It was very easy from appointment set up to installation to the tutorial on how to use the generator and the phone app. They had to pipe into our natural gas supply and run some pipe thru our garage to the back yard where the generator sits. The work was clean and the installation was great. Aside from the piping you would not have known they were here. I'd definitely use this company again based on this experience. Great value, professionalism and service.

Penco Electric is fantastic. We needed a whole home generator and we are so glad we chose them to install it. We got multiple bids and they were the most competitive in addition to their exceptional customer service. The installation was excellent and they went above and beyond to ensure that everything was done at 110%. During installation there were a couple minor issues, due to my house and no fault of theirs, and they went out of their way to make sure everything was done correctly even though it cost them some additional time and expense. I would highly recommend Pence Electric for anyone who needs a generator or generator service.

I had the worst customer service experience with Penco. Use another company. There are many options. The Penco owner, Paul, was nice while we were purchasing a full-house generator (because it is a large-ticket item that makes them a lot of money), but when it comes to customer service, he takes the side of rude, confrontational employees over the customer. We had two gas leaks after our generator was installed and reinstalled by Penco. The first, they admitted. It was their fault, and they supposedly fixed it. However, I continued to periodically smell gas from that location. I finally called, and one of their employees came out and could not see a leak but smelled a faint gas smell, and he told me to call Nicor to check. Nicor found a leak at the generator line underground. Penco then sent the same guy who fixed the first leak was back out. He said he couldn’t find anything, but miraculously after he spent a couple of hours at the generator, the leak was gone (but he says he didn’t do anything but dig a hole). Nicor came back and confirmed there was now no leak. But the Penco technician said the leak was never there and said he didn’t do anything to the line. He then accused me of not knowing what gas smells like … even though Nicor confirmed there was a leak. Perhaps he was covering up a mistake he made the first time he came to fix the first leak and wanted to correct it and make it look like it was never there, or maybe whatever he did while digging the hole fixed the connection, I don’t know. But I do know he lied and twisted the words of the Nicor employee right in front of me as he spoke to the Penco owner on the phone. But when I called the owner to tell him this, he was extremely defensive and rude rather than being apologetic and customer-focused. This is unacceptable. There are so many other companies who do this work, there’s zero reason to suffer through this kind of treatment with Penco.

Received several bids for purchase and installation of a whole house back up generator. I found Penco Electric to be extremely professional and friendly from home visit when evaluation of our needs and our concerns were addressed and options provided; to installation of the home back up generator; to follow up questions I had several weeks after installation. I requested a whole house surge protector be installed at the time of the generator. The exterior and interior work areas following installation were left very clean. So pleased with Penco Electric's professionalism, I am having them return for annual check up/tune up of the back up generator. Absolutely no regrets in purchasing our home back up generator from Penco Elecric; having them install the equipment; and performing checkups.

I made a phone call a few months ago just to ask how the process worked. I was given great information. I called back to get a bid on doing the project after I knew roughly how much money to save up from the previous contact. I secured a total of 4 bids and chose Penco for the following reasons - The estimator was very knowledgeable and gave great information - The bid was the lowest - The installers were professional It was a good experience and I feel I got what I paid for. I would use them again and tell others to do the same.

Our generator had not been serviced in a while and we were unsure who installed it originally (we moved into the house within the past year). After checking Angie's List and calling around, Penco seemed to be the best option. They showed up on time and did a great job of servicing the generator and explaining how to use it. I would definitely recommend them.

Every interaction with them has been excellent. I liked their willingness to understand my issues and find a solution for me.

