Stay away – shop elsewhere. We ordered flooring through the Costco program. Sales process with Matt was fine; he was responsive and we appreciated the selection available. Service and responsiveness after the order was installed was quite poor – very different from what you see during the sales and scheduling process. The installation experience was far below expectations. Installers arrived at 8am and left after 9pm – a 13+ hour day. Not surprisingly, quality at the end of a day that long was poor. An installer stepped in caulk and tracked it throughout the basement. Installers refused to install trim pieces that were discussed and ordered with Matt – only after arguing did they agree to install pieces that were already on site and included with the order. Two stair tread pieces were cut crooked, and it took months to get those replaced. When replacing the mis-cut stair pieces, installers left the walls scraped and damaged. Once everything was finished, I wrote to Lauren (President) to share the experience. What I received back suggested that their team had reasons for everything that went wrong, and that maybe our expectations were the issue. No acknowledgement that this experience differs from what Great Western aims to provide, so I take that to mean our project was an ok result by them. It’s certainly not an experience that I would want others to have. I have worked with many contractors through different projects, and Great Western stands out as a much poorer experience than normal for remodeling and home improvement work.

Never got past the proposal stage. Salesperson came over to give us a quote. Measured the property and the sat at our kitchen table to look at samples. He set his book of samples down on our wood table for us to review. When he lift his book, we noticed that it had scratched and gouged the entire table. His comment “Oh sorry”. Following the visit we contacted the company several times to discuss. No response. Finally, after the 5th attempt, we connected with the salesperson. He stated it was Company policy not to cover anything like that. It was an accident. No discussion, no attempt to resolve. Just NO! Very unprofessional and lack of customer importance. Caution when using this company!

The finished look is very good, BUT.... many aggravating things happening along the way. Not enough flooring was ordered, so project had to stop. Workers left a pile of wood and the box in the middle of my living room. I have cats - so they would have lots of fun climbing this pile and injuring their paws. I had to carry all extra pieces into my basement myself. The reason I could not ask them to do it, is because THEY DID NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. Was a real communication barrier and I found it completely frustrating. None of the guys ever even told me their names - the one "lead" worker was very nice but how can you discuss something when you don't speak Spanish and they don't speak English? They also made a gigantic mistake, by not realizing the height difference of my ceramic tile in the foyer - compared to where the wooden floor would be. The woman who came initially did not even ask me about that - the workers didn't seem to realize. I had to eventually get two wooden strips to join the rooms together - they look pretty bad and one of them is starting to come up at one end. I would NEVER USE THEM AGAIN because they just don't seem to give a care.

We chose another tile and had another installer come and the work was satisfactory. The work was done a number of years ago and managers and personnel may have changed by now.
Description of Work: backsplash tile work was done in the kitchen and the installer put it upside down. It took a while for the manager to see the work that was performed and then agreed it had to be replaced.

Worse experience ever. Job was to take 3 - 4 days but sales rep never ordered the flush mount vents till upwards to 3 weeks AFTER installation of flooring. Then tells us we can't do flush mount after the flooring was down. A manager stepped in and said it could be done but she would need to find the right person to install them as it was harder to do once the flooring was down. Once vents got ordered it took about 3 -4 weeks to get them in and then we are told they don't fit but we think it was a case of the guys sent didn't know HOW to install them. And they didn't match either. Took several more weeks before they got them fixed and installed. Installer was rude and scratched up freshly painted walls and they just shrugged off the complaint. Took upwards to 9 + weeks from start to finish - installation of flooring to installation of vents. Way too long to have our house turned upside down.

The sales staff were great to work with; however, the installation was the worst part of the entire kitchen remodel. We selected a special hand-glazed tile that was not uniform for each tile. The sales staff promised that the tile installer was an artisan and would layout the tile prior to install, to make sure there was a randomness to the finished backsplash. When the installer showed up, he mixed up the mortar and was planning on pulling tiles out of the box and installing without laying out the pattern first. Upon questioning, he told me that if I wanted that, I needed to lay out the tile myself. He packed up and left. Upon calling the store, they informed me that I had the best person on the job. No one came out to mediate the process or make sure the installer was performing as promised. I spent 4 hours unpacking tiles and laying them out. The next day, the same installer showed up and asked if I really wanted him to install the tiles as per my layout. It was an exasperating experience, to say the least.

