I scheduled my appointment for a Thursday and took advantage of the service this company offers to customers who want to pay an additional $25...you will be assured of being the first appointment of the day. Completely worth the extra charge. How many of us that work have spent the better part of their day just waiting for technicians to show up? The technician called and said he would be arriving between 8am and 9am and that's exactly what happened. He quickly diagnosed the problem and informed me that the ignitor in my GE oven was not a standard part and he would need to order it. He said it would take about a week. The following Tuesday, they called to tell me the part was in and I scheduled a follow up appointment. Once again, the technician arrived right on time and replaced the part in about 20 minutes. He was professional, quick and personable. I couldn't have asked for more. I will definitely use this company again and will recommend them to my friends as well.
Description of Work: Our oven would not turn on. According to the technician, it needed a new ignitor.

Our refrigerator stopped cooling on a Saturday, and after waiting for another company to come perform emergency repairs for 24 hours (they never showed), we sent an e-mail to North Town on the Sunday. Monday morning we received a phone call, and by 11 a.m., a repairman was at our house, diagnosing the problem. Ironically, the other company called to say they could come out later in the week as the North Town repairman wrapped up. Unfortunately, the thermostat was not available until Tuesday, and Tuesday morning, the repairman was at our door immediately and the repair was made. North Town came to our house first that day because no one would be home after 10 a.m., and they had no problem obliging our schedule. We will definitely use North Town again. Great service and our refrigerator is humming along wonderfully now. Our refrigerator is 10 years old, by the way.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator stopped cooling and they replaced the thermostat.

Have to say not so good. When I made the appointment I requested anytime after 11:30 a.m.....When they left a message that am the time for service was between 10:00 - 12:00. Luckily I checked my messages by remote access, and found this out and called them to reschedule/cancel since I was not at home and would not be until 11:30....They then called back and was able to meet the request of meeting after 11:30 a.m....
Description of Work: Came out and gave an estimate to repair KitchenAid Dishwasher. At the time of service the Repairman stated the main pump needed replacing to the tune of $550, thought a little high but said ok, then the next day they called back and now the price was going to be $892. Called KitchenAid and found that the main motor would be $154.70 not $550. So I am using the service company KitchenAid is recommending and having them take a look at dishwasher. When I called to let North Town know that I have chosen not to use them, the girl stated that the technician had decided more parts were needed and he was advising against the repair. All of this is interesting since he never took the dishwasher apart to determine which parts were needed. He was in my home for all of 10 minutes and just listened to dishwasher.

Both Lynda and the repairman were pleasant, professional, and followed through on everything they promised. This was as painless as an appliance repair could be. Keep up the good work, North Town. I saved a bit of money by contacting North Town online, and then using my Angie's List coupon,too.
Description of Work: Our 2-yr old Bosch dishwasher was not working. I checked the owner's manual and the Bosch online site, but could not figure out what the problem was. Called and spoke with Lynda at North Town on Monday, the repairman came out Tuesday within the 2-hour window he quoted me earlier that morning, and he quickly diagnosed and made the simple fix (tripped doorlatch) to get the cycle buttons and dishwasher running again. He also showed me how to adjust the legs underneath the d/w so that it's now level with the floor (a problem we've lived with since we moved into our brand new house 2 years ago).

They called this morning to tell me when they would arrive. They came when they'd said they would. They diagnosed the problem and replaced the part and were finished in under 30 minutes. Very speedy! And the technician didn't mind that my dog was watching him work!

First call to inspect over and determine parts needed. There was a $104 service charge with Angie's List Discount. One week later-installation took about an hour $345. This is a kitchen Aid oven 9 yrs old which has needed other repairs previously. $450 is more than we had hoped to pay but I have no way of comparing with other service providers. Mike from North Town did work for us before-he is thorough and efficient. They are very reputable and have knowledgeable employees.
Description of Work: Installed inner door glass on lower over door (of double built in oven). Glass had cracked cause unknown and needed to be replaced.

