Services we offer

We have specialized in Window & Door Replacement for more than 30 years. We serve homeowners in the Chicago northern and north shore suburbs and the surrounding towns and villages. Furnish and neatly install insulating windows, and attic insulation. We select quality suppliers because they manufacture and distribute their products in the Chicago area. That’s important to us because if anything is needed, as opposed to distributors, entry doors, exterior sidings, they can readily serve us and take care of whatever might come up as quickly as possible. And because we buy directly from the manufacturers, tuckpointing, we also get the best pricing possible.

Went great.  Kevin McCann came out for the estimate and gave us a very clear overview of the various window options.  Price was right around the other estimates we'd gotten.  Installation went smoothly.  We would use them again.

They did a really good job with our windows. We live in a historic home and the windows and screens were all historically correct and done perfectly, we were very impressed with that. They also do siding and gutters, so this spring we called them for a siding issue. The crew that originally did our windows is no longer there, and instead, the president for the company actually came out to look at our siding and said it wasn’t a big enough job for them to do.  So, if you have a large project, they will do a great job for you.

They were very professional and gave an excellent quote. They came back a couple time to help choose the color and glass options. They had to reframe the new door and the installation was excellent. They had a lot of extra work because this is an older home. I was very pleased.

They ignored permitting issues in our neighborhood, which they knew about, and neglected to tell us about restrictions we needed to consider. The salesman was misleading when responding to my questions.

My experience with McCann Window & Exteriors was absolutely phenomenal! Kevin McCann came out to discuss our project and offered several options. We were under a tight timeline and he was fantastic about making sure we were taken care of. His installation crew was amazing to watch - they took time to do the job right and were a pleasure to work with. I could not be happier - it was a great experience and I will use them again when we replace the rest of the windows in our house.
Their service and quality set the standard that other companies should strive for.

The first meeting with Kevin was great.  He was prompt, polite, thorough and made me feel very comfortable.  He told me that fiberglass doors are approximately $1,000 a piece and storm doors were approx. $500 a piece...since I was getting three doors and two storm doors, I thought my final quote would be apprx. $4,500.  I believe we met on a Tues. or Wed, and he assured me I would be getting his quote by Friday of that same week.  I never heard from him until the following Tuesday when he called to apologize for not getting me the quote sooner, and I was very understanding because I know these things can happen.  During that call, he assured me that I would be getting a quote by the end of the week.  Well, I did not hear from him by the end of the week.  That Saturday I left for vacation, and while I was away, I got an email from him saying "Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the quote, we look forward to doing business with you".  I thought that was odd seeing as how I still hadn't gotten the quote.  I didn't respond because at this point I had planned on backing out, but then he called and asked if I had any questions regarding the quote, at which point I said, "Kevin, I never got the quote".  He apologized and said he would get it right out to me, which he did.  Kevin was such a nice guy that I decided to give him a change and go with their company -- so stupid on my part, especially since the final price he quoted me was $1,000 more than the approximation.  He then set up a noon appt. with me the next day to have me sign paperwork -- he didn't show, and didn't call until 12:30 to say he was running late and could we do it later in the afternoon, and once again I obliged and said we could meet at 4pm.  Naturally, he was late again -- and once again, I should have backed out -- but we needed the doors and I thought I had come this far so lets just do it.  I signed the contract and give him a check for half the total amount.  I also set up an appointment with his installer to come out and take another measurement for noon on the following Monday.  On Monday, I had a weird feeling so I called Kevin to make sure his installer was coming out to measure, and Kevin said "Sorry, refresh my memory, we had an appointment for what?"  At this point I was furious -- and sure enough, he called the installer who didn't even have me on the books.  Again, don't know why, but I allowed the installer to come the next day, only after having a stern conversation with Kevin.  In that conversation, I said "if this is too small a job or if you don't want the job, just let me know" and he assured me he wanted to do everything he could to "right the situation".  The next day, the installer came and measure, and I thought that FINALLY we were on the right track.  At this point, Kevin said it would be approx. 4-6 weeks to get the doors in.  Three weeks later I get a call from Kevin who tells me that they cannot find two of the doors I ordered anywhere, and he said that he didn't think they made that style in fiberglass anymore.  I asked him why I was just learning about this now and also asked him how he was able to give me a quote on two doors that didn't exist.  He explained that he based it on previous orders they had done & said he didn't think it would be a problem to get the doors.  He then asked me to look at other styles to see if there was anything else I liked.  I took a look, and at that point just didn't see anything I loved and to be honest, just wanted all of this to be over.  So, I told Kevin that I just wanted to get the one door and call it a day...I also asked him for a quote on that door and asked him what my refund would be (since I had already given him a check for approx. $2600).  He never emailed me back, and when I called a few days later, he said they had already emailed the quote -- I said, "No you didn't" -- he "double checked" and sure enough, it was "his mistake, the email had never gone out".  When I got the quote, I was floored because for one door and one storm door, it was over $2,000!  At that point, I just bailed on the whole deal and I will give Kevin credit because he promised to return my deposit, and he did follow through in a timely manner.  However, over all, this experience was nothing but a HUGE WASTE OF MY TIME!!!!  I would NEVER recommend this company because although Kevin is a nice guy, he seems unorganized and flakey.

