Very courteous and friendly. They answered all of my questions and responded quickly. We had some copper flashing from the old roof and they set it aside per my instructions so I could recycle it. They also reused a raccoon cage we had installed previously over the attic vent. The yard was pretty clean afterwards, considering how messy tear-offs can be. I thought they did a nice job.

They scheduled quickly. They were there when they said they were going to be there. It was a nice transaction. They did everything I wanted them to do. They cleaned up everything, and they actually left it in better condition than how they got there. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a new roof.
Description of Work: I am using W Brothers Roofing for roofing and gutters. They are not quite done. They put the roof up yesterday and they will be finishing the gutters later on this week. They have so far put up a new roof and new venting.

Very good experience with W Brothers from the start. the quote was competitive and overall the best deal. I had about 10 quotes and each of the others gev me a different story on how to vent my roof. None of them very convincing. W brothers gave me a quote for exactly what need to be done and done the right way. They explained it all so i could make the right decision. On the day of the roof job they showed up with at least 10 guys they were very organized and when the last nail was put in the roof the guys on the ground had it all cleaned up and ready to go. Very nice family company. I enjoyed talking with John Sr. thru out the day.

Got a very quick response. This wasn't the kind of project that Brothers typically does so they very kindly recommended two other companies and explained exactly what I would need to have done. Very professional. Would call them again for another roofing job.

I bid the job out to 5 different firms listed on Angie's List. After I accepted the best overall bid from W. Brothers, John the owner gave me a complete description of the work to be performed and a time schedule of when materials would arrive, when the dumpster would be delivered, and when the work would be performed. All activities were performed per the schedule given. The workmen showed up at 7:30 am as promised and work was well underway by 8:00 am. The area around the house was covered with tarps and sheets of plywood were set up by the dumpster to protect the garage door. The entire crew worked like a finely tuned machine throughout the day. They manually carried 8000 lbs. of 80 lb. bundles of shingles up a 1 story hill and up a 1 story ladder and then onto the roof--I was tired just watching. By 3:00 pm, all work was done, tarps removed, driveway swept, garbage picked up, and a sweep done with a magnet to catch any errant nails. You could not tell any work had been done on the property other than a brand new roof. I inspected the roof in detail the following day both from the roof and from inside the attic. I also raked the lawn around the entire house. The workmanship and their cleanup of the area were great!! I would recommend W. Brothers to anyone (even my mom) who wants a quality job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: W. Brothers removed 2 layers of existing roofing, installed all new vents, flashing, plywood where necessary, and a new roofing system on a 3 bedroom ranch home.

Workman showed up at about 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2010, and finished around 10:30 AM. I was amazed at how quickly the job was completed! Had a crew of about seven (7) workers. Re-shingled roof is on a ranch style about 1,600 square feet, including a "L" shaped addition. Owner John Wentz, Sr. supervised the job. Job was delayed a couple of days due to rain, but John keep me informed as to when he could reschedule job. Did a good job of clean-up. I am very happy with the end results.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles, inspected, replaced one (1) plywood sheet, re-shingled, cleaned-up after work completed. Also, obtained permits, and sucontracted for a dumpster to haul debris away.

I started out by going to the GAF website where I learned a lot about roofing. I selected some of their approved contractors and matched them up with roofing contractors from Angie's list. I chose 4 contractors to call for estimates. All four were very professional and did a good job of making recommendations, etc. The contractor I selected, "W Brothers Roofing" was the lowest bidder although one other was very close in price. What swayed me to go with W Brothers was a previous review on Angie's List dated 9/9/2009 which detailed hour by hour how the work went on his home. My experience pretty much mirrored his. Also the fact that W Brothers did a complete roofing job on my daughter's home was a factor. John Wentz was most helpful in supplying roofing panels in various colors to help me with my color decision. His office also provided numerous addresses where the various colors had been used so that I could see what an entire roof of a particular color would look like. We spent a whole afternoon driving around looking a roofs and I ended up being very satisfied with the color I finally selected. The men began arriving at a little after 7:00 a.m. on the designated day and they worked all day, with only a half hour break for lunch. The work was completed and everything all cleaned up by 6:00 p.m. the same day. The city building inspector came out 6 days later and gave me the completion certificate. He commented that the roofers did a very good job. I was very happy working with this company and would definitely recommend them to friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Complete re-roofing job including total tear-off, removal and elimination of builder-installed roof vents. Installed ice-guards and ridge vent system and GAF 30 yr. architectural shingles. Reflashed skylight and around chimney. Removed all debris. Arranged for building permit and city inspection.