The beginning fee for the repair began at $691, just for the parts - labor was additional. That would bring the total, if I chose to finish with them to almost $800. When I called to get the part number that would need to be ordered, they told me that their part numbers where different from the Thermador parts and I had to order through them. Needless to say, I will NEVER work with a company who charges me up before ever working with me.
Description of Work: The control panel of my oven shorted and I called for a repair, giving them a model # and description of the problem. I told them of the issue before, the entire panel needed to be replaced. They told me they would send out a repairman and see what they could do. The repairman looked at the oven and told me exactly what I told them needed to be done, billed me for $116 and told me to call and have the part ordered. The $116 was the fee for diagnostics and was not credited to the follow-up service call.

I am sorry you had a bad experience. Our part numbers are different from the manufactures numbers BUT the customer service rep should have given those numbers to you. Our diagnosis fee ($116.00) covers much more than just the time the technician spends in your home. It includes those of us in the office, part ordering and processing, our trucks, maintenance, insurance and the time the tech is traveling to your home. North Town Home Services is a high end appliance/heating & cooling company. My technicians are trained on brands most service companies can not work on. The only problem I had with them was regarding the coupon, but they did honor a 10% discount. They could not give me an estimate for time of arrival until the day of the appointment. I thought that should be able to give a estimated time of arrival when you set up the appoinment.
Description of Work: They came and diagnosed a problem with my dryer. They recommended we replace it because it was about 40 years old. They blower was making noise, but working.

A very responsive, professional company. Left a message and received a call back the next morning, and scheduled service. The repairman called in the morning on the day of service and confirmed his approximate arrival time, arrived as promised, and quickly repaired the dishwasher. My only issue with this experience is the cost (approximately $250.00 for 10 minutes of effort including a $75 part). I would probably describe this company as focusing on higher end clientele who do not have as much concern for cost but value the punctuality and quality of work.

They were trying to fix the machine and I eventually bought a new one. I would cetainly use them again. I told them to not worry about it and send me a bill and they never sent me a bill.

A technician came out to evaluate a leaking dishwasher and could not locate the problem. Suggested I run a full cycle with empty dishwasher, which I did after he left. It leaked again, I called back, and a different technician came back the next day. He did a more thoro job of taking apart the machine and found several items wrong with it, including a deteriorating liner which cannot be replaced. As it would cost $300 to repair/replace the latch and gasket we decided not to repair this 9 year old machine and to replace it instead. Therefore, North Town did no further work.

I called North Town Home Services to have them come out and service my GE Monogram Refrigerator. I set up an appointment. I told the nice young lady on the phone that I could be available between 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM for the service call. She told me that she would make a note of that and the technician would call me between 7:30 and 8:30 AM the morning of the appointment to give me a time window. The technician called around 10AM the morning of the appointment saying that he would not be in my "area" until about 1 PM. He seemed to be put off about the fact that I would not be home later than 2PM but said he would keep the appointment on his schedule. I received a message from the company at 1:55 PM saying that the technician would not make it to my home before 2. They also wanted me to reschedule the appointment. But after already wasting a day waiting for them, I decided to contact another company.

Called on a Tuesday to make an appointment. Was booked for the next day, which was wonderful. Repairman came on time and spent about an hour evaluating and fixing the dryer. Although the problem was bigger than expected (an exterior vent needs to be widened, thus cutting through the home itself), he was able to fix the dryer with minor repairs in order to get it working appropriately. He was polite and efficient. Bonus: he called a few days later to see if the problem had been fixed, which was much appreciated. Price was cheaper than quoted with the Angie's List discount, which was a nice surprise.
Description of Work: Dryer was not performing up to "snuff." Cycles had to be run twice on high for small loads. North Town cleaned out the interior and exterior vents, repositioned the machine, and reattached a minimizer to help the issue.

Overall, we have signed their yearly form and are looking forward to them servicing our air conditioner in the Spring. It is nice to have someone listen to you and not put off your concerns. This first time price was payment for filters which we know are costly, and for repairs that should have been done years ago if the other company had listened to us.
Description of Work: We were looking for a new HVAC service after questionable service from our past company. North Town answered my questions and came out at a reasonable time. Upon reviewing our HVAC with special filter, they noted that the special light inside should have been changed yearly. The service we had previously used had never changed it. They ordered a new bulb and new filters and brought them back for me with in 10 days. The charge above was for the special light and filters and for their yearly program. The gentleman who returned listened to me when I said our humidifier didn't seem to be working correctly. He examined the system and told us that it was hooked up to only turn on when the heat turned on, not to run constantly, which is the most effective way for a humidifier to run. Again, our previous service had never noted this, just telling us to turn up the system. He rerouted the system, and it appears to be running much more smoothly now.

