This is a follow-up review. A few years ago, we were running out of space and compared moving to adding on a room. We had a two-story front room and wanted to add a second-story bedroom. The first builder who came out for an estimate said that it would not be possible to build it without putting a support pole in the front room. Reliable was the second builder to come out and they were able to build the second-story bedroom exactly as we had envisioned it, creating supports without putting the post in the front room. They cleaned up nicely at the end of each day and kept us informed of the project steps. They took the time to show my curious young son how the equipment worked. We are very happy with the result.

We were very pleased with both projects. The quality of the work was excellent and the super kept the job on schedule and communicated with us through a centrally located log book. Their team approach ensured we received an expert looking at each facet of the job. We were also assigned a designer to ensure our colors and tiles complimented each other, I recommend Reliable to friends who are looking for remodeling and we will use them for our next project.

Had our kitchen remodeled in 2014 and we were very pleased when it was completed. It exceeded our expectations. This was actually our second project with Reliable. They finished our basement back in 1996, which also exceeded our expectations and has been lived in regularly. Anyways, recently noticed some spots on our Cherry wood cabinets (Kitchen) and we were unable to remove them. I contacted Beth from Reliable to find out the Cabinet maker, Beth volunteered to make all the arrangements for a Service call for our cabinets. Upon completion of the Service call, all the spots were fixed as well as a cabinet hinge that happened to break the day before the Service call. All was completed at no-charge to us. We have always been Very Pleased working with the staff from Reliable, starting from Tony all the way through his entire organization.

We worked with Reliable to have them do a major addition on our house. They worked with us to understand our needs and to come up with a plan that gave us everything we wanted at a price that was workable. During the initial work with us they had the most detailed plans vs other builders we talked to and were able to give us a comprehensive quote up front and our final cost was very close to this. During construction, Reliable did the best they could to minimize disruptions to our family (not always easy when half the house is being renovated). They communicated well throughout the whole project, letting us know when work would be done and what was going on. They stayed close to schedule even though much of the work was during the fall and winter when there were a number of days of bad weather. The quality of all work was very good - better than the original construction of the house. Afterwards, Reliable was responsive in getting minor issues taken care of.

I cannot say enough good things about reliable. Before during and after the work all superb. We got our master bath completely remodeled. Everyone at Reliable Home Improvement from the staff in the office to our superintendent Mike C Ducato to all the craftsman were all so professional. I am a very critical and picky person and when I say I am impressed, that’s huge. I don’t give that compliment to anybody. They are very organized and stuck to the schedule almost to the day! Before they start they give u a schedule detailing exactly who will be doing what and when. I loved that. Helped my family and I big time. And we got the work done during the Covid and they went above and beyond to take precautions and be safe. And usually these companies are known for being ridiculously late on finishing the job but reliable finished right on time. They have that family run business feel. So they have a lot of more flexibility. And they went above and beyond the scope of the job and fixed stuff for me thet was outside of the scope of the work. Their main priority was my family and my happiness and satisfaction. I couldn’t be more happy with them and would recommend them 100%.

We just completed our kitchen remodeling with Reliable Home Improvement in Naperville. It was a project we had been considering for years. After a recommendation from a neighbor, and visiting the showroom in Naperville, we met the staff, and felt confident with choosing Reliable for our kitchen remodel. After signing the contract, we scheduled a meeting with our designer, Sharon. She worked with us throughout the process of choosing cabinet style, whether we wanted painted or stained cabinets, what type of handles, interior of cabinets and what type of backsplash. We also chose hardwood flooring. Reliable handled all the scheduling of the remodel, from the architectural drawings and permits, to the contractors and all the inspections that would be required by the village. The office staff at Reliable always kept us updated on contractor schedules, and what was happening next. When the project began, Leo, our job site coordinator was onsite overseeing each contractor that did work. We had daily communications and a written log to document any questions or concerns we may have had during the process. Everyone who worked in our home was very courteous and professional. The workmanship was excellent. From the demo to the installation of the backsplash, the contractors worked hard and cleaned up prior to leaving for the day. The project included removing a wall and the soffits, moving plumbing and venting, replacing the ceiling, new cabinets and hardwood floors. Updates to the lighting in the new kitchen area were placed perfectly. All new items were on hand prior to the start of the project so that there would be no delays. Any changes we made as the project progressed were completed without any additional delays. The forty-day project was completed with only a small delay in the final stages due to the Covid 19 concerns. The project turned out even better than we imagined. Seeing our selections all come together in a finished project was very satisfying; we are extremely happy with the results.

