked all day and by the end of the day my asphalt driveway looked like brick pavers. My yard was spotless when they left. I've had neighbors and family come over and they can't believer that it was asphalt and not brick pavers.
I would recommend this company to anyone!
March 2012 after posting to Angie's we received immediate results. They were good enough to make the visit we were hoping for and the salesman on site apologized. We are now reviewing our options for repair of our driveway.
"This client was called the minute we saw the bad review. We apologized and spoke with Him and he was very understanding and told us that he would change his review. Damico Paving prides itself on quick estimates and quality work. The office is closed from Thanksgiving until April, but we do receive all calls. This should have never happened. We have maintained an A grade and have been awarded the Angie's List Super Service Award the last 3 year. We strive to be the best...................Tony Damico"
