I purchased an $80 furnace cleaning and inspection at an empty house I am selling. The technician was scheduled and I could not be there during the work.
The technician called me while working on it and told me my heat exchanger was cracked, that the furnace was really old, and that I needed a new furnace. I asked for a quote for both a new furnace and for repair/replacement of the heat exchanger. I was assured that I would get the information quickly. The technician did not have a new air filter for my furnace, and did not provide one - as I was told they do as part of the cleaning.
While waiting for the quotes, I hired a second provider to come in and look at the furnace without telling them anything about the prior inspection.
Why is ALLIED not honest?
FIRST - the second contractor (25 years in business) told me that the furnace was filthy, It had not been cleaned or serviced in any way before they looked at it.
SECOND - they put a camera up into the unit and inspected the heat exchanger also. They found no sign of problems, and did not recommend replacing the heat exchanger - although some other minor work needed to be done.
FINALLY - I called ALLIED to ask them why their technician told me that i needed a new furnace when it clearly needed only minor repairs. Their response? "All our technicians are certified and we stand behind our diagnosis". Basically if you have an old furnace they are going to make up a story that you need a new one. They would not even explain why the unit had not been cleaned prior to inspection. How can you do a thorough inspection of a filthy furnace?
ALLIED never completed the work i paid for, and then never provided me with any documentation or follow-up. Not even a receipt or inspection report. DISHONEST.
"We are confident in our technician's diagnosis. As is our policy, in the event we have not proven to your complete satisfaction that the crack (or hole) exist, we will return at your convenience, with no additional cost to you, and show you the defect. When we return we will show you, your representative, the gas company, or fire department personnel exactly where the crack or hole exists. At that time, if no hole or crack can be identified we will refund you 300% of your original cost: i.e. $79.00 = $237.00 Refund. Furnace inspection and cleaning is straightforward but I appreciate Anthony's professionalism and there was no upselling like other providers I've used.

The unit was damaged initially and didn't work / Also it wasn't set or anchored properly - however Allied responded and fixed the problems promptly
