Dave's Concrete

I am having them pour the concrete and then another company is doing the stone work.

We were going to buy a used hot tub from friends and needed to have a slab poured to accommodate it.  I found Dave's Concrete in our small 4-5 community yellow pages and then happily found it listed here as well. Ruben was very professional both on the phone and in person.  He gave me rough estimate over the phone and offered to come out to review the project and submit a formal quote which we did.  The day of our appointment his commute time was extended by about 15 minutes due to traffic.  He called about 15 minutes before the scheduled time to apologize about running a little late and said he should be at my home within 15 minutes...it was more like 10.  We went over the intended plan and he offered helpful input when possible including possible changes to the slab size and future options to add to it as well as equipment choices and the impact on the yard (heavy machines on fragile grass is not a good combination).  The formal quote was in my inbox when promised and was extremely competitive.  Unfortunately the hot tub had seen enough damage from insects and wildlife to make it not worthwhile so we are not proceeding with the project.  If we had, the work would have been done about 3 or so weeks later so a little lead time is necessary.

There are no dislikes.  He did a great job and I would highly recommend him.  The price beat everyone else I checked.

When we decided to investigate the possibility of updating our front entrance, we identified 3 concrete contractors and 3 hard scape contractors for bids. We were on a fast time line to get the work completed to minimize the impact on the landscaping. Dave's Concrete was one of the concrete contractors contacted for an estimate. He responded promptly and courteously with a competitive bid. Upon receiving all the bids, we selected another contractor, but we would recommend Dave’s to anyone for consideration based on his prompt and courteous response and the competitive bid.

It went very well. Everything was friendly, everything was perfect.

I called for a quote on installation of a basketball net system for our driveway. The sports store suggested I call a local concrete contractor. The person I spoke to at Dave's Concrete was very open & honest - saying that they have not done any except to add on to another concrete project & was able to quote a price, but made the point that they don't typically do them. I appreciate his honesty and that they didn't try to sell their company just to get a job. Seemed like an honest guy.

Exceptional job

Used another company and the patio cracked in 7 days, now I have to look at it. Maybe should have used Dave. Nice guy...recommend a local contractor that is recommended by the village.

Dave was very professional and did some of the labor himself. He seemed to enjoy working with the equipment. He was careful to not touch any of the nearby shrubbery. The stamped concrete ribbons look very good and add a lot to the driveway. I was home during the project and made some suggestions as it progressed. Dave was receptive to my ideas and made changes as needed. The workers were professional and made sure that they prepared the grounds for the landscaping that we would be doing afterward. I was surprised that the sealing of the driveway and ribbons were included in the price. His price was a few thousand dollars less than two other quotes we had gotten, and the workmanship was very good.

Update April 2012:
Unfortunately, our beautiful driveway began to crack in two different places within six months of the installation.  One crack extends 3/4 of the way up the drive.  It is starting to widen.  The other crack is beginning to widen also.  It's like looking at a georgeous vase with a crack down the side. The contract stipulates that cracks are not covered under the warranty.  I believe the reason it cracked was due to not having any steel mesh reinforcement and a concrete thickness of 3 inches instead of 4.  Other proposals, which cost more, included the steel reinforcement and 4" thick driveway.  Apparently there is a reason why Dave's prices are so much cheaper.  When I asked Dave about the reinforcement, he told me that the concrete companies put fibers in the concrete mix and they told him that the fibers acted as reinforcement.  I accepted that, but apparently it  isn't true.  Dave is honest and the workmanship is good, but the bids are lower because the quality of materials is lower, IMHO.  Dave did come by to look at the cracks and told us they probably wouldn't get any bigger and sealing the concrete would help.  Meanwhile, they get wider as time goes by.

I would not recommend this company. While they didn't do our final work I was convinced I wasn't going to use this company before he even finished quoting the work. Besides being over priced, I found him to be rude and arrogant. Even before he saw the entire job site he was complaining about the property. Since I am not a concrete expert I was asking him for suggestions on placement, size, shape, etc ....... He basically was useless for design suggestions. The final contractor we used came in with a cost at well over 50% less than this guy did and we love what we paid for. Do not use Dave's Concrete if you value what you spend your money on.

Excellent experience. Dave did the estimating himself. He is very pleasant to deal with. He did all he said he would do and the workmanship and cleanliness was excellent.

Very satisfied with the overall work. Concrete looks great! I would definitely use this company again and I would highly recommend to others.