Did not use this company because we did not need a roof.
Description of Work: Just want to say that it is hard to know who to trust. We just moved in 3 years ago, so we didn't know quality and were looking for an honest assessment of our roof. Two other companies who came out to give us quotes said we didn't even need a new roof, turns out that we have architectural shingles with a 30 year life. Quote we received was actually for a downgraded shingle - only 25 years and plain tab. Visit, professionalism, and materials were all fine, and we were all set to use W Brothers until we got others saying we didn't even need a roof. Honesty would have been much more of a selling point than proposing something we don't need and telling us we only had 1-2 years on the roof. Initially, we were really happy with quote and vist, and we almost cancelled the other quotes...glad we didn't.

Response from W Brothers Roofing Inc
The information in the report does not appear to be intended for our company. The other roofing company is named right in the report. The report also states getting pricing on a 25 yr. three tab shingle which is a downgrade and I agree. I have done no less than eight thousand estimates over the last ten years and every single one included a price for a 30 architectual shingle.

The water was coming from the roof and freezing on our driveway and stairs. After they installed the new roof, I still have a lot of leakage that freezes on the driveway and stairs. We have been there before but I don?t know if this season is in part contributing to the problem. It?s not like they don?t respond when I call them, but there were a couple of things they needed to do by themselves, like a clean up. There are so many things they should have done automatically. I am kind of disappointed with most people as they don?t do a good job. They did an average job. They did what they had to do. They did okay. If I don?t find anyone else I would use them again. I still have to call them back to do some more work. The owner?s brother was fine and his father was out here. They were very personable and nice people. When I call them his father comes out to fix things. He has a bit of an attitude. I am not overly impressed by him. They were responsive, polite and attentive. It?s a mixed bag. They didn?t meet my expectation. They were on time and did what they were supposed to do. They were a little bit more troublesome than I would like them to be. When they removed the old roof and installed the new roof they didn?t put the cocking piece along that or the side of the house. It should have been automatically done. The level of protection that I hoped for wasn?t there.

Response from W Brothers Roofing Inc
The member sure is a nice man and it is unfortunate that ice builds up in his gutters. This is something that we can't control and is to be expected living in this area. The caulking or as he stated (cocking) is something that typically doesn't get re-applied along the flashing edge. At some point the member had a leak and somebody applied the caulk there as a temporary fix. We installed new tin flashing and ice and water shield which is the proper way to roof this section. The caulk in this area can be counter productive as it breaks down over time. The caulk will create an area for water to build up under the flashing. In an effort to please him we caulked this area so that he feels better about the roof in that section. The member is so happy he has now referred us to many of his neighbors.

Purchased 10-30-06 Tore off entire roof and reshingled with Royal S Nickle Gray shingles Replaced sheets of plywood. 2007 plywood bulging called left message they came out went in attic and confirmed they had not nailed wood down properly, had missed the rafters. They tried to screw down the warped wood and said someone would come out when the weather was warmer to fix it. Never heard from them - we called back in Spring then they sent someone out replaced 1 very small piece of wood and re-used the same shingles. Pieced together the paper underneath like a jigsaw puzzle because it was all torn up.2008 same problem in different area - fixed the same way. 2009 again same problem in area they replaced wood - now they are saying we have a moisture problem and won't fix it until we address the moisture proble. We have had 4 different reputable roofing companies come out to give us estimates on fixing this since W Brothers refuses to. Every one of the 4 roofing companies say there is no moisture problem, the wood was installed incorrectly - there still are places where the nails missed the rafters and the wood is not fastened down, the wood was installed to close together not allowing for expansion and contraction, the wood is to warped and needs to be replace not just nailed down. If this had been fixed properly the 1st year we would be done with this. Now all the roofers say we have to replace with new wood where it is all warped from W. Brothers and put new shingles accross the entire back side because the shingles are aged and won't match if they just do one part of it. The ONLY problem area is where W. Brothers replaced the plywood the rest of the roof is fine. Mositure would not just seek out their wood and only warp their wood. They rigged the roof instead of fixing it properly the first time. I paid for a new roof and now it looks worse than the old roof I had. 4 different companies all came to the exact same conclusion. W. Brothers made a mistake and instead of fixing it properly tried to rig it.
Description of Work: Tore off old shingles, replaced pieces of plywood on back of roof, new shingles for entire roof. 3 bundles of shingles fell through a space where the wood was removed and put a hole in my ceiling in my hallway. Had to wait 6 days for the painter they use to come out and fix it. Not even 1 year later roof was warping where they replaced the wood. Been 3 years of fighting to get it fixed right. They make a lot of excuses and won't fix it properly. I have had 4 other companies come out and they all saw the wood was installed incorrectly.