I made a list of about 10 electrical contractors who install generators and also got top marks on Angie's List and contacted four of them. One never returned my call. Two others made brief, superficial visits and both moaned and groaned about how difficult the installation would be. They never submitted bids. (Because of city restrictions, the only practical place to put the generator was in my backyard next to the detached garage, requiring about 30-40 feet of trenching from the house to the garage for the gas and electrical lines.) In contrast, the Penco sales rep, Marion, took the time to listen to my needs and provide practical suggestions and options. When I had more questions, she was quick to respond and came back for a second visit to go over things in more detail. No pressure, no overpromises, no sales hype. I seldom proceed when I have just one bid in hand, but I was impressed with Marion's knowledge and professionalism and based on my research I had a rough idea of the cost of a typical installation; Penco's price was within the range I was expecting. Moreover, Penco's price for the additional trench work seemed fair and reasonable. Finally, their price for the generator I selected was several hundred dollars less than the cost for the same generator on Amazon. For these, reasons I rated Penco "A" for price. Generator installation proceeded smoothly. The crew arrived first thing on the morning of the day scheduled and they had the generator installed and up and running by early evening. I was pleased and somewhat surprised too because the installation was a much more complicated process than I was expecting. The crew was friendly, well-organized, and efficient. They kept me informed about what was being done throughout the course of the day. The owner, Paul, stopped by at least twice to check on things. When the job was done, they cleaned everything up both inside and out, filled the trench and leveled it off. (I planted grass seed and a few weeks later my lawn looked like it had never been disturbed.) When the city inspector came to approve the work, he pronounced the installation "perfect" and told me Penco always gets it right. A great company, a positive experience, I highly recommend them!

From the first phone call about setting up a appointmet to the final installation it was such a pleasent experience.Set up appointment for 830 saturday morning on july 2 and they were right on time. Eveything was explained with great detail and my options were given.Very pleasent and professional.Was told a estimate would be sent to my email withen an hour and it was sent in 40 minutes.We agreed gave them our down payment job was set up for the 25 at 8am.Installers showed up right on time they very nice very friendly and as work progressed they kept me informed they were great.When install was complete they tested it and explained how i could do certain things like manual shut off and things like that.They cleaned up couldnt tell they were even there except for the generator being there.All around from the first phone call to the completion of the job they were awesome.

I never have trouble getting ahold of them. The lady who gave me the estimate was very knowledgable and answered my questions. They are always on time and call me back promptly.

The whole process went extremely well. Had scheduled a consult/estimate appointment with Paul(owner) for 630am on a weekday, and Paul was at our door @625am. He was thorough courteous and knowledgeable. On day of installation, crew showed up on time---everything about them and the job they did was neat, clean and professional.........as for the quality of the work, it was as good or better than anything we've done in the past........there's a considerable amount of time and work involved when installing a whole house generator(so I learned)--I think the crew were there from @ 8:30am-5:30pm.....the finished product looked like lt was installed by a team of German engineers----it was easy to tell that these guys work with precision,care, and take pride in their work and rightly so!I would not hesitate to recommend Paul and his company.........they may not be the cheapest estimate that you'll get, but the pricing is not unreasonable........they're professional, very good at what they do, and sometimes, when striving to get a great "value", more goes into it than just price--like being able to sleep at night!

He was very informative and was able to give a general estimate over the telephone after answering several questions. This was particularly convenient as I was out of state on vacation. His questions are what I exected and were appropriate for the job being quoted. I knew what I wanted and feel confident that his questions were adequate to give a quote over the telephone without a visual inspection of the work-site.