It was a damp, cold day.  It had rained most of the night and more rain was forecast for the day.   The installers arrived promptly.  Because so much time elapsed from when I originally ordered the doors, I asked that before they ripped out the old door, they make sure the doors were opening the correct way.  They checked and so we were good to go.   They worked quickly and managed to take out the old doors and get the new entry door up with a minimum amount of cold air coming into the house for which I was grateful. After the storm door was hung, they offered to cover the red framing of the entry door with  a cream to match, but I opted to have it remain the way it was.  I actually thought it made the doorbell easier to see. I told the installer about the mail slot.  He took a look at it and was able to drill a screw in it to keep the top from dropping down. We went over the doors opening and closing.  He showed me how the screen worked on the storm door.  The tension rod for the storm door was placed at the very bottom of the door.  He said there was no room to put it at the top.  Plus, if you needed to fix it to stay open, it would be hard to reach at the top of the storm door. The lock on the entry door was supposed to be keyed the same as the door that was installed in July and it was not. So, I completed the survey indicating my dissatisfaction with the fact that the locks were not keyed the same. Later the same day, I received a call from Dave about that issue.  He recalled the issue with the door in July.  He acknowledged that someone should have told me right away that the door could not be keyed to match the old lock.  I said I didn't worry about it because I decided to order rear entry door.  I thought then the locks could be keyed the same.  He asked me if I had gotten a locksmith to key the locks the same and I told him I had not.  He said, let him see what he could do about it and he would call me back. He called back later and asked me to mail a key to the front entry door installed in July  to them or the manufacturer and they would get the locks keyed the same.  I said that would only leave me with one key.  He said well go and have a key made and charge them the 50 cents.  I said, if I have to go and have a key made to mail to you, I will just call a locksmith and have the locks keyed the same.  He said he was trying to help, I said I appreciated what he was saying, but having to get a key made and mailing it, I would rather wait until it's a little warmer, call a locksmith and take of the issue.  He said okay.  My overall rating is based on the following:  1. It took an inordinate amount of time to receive the two doors I ordered. I ordered them 9/18/12.  They were installed 1/30/13.  I understand that a door was damaged and had to be replaced.  However, what happened to a telephone call once 45 days, certainly 60 days elapsed from the date of the order.  Why did I need to send an email to follow up about the doors. To be able to schedule an install two days after my email, it would seem that the doors were ready, but they simply forgot about the order. 2. Having the locks keyed the same.  The first time, I understand it was not possible, but given the fact that the request could not be fulfilled the first time, why did not someone go the extra mile to make sure that the customer's request was honored this time.  I ordered the same door, same paint job, the same type of dead bolt lock, just no peep hole or mail slot. 3. As I said I ordered the same type of dead bolt lock. One that opens a door with a key from the inside as well as the outside. This is the type of lock on the entry door that was installed in July 2012 by this company.  That is not what I got.  I looked at the order.  The order for the second entry door reads the same as the one for the first entry door.  I don't understand why I didn't get the type of lock I ordered. While installers did a great job (they finished just as it began to rain hard again), I feel the customer service was lacking starting with 45 days after my order for the doors was placed.  If there was going to be a delay on the install beyond 60 days, someone should have called me.