We got a quote from Reliable for our master bath remodel. Dave was thorough with his quote, but wasted a few hours of our time walking us through the showroom before giving us a quote of $77,000. While our project did involve moving our closet wall back about 18 inches, it did not even include painting the walls. Our bathroom is not extremely large, nor did we request ultra luxurious fixtures, so this quote was ludicrous, in my opinion.

We really enjoyed how Anthony took our thoughts/ideas and combined it with his to create a design that really fit with the modern and contemporary feel of our home. After having lived in the house for 22 years we now feel like the main floor fits with the contemporary exterior and layout of the house. These concepts were translated nicely into an easy to follow conceptual plan and then eventually the detailed drawings. The Reliable Team was pleasant to work with every step of the way from start to finish. The Planning Department’s focus on detail was very thorough and communicated clearly. The schedule for the work was logically and clearly communicated. The site superintendent managed the tradesmen and job site very effectively. The workmanship was great across the entire project. We were very impressed with the skill of the drywallers. It’s very energizing and enjoyable to come home from work now to such a clean, open, and great looking home!

To us, the sign of a company that we want to do business with is their post-sales service. Reliable did a kitchen remodel 3 years ago and we recently needed to have some cabinet doors tightened / adjusted. Beth at Reliable immediately arranged for the cabinet company to come out and take care of us. It is this type of attention that keeps us coming back to Reliable.

Second time I used on a remodel job. Very professional; good upfront planning, good subcontractors. Took care making sure other areas of house protected. Very few problems and the ones that arose were addressed in a timely manner. The final product turned out very well. Not the least expense remodeler but you can have confidence the job will be done correctly and within the time frames agreed.

The project was a complete heartbreak.  Reliable's advertises

Reliable's promise of exceptional customer service, attention to every detail and quality craftsmanship was completely abscent from this job.
The subcontractors were nothing less than rude, unprofessioanal, unskilled, "hang and bang" types  . . .  with an obvious attitude of "just get it done".   Reliable promises daily supervisors who would check for quality and ensure that the job was completed correctly.  In our case the supervisor consistently missed major items.  For example, items that were clearly indicated on the blueprint, such as a wall install, plumbing loctions, can light locations, tile patterns, drywall repairs, and plumbing fixtures were completely missed by the supervisor.  It became immediately clear that it was homeowner who was responsible for finding the oversights.

The subcontractors were adhored.  There are numerous issues; here are only some of the major issues.  The plumber installed most everything improperly and completely wrong.  A few examples include;  the hand held shower in the master bath has never worked, the main shower temp is not adjustable and does not allow for cold water, and the bathtub was installed out of level.  The carpenter did not affix moldings, forgot modlings around the shower base, installed trim that was uneven and left major gaps on th inside and outside corners of trim, failed complete base trim installation in a closet.  The drywall installers failed to follow the ABC's of installation, and cut through the bedspread on the bed that they used as a workbench.    The same tilers permanently "trashed" the newly layed tile floor when they failed to protect it and tracked dirty expoxy grout on it.   The granite installers spilled sealer on our newly installed custom cabinet drawers causing a noticeable stain. And to top it all off, both the plumber and tilers choose to bypass an onsite dumpster and instead choose to dump their debris in our custom landscapping.
And it gets worse. The remodel project was to be completed in February of 2014.  As of June of 2015 the job, for which they have been paid all but $400.00  has not been completed.  They walked off the job in April of 2014 leaving our home a complete disaster.  Despite repeated notifications and requests to compete the project Reliable has has refused to complete it.  They have never installed the plumbing in the hallway bath leaving it completely unusable.  They never installed a large window which was part of the contract.  And they have never attempted to fix any of the other major issues cited in this review.
In the end, we paid top dollar to Reliable who advertises and promises service and quality.  Instead, we received below standard contractors  and service.  After paying 70K we are left with a major window that has never been istalled, one bathroom that is unusable and another that is seriously flawed.   They have not  made any attempts to fix other issues.
To make matters even more painful, we were left with no other option but to hire a lawyer and invest thousands of dollars to hire additional contractors to finish the job.