When they came out, they said that the installation of the generator was all wrong. I told them that the generator had been working for a year. All of a sudden something changed and it's not working. He replaced the part, and the generator would literally fire up in two seconds when it was going to do its job. Over the last 3-4 weeks, it's failing its tests again. I have to get back in touch with them. They came out here and their initial thought process to trouble shoot the issue was to tell me that the installation was wrong, and not give me any solid proof to go on that my generator was connected improperly. They came before the end of the parts and labor warranty. They did nothing. They basically charged me to come out here and look at my generator, and tell me that it was installed wrong and not troubleshoot the problem to the point where it was fixed. They did not give me sufficient amount of information to ensure that I was doing what needed to be done to fix the problem. There is a reading called the column reading and it is the amount of gas pressure that we have going to the generator. Even though the column reading was enough to show gas going to the generator, their suggestions were to get a new meter and have a dedicated line run to the generator. Neither of which they could convince me or ensure would stop the problems from happening. Basically they were asking me to spend about another $1000 to troubleshoot on their behalf to determine if the problem went away when there was a new meter put in and the new installation of a dedicated line done. They never told me that there was an issue with the column. They also never told me there was an issue with any of the gas coming through the system. If I go out there and I start the generator manually, it starts every single time. We have had an instance when power had failed to the house where the generator did not start. It's failing probably right around 50%-70% of its self-tests. They did come out and replace something; I don’t remember what the part was. It did seem that the generator was running fine after that and passing its self-tests. However now within the last five weeks or so, it has stopped failing those tests on a regular basis. I have yet to call them a second time to get them out. I just wanted somebody that can come out here and do the work right. The problem with the generator company is that it trains these guys to do this work. They have companies that they deal with. There is no direct person from the generator company that could come out and troubleshoot the problem. Penco Electric was able to get the part and labor covered through the generator company. He didn't charge me the additional $90 fee for coming out to do the work; I am okay with that. With regard to professionalism, they blamed somebody else for something that they couldn’t find. There are very few places that can come out and do this kind of work, so I don’t really have much of a choice. I would not use them again in the future. There are other companies here that I am noticing are getting better ratings on the generator company's site, so I am going to call them and have them come out.

We moved into a 34 year old house about 4 months ago. The other owners had a whole house generator and we knew we needed one too - the sump goes constantly. I called about 6 companies to get quotes. The first thing that struck me about Penco - they reminded me to check my generator light even BEFORE they came out to give me a quote. I realize this just means my email was on a distribution list, but this is the sort of proactive help I know I'll need. Their quote wasn't the lowest, but they were the only company that didn't try hard to "upsell" me. They worked with me on the quote to remove things I didn't feel I needed or wanted. They were very flexible and responsive - still are. His entire staff is knowledgeable and courteous. I never felt I was being flim-flammed like with about 4 of the other companies. All my questions were answered in ways that logically made sense in terms that weren't too technical. Paul is the owner - he oversees a lot of stuff personally. People seem easy to work with - and once I paid the deposit, they took care of the permit and I had my generator in like a week. Seriously - 2 days after the permit came through I was all hooked up. The research was more painful than the install. I'll likely be calling them again for other electrical work. Highly recommend!

The first thing that impressed me was when Paul came to our house, he put on booties so he would not track dirt in the house. Edgar and Joaquin spent three days doing all the work as there many wiring issues from before. They cleaned up after themselves. Bill came to connect the system to the natural gas and showed us the system. He made sure that the system worked properly. I cannot say enough great things about Penco! Thanks to them my house is up to code, and will be the envy of the neighborhood the next time the power goes out!

From the first meeting with them, when they came to my home for the estimate, I was impressed with their professionalism and knowledge. I had spoken to 3 other contractors, and they were by far the most thorough. On the day of the install they showed up right on schedule, they were clean and when they left, the house looked like it was never disturbed. Believe me, this was no easy installation. The gas line had to be run from the other side of my home, through a finished basement with a drop ceiling in very very tight quarters. The other contractors that I interviewed didn't even want to tackle the gas line because it was so difficult. When the Nicor technician came to replace the gas meter, he commented that it was one of the best installations he had ever seen and wanted the name and number of the contractor. The generator itself was replacing an older generator that was installed on an existing concrete pad. The concrete had settled and was way out of level. The Penco guys removed the old generator and placed a new concrete pad on top of the old pad and leveled it up to perfection. They sealed up the edges to keep water and debris out and it looks perfect. My schedule is very volitale and I had to reschedule a few appointments. They were very flexible and coordinated everything including the final inspection. Their billing was accurate and my overall experience with them was excellent.

Excellent. They were fast, thorough, gave me a fair price, and great communication with the office. My neighbor who has a similar generator was so impressed he signed up with them as well.

Everything went well in this situation. The communication was good and everyone was very friendly.