Response from W Brothers Roofing Inc
W. Brothers Roofing did do a complete tear-off and re-roofing job at the Davis residence in 2006. When we did the job we did encounter some bad plywood on the backside of the home. We inspected the plywood and noticed that it was warped and bubbling. This is typically a signed of bad ventilation or moisture in the attic so we informed the homeowner of this issue. The cost to replace the plywood was $45 per 4x8 sheet which the homeowner completely expected. We explained to the homeowner at this point that they had more than a roofing issue and that they should look into this problem. The rest of the job went as planned and we completed the project that day. W. Brothers Roofing was then called back out to the Davis home in 2007 to look at some warping issues they had on the back side of their roof. The issues were in the same spot we had replaced the plywood and within one years time the plywood had already started to buckle. W. Brothers Roofing once again explained to the homeowner the importance of good ventilation/insulation. The plywood was already secured properly and the plywood nails were all in the rafters. The exposed nails that the homeowners sees are from the 1.25" roofing nails that hold the shingles down. The nail heads at this time were rusty which confirms our statement about the moisture problem they are having. The only way nail heads could get rusty that fast is from condensation in the winter. The moist air condenses on the nail head when it is could out and then freezes. When the temperatures warms up the frost melts causing the nails to rust but also this process causes the plywood to retain moisture. The moist plywood then dries out in the spring/summer and causes the plywood to buckle. We wanted to work with homeowner to make them happy so we did replace wood at this point and advised them to address the other issues so that this wasn't a problem again in the future. W. Brothers Roofing was contacted again regarding the plywood in the same area and once again we went out to the member's home. The same thing was happening and we noticed that is a common thing in their area. My project manager even talked with a homeowner that lived on the same street as the member and he said that he had to make changes in is home fix the issues he had on his roof. I gave the homeowner a few websites he could use to research the problem he was having and at this point I thought that is what he was doing. The homeowner needs to make sure that his soffit vents are clear, that his insulation is keeping moist air out of the attic, that is crawl space vents are open (not closed and blocked with insulation) and that he doesn't run a humidifier to much or to high in the winter. We have always responded to any issue in a timely manner and we always want our customers to be happy that they have used our company. We do hundreds of roofs every year and replacing bad plywood is standard procedure for our company. W. Brothers Roofing has made many recommendations to the homeowner but some things are out of our control. We take pride in our workmanship and have many awards from Angie's List to show for this.

I began by researching various top rated contractors on Angie's List. I call three and received prompt and courteous responses from all three. I selected W. Brothers Roofing for a variety of reasons including the fact they have re-roofed a number of houses in the neighborhood. Of the three estimates W. Brothers was right in the middle: High estimate was $16,000; W.Brothers $13,000 and the low estimate was $9,600. John Wentz came to our home at the promised time and conducted a thorough inspection. He took his time and did not leave until he had thoroughly explained the estimate, the standard services, what exactly to expect and the timeline. The other two companies were not as thorough. The high estimate did a thorough inspection but took over week to get the written estimate back to me. The low estimate did a less thorough inspection and took about 3 minutes to write up the estimate; then left it in the door without any explanation. In any event, John Wentz of W.Brothers Roofing was hired to do the job. He made arrangements to pick up the signed contract and deposit. When he picked up the signed contract he reviewed all of the details and arrangements again with us including making arrangements for the building permit. At the same time, he walked around the house making note of all of the landscaping, lower level windows and air conditioner. He explained this was necessary because he wanted to send sufficient coverings to provide proper protection for everything. We confirmed a start date of 9-9-09 for the re-roofing job and Mr. Wentz indicated he would be at the house at 8:15 a.m. on 9-8-09 to make sure the dumpster and all of the materials were delivered. Mr. Wentz also indicated that his father and/or their senior foreman would be at the house at all times while the work was in process. We found this to be very important. At 8:15 on 9-8-09 Mr. Wentz arrived, at 8:30 a.m. the dumpster was delivered by Waste Management; it was huge. The driver very carefully backed in the driveway without any incident and placed the dumpster on three sheets of plywood and 2x12's so a not to damage the driveway. At 8:45 am a semi arrived with the building materials. They were covered in plastic and secured to pallets which were placed on the driveway without incident. Mr. Wentz said the crew would arrive between 7:15 and 7:30 the next morning and true to his word, by 7:30 a.m. all 14 members of his company had arrived including Mr. Wentz' father. They began by covering the perimeter of the house with tarps and placed plywood tents over the planting beds, across the garage doors, lower level windows, front door and AC unit. I offered to move all of the deck furniture, but the supervisor said the crew would handle and they did again covering the deck with a heavy tarp. They began peeling off all of the old roofing, roof vents and disassembling the skylights at 8:30 and had completely stripped the roof by 11:00. During this time they also installed the iceguard sheeting and installed the new bathroom fan vents. The roofing had also begun. The crew took a 45 minute lunch break from 12:00 noon to 12:45 and went right back to work Their master carpenter arrived about 12:30 and began inspecting the skylights. He proceeded to seal and reflash the skylights (5 in total) and he also worked on the chimney flashing. The crew was like an army moving new roofing shingles up to the installers; back and forth an thousand times. By 5:00 p.m. the crew was using leaf blowers to move all of the debris out of the gutters. At 5:15 pm the master carpenter finished the last skylight and inspected the new flashing around the chimney. At the same time the crew was picking all of the debris up and even used a magnet sweeper to pick up all of the nails and staples that had landed iin the yard, flower beds, sidewalk and driveway. By 6:00 p.m. the landscaping covers had been removed, trucks were packed and the roof was complete. With the exception of the dumpster in the driveway, you have never know there were 14 people working on the house that day. Before he left, Mr. Wentz said the dumpster would be picked up by 11:00 a.m. the next morning...it was actually picked up at 10:45 a.m. without any problem and one of the W.Brothers Roofing stopped by at noon to pick up the wood that had been placed on the driveway under the dumpster. Mr. Wentz said the inspector would be out the following Monday, which he was and dropped off the completion certificate. The end result is a great looking roof and peace of mind knowing we received top quality service and craftsmanship at a fair and reasonable price.
Description of Work: Complete re-roofing job including total tear-off, removal and eliminate builder installed roof vents, installation of proper bathroom fan vents, install ice-guard per building code, install ridge vent system, apply GAF 30year profiled roofing, re-flash all skylights and around chimney. Total 45 squares of roofing. Removal of all debris. Arrange for all building permits and final city inspection.