Once again, as we stated to you previously on several occasions, we would be happy to complete your project. The design stage was handled properly and professionally. The actual build and installation was a nightmare. The total job was scheduled for 3.5 months. As of month 8 it is still unfinished. The second bath is still unusable, Plumbing does not properly work, a window that was to be installed in month one has not been installed. Trim carpentry is still unfinished. Reliable promised professional trades and craftsman to complete the work in a professional, courteous and timely manner. We anticipated some setbacks and mistake, but nothing could have prepared us for the horror story that awaited. The workers that showed up were unskilled, unprofessional "hang and bang" types. Their attitudes and total lack of common courtesy to the homeowner was despicable. To begin with, sub contractors or supervisors routinely failed to refer to the blue prints. Framing, electrical, plumbing and tile errors and omissions where repeatedly made. Site supervisors never caught any of the mistakes. It was the homeowner who caught all the mistakes. The actual quality of work completed is unacceptable. The plumber repeatedly failed to follow blueprint specs. The toilet and tub were installed crooked and out of plumb. After eight months the shower diverter stills does not work, and the toilet does not flush properly. The tile installers failed to follow the ABCs of tile layout which led to noticeable errors and omissions. Their failure to protect the newly tiled floor led to unrepairable damage. Despite an available dumpster, the tilers disposed of all the liquid debris in our newly installed landscaping killing some plants. The trim carpentry quality is unacceptable, gapes, crooked and loose moldings are the standard. All the moldings had to be taken down and redone by the homeowner. When all these problems were brought up to Reliable's attention the response was always one of excuses and pushback on the homeowner. Bottom line, the company ignored valid complaints and regressed in service.

"Dear Mr [removed member name] I am sorry that you feel that we did not meet your expectations and going forward, perhaps we may find common ground to resolve any issues that you may have. We are currently under contract and as you know have attempted to conclude any and all punch list issues on your project . We have reached out to you on several occasions in effort to resolve any incomplete items and will be happy to do so once you agree to what is left to finish in writing on our standard punch list form (as our contract agreement states). As you know, I have personally been out to your home and met with you and viewed the work being done on phases one of the project. Once we completed phase one of the project and you were satisfied with the quality of the work that we performed, you authorized us to go forward with phase two. Also as you know, I have sent you out a filled out punch list form of what we feel remains to be done as per the terms of our contract. Our team here at Reliable are very anxious to complete the work as stated on the punch list I sent you but you refuse to sign our punch list. I can assure you again, as I have several times in the past, that we are very anxious to complete the work. All we ask is that you be fair with us and follow the terms of the contract agreement that we both signed. Also as you know, I have offered to refund the fair market value of the work that we feel we are responsible for to complete if you would prefer having someone else do it. Sincerely, Gilbert N. The name Reliable truly stands for RELIABLE! We had Reliable Home Improvement do three major projects for us over the last 9 years. The first project, a new front entry way along with new roof, and Pella windows throughout our house was so successful that when we needed to add a room addition (which included a basement extension). they were the first to be called. In addition, we had a major kitchen remodel done along w/a powder room and hardwood floors on the first level of our home. We  truly felt that Reliable knew our home along with our likes and dislikes that they would be the perfect choice. We felt so comfortable with each of the superintendents and the "trades" they brought in to do the work...they respected the fact that we had animals in our home and made sure that none escaped while doors were open.  They gave us a timeline of the work to be completed and each time they were within a day or two of completing a project. They were Reliable in every sense of the word and should another project come along, they would be first to be contacted.

Their designers were very easy to work with and understood any changes that needed to be made. Their showroom on Ferry Rd is like being in a candy store...but when our projects were done, we felt as if they could have been part of the showroom. They totally honor their warranties and are very quick to resolve even the tinniest of problems. Reliable Home Improvement would be an excellent choice for your next home project.

