I had only compared two companies, but the other company's estimate was about 3 times the cost. However, I don't know if the other company was quoting for a rigid duct, which certainly would have increased the price. After I saw Allied's work, I realized that they gave me a flexible duct. Rigid ducts are better in general, because fewer bends and smoother walls mean less air resistance. But in my situation there were lots of other stuff in the floorspace to work around, so I am fine with the flexible duct, I am just saying that it's a possible reason why the other quote might have been so much higher.
Description of Work: Install a new heating duct into a new construction bathroom, where the ceiling below was entirely open for full access (no drywall work involved).

They were very courteous, professional and performed a furnace cleaning ( that I should have had done a while ago) and with a coupon from Angie's list, the total bill was a very pleasant surprise. A small issue remained after the tech left but the response was very quick and problem was resolved the same day. We are now very happy and most importantly, warm!
Description of Work: Initially, furnace was not working at capacity, it would start then stop. Allied was able to come out the next morning and diagnose a sensor issue that was resolvable with a thorough cleaning.

Did not get an A because my initial call to set up an appointment using Angie's coupon left the receptionist bewildered. She did not know they were part of the program and was a bit rude like I had the problem. When the tech got out here he was very apologetic and said he would look into it and did nice work.

We had left a non-emergency message with Allied on Friday night and received a call back first thing Saturday morning. They scheduled a technician for that morning, and called prior to his arrival. He listened to our explanation of how the furnace and blower had been working (or not working), then looked at the furnace and blower. His testing of the capaciter showed that it was barely working, and he changed it out. The price was lower than we had anticipated (how often can you say that!), and the problem was fixed before noon. Overall, we're very happy with Allied, and warm again. We'll be signing up for their furnace/air conditioner maintenance program as well.

Our furnace went out Christmas evening. While I felt terrible calling, I didn't want our water pipes to freeze. Their repairman came right over and fixed the problem quickly. Living in Grayslake for 20+ years we have used other HVAC companies in town and they are no where near as competent and professional as Allied. When it came time to replace our no-name furnace I went with Allied and I've been very happy. These guys deliver, no muss, no fuss, done right the first time. Highly recommended!!

Ordered the service through Angies list, they did not call back in allotted time so I called them to schedule appointment. The service guy, who wasn't very professional, said we needed a capacitor, which he sold to me for $122. My husband, an electrical engineer, said the old part looked fine and we weren't having any problems, so I shouldn't have purchased it. $79 for service, and $122 for the capacitor.

One water heater leaking - decided to replace both as they were same age - wanted pans underneath and individual control valves to isolate each heater if a leak should arrive in future - after length discussion, they obliged to provide this type of install and quoted a price. Day before install, I got an e-mail stating they will be bringing 40gal heaters and not 50gal heaters I requested - fixed before arrival after calling them but they brought wrong pans and had to go out for an hour to get the right size pans. The water shutoff stem broke and so they had to turn off main and replace - it was great they were able to do that at the conclusion of the day. That evening as I was checking out the job, I noted a leak spraying from a solder joint out 2-3 ft from the unit - some hit the unit and went into the catch pans but was not draining through the installed PVC pipe to sump pit in utility room. Why? The installers did not catch the fact that the floor slopes downward from sump to water heaters - it's an old house and not all is perfect - they should have raised the pans and heater to make sure pans will drain - provided any future leak is limited to about 2 gals, we're good to go. I called office the next day, Saturday, and they promptly sent someone out to fix it but that blew my Saturday morning. I thought about writing a review but after a few days of reflection, I was happy to have working water heaters with no leaks. Also, I was in the market for a new furnace/AC system and was leaning toward them to install. Based on this, I took my business elsewhere and decided that was punishment enough. This fall/winter, as the heating systems cranked up, I noted the humidifiers were not working. Turns out, the saddle valves were put into position on the copper water inlets to the water heater but they did not puncture the lines with the self piercing valves - thus, no water was getting to the humidifiers. When you contract something out, you expect to have a reduction in problems and a simplification of your life. In this case, not so much.