Floor installation was not performed professionally. Glue came through seams in flooring. Thresholds have already come up and repaired , and then they came up again. The stipulations of the contract we signed was not followed by the company. Highly unresponsive to requests for assistance with these matters by the company reps. No follow up from sales reps to see how project went.

From the beginning of the job it did not go well. The flooring was very different than what I picked out. Far more knots and dark lines than the sample. And as it was installed I found a lot of dents that after complaining they attempted to pull up and replace. That only caused more damage. There were many many nail holes along the starting edge of each room that I had to request fillling and/or refilling because the color was either bad or non existent. I was never told that there would be nail holes. I expected a few but I have never seen a floor with so many. I had one installer that said that many holes was unnecessary. There was substantial damage to the base of my kitchen cabinets that was not repaired. I don't know if it could have been avoided or not but it is disappointing. The threshold pieces I needed for a step down in my sunroom did not even come close to matching and the installation was terrible. There was a seam in the middle that was completely uneven. When they returned to replace, the new pieces were installed much better but aren't even close in color match. I was told that is a problem when trim is not ordered with the original floor order and there is nothing that can be done. (My first batch of trim did not get ordered with the flooring-it was an oversight by the person that handled the order). And the final problem was the trim around my fireplace. I was not told that it would be a large piece of wood threshold that did not even match my floor-it looked like it was plastic. After several installers, and managers looked at it I did get them to replace with a far better inset trim. Unfortunately this job started in January and was not completed until September. I asked for a Mohawk representative to come and look at the floor but was told that they would not come out for the issues that I had reported-it would take more serious damage than I had. For anyone contemplating wood floors I would say I wish I would have gone with "finished in the home" floor. Then I could have more control over the color and quality process. I did not want to have to remove all my furniture and the prefinished allowed me to do half the house at a time and then shuffle the furniture to rooms that were done. My mistake. I now have floors that disappoint me greatly.
Description of Work: This was for Mohawk prefinished Parisian Acacia Barrel flooring for my entire first floor. They removed carpet, old wood floor and tile before installing the new floor.

I did not use them through Angie’s List. I spent over $3,500 on the job. The job was never done. When the guys came out with the product, it was the wrong product. The installers knew that it was the wrong product. So, they came out to my office and informed me about it. I still have no backsplash and no tiles. I would rate them very poorly. They had charged me and I had to file a dispute with the credit card company. The credit card company did take the charge off my credit card. My main complaint with them would be that the salesperson had minimal product knowledge. He did not inform the possibility that the tile could have variations. It ended up being a huge ordeal. My other concern is that they have multi-page contract; it is very lengthy. You are required to sign the contract before you place the order. I would caution anybody against signing it because they are protecting themselves; you are assuming that by the signing the contract, they will be providing you with the correct product. Later, even if they provide the wrong correct, they can come after you as you have already signed the contract. One of the clauses in the contract was “we are a non stocking dealer. So, all deposits are non-refundable.” The clause was fine by me but I assumed and wanted that they provide me with the correct product. They use the clause to get you to pay even though you do not get the correct product. I had received more than one bid. I had used them because the price was reasonable. Also, they were a local company; I normally try to do business with local companies. They were punctual until there was a problem. Apparently, another person I know had a problem with them and it took two years to resolve the problem. The owner was terrible. They were fine until the problem surfaced. I do not want anybody to even consider using them.

I chose GWF after getting estimates from about four different companies. I worked with Dana on the sales side. She was informative and very prompt. I was generally very happy with their service, quailty and price

We were very pleased overall, from dealing with the salesperson, Julie, to the installation contractor, Kuba. Julie was kowledgeable, helpful and interested in meeting our needs. She provided several samples for us to consider and several suggestions on installation. The lead installation contractor, Kuba, was extremely professional, courteous and neat. He and his team were punctual, and they met the schedule proposed. The quality of their work was outstanding. The overall price was quite competitive! We would definitely do business with Great Western Flooring again.