The reason why I wanted to post something now is because I just had a neighbor come out to me saying that they are going to use this company because the outside of our house looks nice but I fired them to do the outside of the house and I hired somebody else. I am concerned that a lot of my neighbors will think that, because they had a sign out in front of my house. I don’t want anyone else to go through this experience with them. The floors they installed were not level so they had to redo the floors. They were not going to do that so we had to fight with them on that. They installed 14 windows in my house and all 14 were installed incorrectly. The window company came out and said because they were installed the warranty was going on the windows and so we are stuck with these windows. I do have it in writing from the window company that the windows were installed incorrectly and the warranty is void because of them. They kind of tricked me the salesman contacted me and said if I agree for them to install the air conditioning and heating, I would save $2700 and I have that in writing. It ended costing me about $4000 more. They broke a bunch of stuff in my house too.
Response from RELIABLE HOME IMPROVEMENT & SUPPLY INC

"We here at Reliable are sorry you feel this way. To touch on the floor issued that you mentioned the real issue with the floor was due to an existing undersized header that was replaced via change order with the client. Once this was installed the issue was totally resolved. Now in regards to the windows, we had a service issue with them in which the Superintendent met with a Pella service rep and it was resolved. Reliable has been selling and installing Pella windows and doors for decades and have not had any major issues at all. Lastly, in regards to breaking things in your home, when doing a remodeling project there are chances of things getting broke. In your project we did have a little mishap with one of the drivers backing into a light pole and you the homeowner were reimbursed for all damages. I just want to take the time out to say since 1967 Reliable Home Improvement has had a solid reputation as a quality builder. We have had thousands of customers over the course of those years and have always treated them fairly and have fulfilled their contract. We take pride in going the extra mile for all of our homeowners. If you seem to still be having service issue feel free to call us up and we will not hesitate to send out a Superintendent to review those issues. Reliable Home Improvement"

Their company name is so clearly a misnomer. They hold themselves out as a design-build firm. But their proposed design was totally lame and unattractive. A relative of mine sketched out a far more pleasing design which the company implemented. In company's favor I will say their structural sub contractor(s) did an excellent job. But the finish work, which is in my face every day, was purely amateur and not even in accordance with the detailed plan which they went to great pains to have me approve pointing out that the plans would be "The Bible" for the job. Apparently they were The Bible" only if I wanted to make a change but not if the company didn't want to conform to the specifications. I did not go with the cheapest bid because I wanted quality workman-ship which I clearly did not receive. The company, while paying lip service to correcting their faulty work, never did so. I have had to remediate the most glaring faults mayself and learn to liive with those that are just annoying. If I had more space I would post my punch list, none of which the company took care of. Two often repeated comments by the PM during the process are illustrative: 1) "I pride myself on being able to bring a job in under budget." (not necessarily conducive to quality work); and 2) "A good painter can take care of that." (a safe comment since Reliable doesn't do painting.) Believe me, none of my issues with the work can be remediated by a good paint job. I wish I had known of Angie's List at the time I was looking to have this work done. I would have saved myself a lot of grief and maybe even some $$$.

"6/25/10 Toward the completion of this project on 12/14/01, our company had a meeting with this customer that resulted in a punch list of items that needed to be completed. This punch list was agreed upon by us and the customer. A course of action was also agreed upon at this meeting. On 12/17/01 a copy of the punch list was delivered to this customer describing the course of action as well as a required signature accepting the punch list and an agreement to pay the $3000.00 balance owed upon the satisfactory completion of the punch list items. Months went by with no response from this customer. On 3/7/02 we made yet another attempt to resolve this issue and mailed out another request to complete the punch list and then followed up with a phone call to the customer. we were told that she needed to consult with her attorney. More time passed with no response to our requests. On 7/10/02 we sent a letter to both the customer and her attorney asking for resolution to the issues and to complete the project. We also followed up with a phone call to the attorney asking for the same resolve. He assured us that we would be contacted once he looked into the issues. Again months went by with no response to our requests to finish our work and satisfy our customer. In April of 2003, we decided to close this file with unfortunately no opportunity to solve any outstanding issues. We would have been more than happy to complete whatever punch list items left outstanding nine years ago and would be just as happy to complete them today. Gil Ducato, President"

From the very beginning, it was so easy to work with Reliable. Their salesperson was extremely knowledgable and very helpful but never pushy. Before we went to contract, they created 3D renderings to help us envision the project. The staff architects were very thorough and innovative. The whole project was very organized. The construction was on budget and within 1 week of their stated completion despite sub-zero weather. The crews were extemely hard working, polite and neat. There were very few issues and even the most minor problems were addressed immediately. They even came out to the house almost 1 year later to help adjust a heating problem. The office staff was wonderful to work with and very patient during the selection process. I have happily referred them to friends.