Fantastic. I simply can't recommend Allied enough, the sales and installation teams are outstanding - Kevin went into great detail to ensure that he fully understood our needs and provided 3 options that blew the competition out of the water on cost and quality. Mark (who installed the furnace) was friendly, punctual, and did an outstanding job - other than the new and silent supply of heat upstairs, you wouldn't even know he'd been in the house !

We contacted Allied Air Conditioning and Heating in Palatine, IL. because our annual inspection revealed cracks in our heat exchanger, which is dangerous for leaking carbon monoxide. Patrick was out the next day with a very comprehensive quote for us giving us many different options. Not once did he try to force us into a more expensive unit, but listened to our needs and made recommendations accordingly. We signed the contract on a Tuesday and by Thursday our new furnace was installed expertly by Pete and Billy. Everything was clean and efficient and Pete did an awesome job of explaining the new touch pad (thermostat) and answering all our questions. We would highly recommend Allied and are most happy with our new furnace.

We came home and instantly realized our AC was broken, as the house was 15 degrees higher than it was set to be, and the vents were blowing HOT air. I called Allied first thing in the morning and they scheduled someone for a four hour window that afternoon. The employee was prompt and figured out the problem in minutes, he had been to our home before and remembered us too. He checked to make sure there weren't any other issues, removed a mouse nest that was on our unit's electricity wires and replaced the capacitor, which had failed. He was fast, knowledgeable and friendly. Our only complaint was that we had to pay a 'diagnostic' call fee of $95 on top of the repair and parts replacement, but its an AC company in the dead of summer and they came same day, so I'm not too upset. Hubby agrees now that we should do the annual maintenance before we have issues! Highly recommend!

Diagnosed and replaced faulty part on central air compressor. Had the unit up and running quickly. Once running, evaluated temperature and pressure. I called Allied about 8:00AM on Monday morning and their serviceman was out at the house by 2:00pm. Ryan, was prompt, professional and quickly located the problem. Their response amazed me. It was quite a hot weekend and to have service on my unit on the same day was wonderful. The cost of service and parts was reasonable. I definitely would use them again and will contact them when it is time for replacing the unit.

During the initial visit, the representative Lon S. reviewed the situation, investigated alternative solutions, and determined that the only way to have the central AC unit cool this room properly would be to reroute all of the duct work that fed the room, or to install a duct blower under the dining room floor that would inevitably be very loud and only moderately successful. We also had a secondary problem with a lower-level room that had a similar, but much less severe, issue with ineffective cooling and heating. We decided that a ductless mini-split system (a quiet slimline air condenser and fan unit mounted on the wall, and a compressor unit mounted on the ground outside the house) would be the most effective solution. We had some familiarity with this type of unit when we lived in Europe. Lon prepared a quote for three different configurations (single-room AC only, single-room AC and heat pump, and dual-room AC and heat pump that would serve both rooms). The quote was clearly stated, with incremental cost of stepping up to option 2 or 3. In the end, we decided to go with the first solution (both for cost and convenience purpose), as the other room was much less important and we could manage any heating issues much more cost-effectively with a simple space heater if necessary. The installation took 1 working day with a crew of 2 technicians. They laid drop sheets throughout the house where they needed access, wore shoe covers, and were very respectful of our home. They ran into a challenge finding a clean route for the electrical supply lines, as there was an obstruction in the finished basement that had to be worked around. The technicians proposed a solution that involved cutting a small access hole in the basement drywall above the electrical panel, and covered the resulting hole with an unobtrusive air return grate cover that matched the other fixtures in the basement. The unit itself is completely as advertised, extremely quiet and very effective. Couldn't be more pleased. I must also say that the quote given was much lower than a competing quote received from another local supplier (also sourced via Angie's List), and while price definitely influenced our decision to go with Allied, but it was the way in which Lon S. approached the problem and presented various solutions that sealed the deal. We were billed exactly the amount on the quote. Based on research on the delivered cost of the same unit (excluding supply lines, labor and other needed parts) from various online suppliers, we believe the overall installed price we paid was very fair.
Description of Work: Provided and installed a Mitsubishi mini-split AC unit in an upstairs office to solve a cooling "trouble spot" in our house (furthest room from the central furnace/AC blower, poorly routed ductwork, southern exposure, second floor office = hot spot in the house).