Northtown was great. I called them on a Friday after the technician that I originally hired had not arrived within the time frame of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The girl I talked to said they could have a technician out of my house on Monday. I explained to her that we already had a plumber come out and assess the situation and the plumber stated that our solenoid valve on the dishwasher was broken. I asked if the technician could come prepared with that particular valve for our dishwasher rather than making two trips. She said it would be best to talk to the technician on Monday when he called to give the 2 hour window. I talked to the technician on Monday morning (Kevin?) and he said he would arrive between 12:00 and 2:00 and he would come prepared with the appropriate valve for our dishwasher. He arrived at 12:30, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He replaced the bad valve and checked the machine for other problems. He completed the repair very quickly. He called the office to see if they were taking Angie's List coupons (which they were) and gave me 15% off the service call. Overall, it was a great experience. One of the best appliance repair calls I have experienced.
Description of Work: Northtown repaired our dishwasher that had broken as a result of freezing conditions in our kitchen.

The technician arrived early within the time range given, and called shortly before arrival. He was friendly and professional, and repaired the device promptly. He then gave some tips about proper operation of the dishwasher. (Ok, NOW I believe my wife when she tells me I don't really have to wash the dishes before I put them in.) Their price wasn't cheap, but it was reasonable, and the work was good. I did get a discount from the Angie's coupon I printed up, and all-in-all, I am very satisfied. I would use them again, should I need their service.
Description of Work: Repaired dishwasher that would not drain. Checked system and found a small piece of plastic blocking drain hose. Dishwasher is operating properly now.

We called on a Saturday and, because it wasn't an emergency, we were told we would get a call back on Monday. We got a call early Monday morning and were told the repair person couldn't be there until Tuesday morning. This was a little nerve-racking for us as we were in need of the dishwasher for the holidays and were concerned it might need to have a part ordered for it. But late Monday morning, Mike called and said he had some time right then and he came over. Within minutes he had diagnosed the dishwasher problem and had it working again in short order. He also gave us advice on our stove igniters. He was very polite and professional.
Description of Work: Bosch Dishwasher wasn't working. We also had the stove looked at related to a question on the igniters.

Drum for clothes dryer had stopped spinning. Called North Town on a Sunday, got the answering service who, after determining that it was not an emergency (not HVAC down), promised to give the message to North Town on Monday and someone would call me. Dispatcher called me Monday in the AM, setting up a time that afternoon for a service person to come by. The cost of the diagnosis visit was $105 after the Angie's List discount. Dave came by as scheduled and diagnosed the problem as a broken belt. Dave did not have the belt on his truck and thus had to order the part (one assumes from the Smithsonian Archives) and that they would call when the part came in. Dave estimated the belt replacement at $180 for parts and labor, but suggested that once he got the belt installed, the dryer drum, when spinning, could present other issues that would require fixing at an additional cost. The part came in Wednesday and they called. Dave came out the following day and replaced it, got the dryer running and, while it was running, examined the dryer for any further issues and found none. The experience was very good and Dave was excellent. The one caveat that I would offer is that it is unsettling as a customer to get the message during a paid-for diagnosis visit that it is not possible to rule out other current problems until the first, obvious problem is addressed (i.e. the repair cost might have ultimately turned out to be another 200 dollars had something else come up). Had that happened, I would have been very unhappy, despite having been forewarned. There may very well be cases where even an experienced technician can't fully diagnose a problem without some minimum functionality and I certainly give Dave the benefit of the doubt that that was the case here, but I would suggest that it's crucial to warn customers of that possibility up front when it exists (as Dave did) AND also to work hard to improve their ability to dx problems so that the possibility is reduced. Additionally, Dave gave me a quick consult on what was ailing my fridge door, which was much-appreciated.

They charged for the estimate. They were very expensive for the work they were going to do. It was cheaper for me to hire another company to fix it, including their service call, than it was to go with them. They were going to charge around $1000 to fix my refrigerator.

Overall, it went well. I rated them a "B" for overall experience, quality and price because the repair technician had to come out a second time and replace the (defective?) part that was installed on the first service visit.
Description of Work: We have the temperature controller replaced on our thermador oven.