The installer and his crew arrived at the scheduled time. It was an extremely hot day.  The heat index climbed to over 100 degrees through the day.
I showed the installer where the door was to go and where the windows were to be installed (The 3rd floor of a townhouse with a west view and no shade.) When I showed the installer the windows, I mentioned that this was a full tear out.  That meant all of the existing wood framing needed to be removed and new framing put in.  He thought they were just suppose to sit the window on top of the existing framing.  He called and received the news that in fact, it is a full tear out.  He was not a happy man.  (He was not unprofessional with me, but his crew caught a lot of his frustration.)  He had to go and purchase wood for framing each of the 6 windows.  The measurement of one of the windows was slightly off.  The brick had to be shaved ever so slightly.  He had the company call me to tell me this needed to be done.
After the windows were just about finished, the installation of the door began.  Everything was proceeding nicely it seemed until they got ready to put the storm door back on.  It would not close when the new front door was closed.  The door knobs were in the same spot.  The installer wanted to leave the storm door off.  That was not an acceptable solution for me.  Apparently he called the company and received a suggested solution.  They raised the storm door.  They added a piece to the bottom of the door to keep air out and make it flush again.  It was a nice piece of patching.  If you did not know there was a piece at the bottom, you would not be able to tell.
It was a long exhausting hot day.  They finished at 6 pm.  After the installer went over how everything worked, he was finally able to smile and wish me a good day.  I offered him the same.  He said, what I already knew, "I was not prepared for the full cut out of those windows".
Two items that were not related to the install were issues for me and the reasons for my "B" Quality rating.  First the lock on the front door was to be keyed the same as the lock on the door being replaced.  I provided  the key number.  That did not happen.  After the company contacted the builder of the door, they learned that the new lock could not be keyed the same as the old lock.  They offered to try to make things right so I would not have so many keys.  I told them that I liked the front door so much that I would probably order a new back door and then the locks for those doors could be keyed the same.
The second issue was the mail slot.  The outside flap that the postman would use did not open without some difficulty.  I thought it was stiff.   One day I caught up with the postman and asked him why he didn't drop the mail through the door, and he said that the slot wouldn't open.  Sure enough, the top on the inside had dropped down and kept the outside flap from opening. I tried taking the screws out, but the frame was sealed on the door.  So, I got some duct tape and used it to try and keep the top from dropping down so the flap would open.  Every couple of days I had to press it .

We had two windows replaced.  Kevin does a great job communicating and following up.  On the day of installation, we had a small window of time available.  Kevin's crew got there right on time, and got the job done on schedule. We definately recommend McCann Windows for your window replacements.

We had a great experience with McCann. Kevin was extremely responsive and a great listener. He understood what we were looking to do and helped us understand the different prices of the different window styles. He made sure we understood what we were getting and that it met our needs. I also really liked that they had a handy man that could come out and get the rest of our windows to be functional, so we didn't have to hire a completely different company.
They did a great job and we're really happy with our windows. This process was expensive, but windows are not cheap but McCann was a great company to work with.

The entire experience from their initial call back asking for more detail about the job I wanted done to the sealing caulk making the new doors air tight, McCann did an excellent job.  The cost of a major reconstruction like this is high, but that should not be confused with McCann being expensive--it just costs a lot for windows and doors.
The salesperson who came to the house was knowledgeable, thorough and very responsive.  The windows/doors came in a full 2 weeks earlier than expected and they installed them on a Saturday which worked perfectly with my schedule.  The whole install took just one day as the workers worked diligently from the moment they arrived.  They cleaned up the work area as they went along and at the end it looked as if they were never there.
The final install looks fantastic--better than I had hoped.

The McCann guys were great - they came in and explained the process, and did a good job of advising us on the right kinds of doors and windows for us.  We chose vinyl awning windows in the basement, and Pella replacement windows for the bedrooms.  During the installation, the team sealed the house so that debris and paint chips would not be transported elsewhere, and made quick work of all the replacements.  Cleanup was done well.  Great job guys!

Everything went smoothly, from the initial contact to the final installation. I liked Todd, who came over to look at the windows and gave me an estimate. He answered lots of questions from me helpfully and in good humor. After we ordered the windows it took about a month and half before they were installed. The guys who installed them worked from morning to after dark, and managed to get everything done in one day. They did a great job cleaning up after themselves and left everything spotless. There was a problem with one of the casement handles, and they needed to order another one. That came a few weeks later.

Initially the wrong color windows were made.  It delayed the install date by about a week or two, but I wasn't in a rush to get them installed anyway.  The installers were prompt, efficient, and clean.  The windows look great.  After they left, I had noticed that one side where the aluminum cap meets the siding pulled away from the caulking.  I notified them and they came back promptly to recaulk the gap.