I hired them based on the positive comments left on their Angie's list rating. Besides feeling like the guy knew what he was talking about, they also said they could complete the day in one day. When we ran into problems in the winter, we learned that we should have put a ice and water shield behind the gutter, but they never suggested it at the time. They did come out and basically stated that the problem was not based on their work. When we hired the independent roofer, he sent pictures and showed visible problems to the company such as heating cables crossing over each other. The company still have not done anything to resolve the problem. This company ended up not being the company I thought they would be. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: I hired this company to put on a new roof in the Spring and found out later in the winter that it started to leak. The company basically said it was the weather's fault; to much snow. We hired a independent roofer to take a look at it, and he pointed out several problem spots.

Came out and provided estimate same day I called. We had someone in our development attempt to arrange a group buy in an attempt to reduce our costs. None of the roofers were on Angie's list which made me a little nervous. I contacted W Brothers because they were local and highly recommended by Angie's list. I contracted with them for these reasons plus there were not only less expensive but more responsive. My wife was particular about color so W Brothers returned twice to provide different color samples and followed up with addresses of people who had purchased that particular color so we could visit and see what they actually looked like. Samples included three different manufacturers. Install was scheduled for about a week after we signed contract. Almost everything went like we were told including what would happen with a rain delay. Shingles were delivered on Monday, boards to place under trash container were delivered that same day and trash container on Tuesday. Install was scheduled for Wednesday but major rainstorm was forecasted and we received call from W Brothers that install would be delayed one day. Crew arrived on Thursday about 7 am and they were finished about 1 pm. Crew worked hard and they were very professional about everything. I checked them out a number of times about how they were proceeding and developed confidence that they were good at what they were doing. Cleaned up nicely and the trash container was picked up on Saturday.

W-Brother's quote was the middle one for the three companies we got quotes from. We decided to go with them because they guaranteed their work for 10 years and they indicated they would have no trouble getting it done in one day. On the appointed day, the crew of 6-7 arrived by 7:30 a.m. They tore off the old roof, put on the new one, and cleaned up. They were gone by 6 p.m. Our roof looks much better now! The management was professional and we were able to schedule the work pretty quickly. I was impressed by how fast they got the roof replaced on the day of the work! Overall, I'm very satisfied.
Description of Work: W-Brothers provided a complete tear-off and roof replacement for our home.

They were good and their estimate was best compared to two other companies I had looked at. They lived up to my expectations and came on time. They explained different options of roofs I could have and gave me an insight of the whole process. They informed me how soon the work would be done, when the things would be delivered on my driveway and told me I could call them for clarifying doubts anytime. They gave me a quote on Good Friday and because it was Easter weekend I told them to do it later. They came the next day after Easter and completed the work in a day.
Description of Work: They did the tear off and installed a new roofing for me.
