Jason from Aqua Tech came out to fix the water supply line. He was very courteous and very professional. He explained what he was going to do and after he completed he showed me his work. He answered a bunch of questions I had. Very nice tech. This is a plumbing company I have no problems calling back.
Response from AquaTech Plumbing

"Hi! I want to thank you so much for your review. That is our mission is to have you call back. We want customers for life. We are very lucky to have Jason . . . AND TJ . . . AND Larry. They are all very knowledgeable, and that's wonderful but the thing I like most is that they really love people and what they do and that is sometimes difficult to find in service industries. Thank you so much for choosing us. We appreciate you. Andrea"

My toilet started leaking in an upstairs bathroom and the next day, there was a large stain on the ceiling in the room below.  I called AquaTech on Saturday morning around 8 am in a panic.  They said they could have someone at my house between 10-12, probably closer to 10.  I received a call at 10:15 letting me know that the appointment before mine was running late, and he would be slightly delayed.  Jason arrived around 11.  He quickly assessed the situation, and provided us with options.  We decided to replace the toilet.  Jason had one with him, removed the old, took it with him, and installed the new one.  Since all three toilets in the house were the same age and brand, we decided to go ahead and replace them all.  Jason helped us decide between round and elongated.  We have a small powder room and were concerned that the elongated wouldn't be comfortable, so Jason even went downstairs to sit on the existing toilet so we could assess the fit as Jason is about 6'2".  He even provided a recommendation for a company that could help with the water damage.  They didn't replace all 3 toilets yesterday, but we will be calling to schedule an appointment for the remaining two, and calling them if we ever need a plumber.  Jason was punctual, personable, helpful, and professional.  He cleaned up the area before he left - all in all, an excellent experience.

Called in the morning looking for best quotes.  Aquatech quoted the lowest with a quality 40 gal water heater.  They were not sure they could get out same day.  But, when I said that I had no hot water, said they would be there by 4:00 PM.  Got here about 3:00, took out the old water heater, installed the new one, cleaned up and was out of here by 4:00.  Great price, great service, happy customer.

Purchased on Thursday, March 20th.  They called me same day and set appointment for the very next day, Friday, March 21st, between 0800 -1000 and were here by 0900.  Evaluated the situation, gave me the price, I agreed and he started the work.  Finished within 1 hour and 15 minutes.  Cleaned up and showed me the new faucet.  Did an outstanding job!  Saved a chunk of siding so I could patch the old hole with it, purely for cosmetic purpose but very thoughtful.  Outstanding person, Jason!

I really wish I had used Angie's list and read all other reviews (Yelp, etc.) before calling them, that would have given me a much more informed picture. I recently used them to do repairs in my laundry room, and they wouldn't give me any idea of cost before coming out, but I went ahead anyway. On the plus side, their tech was prompt, friendly and did good work. However, #1, they charged nearly $700 for repairs that several others have since told me should have been $300-$400. #2, the work that they did do caused something else in the plumbing system to come loose, leading to banging pipes, which had never happened before they did this repair. It wasn't their fault, but since their repair triggered this issue, we asked them to come back out to look at this. Since they agreed that it was likely that their work triggered this problem, they agreed to waive the trip charge, which we really appreciated.  When we asked them to try to help us figure out what happened, they basically said that they did nothing wrong, that the banging pipes weren't their fault, and wouldn't even consider negotiating any kind of fair price to try to fix it. They told us our options were to either pay to fix it, or live with the noise. It just seemed like they had no interest in being involved with us as customers any further, they were more concerned in clearing their company of any blame.  I have NO complaints with their level of professionalism or the quality of their work, but in my opinion they are overpriced, and based on my own personal experience, I would not use them again. I recommend that consumers do not make your decision based only on what you find on the BBB website. I advise going with a company that gives free estimates, or at least get more than one estimate. Then you are a more informed consumer, and better able to make a good decision for your own personal situation.

Update 3-25-2014:

I appreciate Aqua Tech responding to my review, and I appreciate their offer to continue to work with us.  We never had an issue with Aquatech as a company, the tech did good work that night.  We did  not ask for any repairs to be done for free, however the tech did state during the follow up visit that he was not authorized to offer any discounts on further work. We just decided that given our experience with Aquatech as a whole, it was better to just part ways and move on.  We do NOT think Aquatech is a bad company, nor do we think that other consumers should not use them.  It just didn't work out for us.
Response from AquaTech Plumbing

"Of course we want you as customers! I’ll call you! We’d love to fix this for a greatly discounted & fair price! Forgive us if we sounded defensive - we were just trying to explain the circumstances. We are always fair and ask the same. You agreed this was no fault of ours and “Free” just wasn’t fair in this instance - to fix a pre-existing issue from your builder pre-dating work we did. Since we’d already waived your after-hours trip charge, and 2 plumbers agreed this problem was existing defective plumbing, a “free” fix just wasn’t an option at the time. . . especially for a guy out at night on overtime! But we DO try to help. That’s why we came out at night, waived your trip charge, and offered you such a discount to do the work. We were all surprised when you agreed it wasn’t our doing, but declined a fix. Sometimes it seems customers we try to help the most are the least satisfied and that is very confusing to us, but it happens. We would be thrilled to fix this for you. As I said, I’ll call you to see what we can work out. Also, please remember that anyone can tell you a price over the phone. Lots of companies do that and then jack the price up when they arrive. We always look at the situation first to avoid doing that to our customers."

Picked this company based on past ratings and looking to build a long term relationship for future services as opposed to just a 10% off coupon deal. Company motto was "better plumbing for a better pricing".   Better for who?
Office was responsive and friendly. Plumber showed on time.  He provided 2 disposal options and cost for the job which was significantly higher than expected but my spouse agreed to proceed because we had been without a usable kitchen sink for few days already and didn't want to turn the plumber away.  When asked for a break down of the cost into labor and parts, that information was not provided. The old disposal was removed and the Badger 5 installed easily and took a total of 45 minutes from arrival to departure.
Following the install my spouse reported to me the on the job and cost and basically I almost fell over on the following basis:  One, this is probably one of the easiest plumbing jobs to complete and two, the Badger is not a high-end unit and retails on the high end from the Big Box store for $100.  The entire job was discounted 10% on a certificate and still it came to well over $400, meaning the plumber was charging $300 an hour for his time for this simple job and was dispatched out of St. Charles for a job in Elgin (nearby).
I called the office the same day to express my concern over the price for this job and was told they charge comparable rates to others in the area but a supervisor would call back. To be fair, the supervisor and I did not connect on the following day to discuss the matter, but she did leave a msg for me to call back after the weekend, so maybe this will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction in the end.
Be careful of what you see reported on Angies list and do your due diligence before booking any contractor.
-- Update - AquaTech did refund us back $75 o the job and that refund was issued quickly as well, so I updated their prcing grade to a B.

More expensive than planned, $300.00 for 45min of cleaning out drains.
But didn't charge for looking at drain pipe and finding crack (luckily above
drain so was only problem when tub was backing up) and putting some sealant on
it.  Only problem really, was that I didn't get the $40.00 Angie List discount as promised,
and I forgot to ask for it.  Oh well maybe next time.

We had a slow leak from a soil pipe on the second floor into the crawl space. The plumber was able to trace it to a screw from a register in the kitchen wall that had pierced it years ago and had finally rusted and fallen out. He cut a hole in the wall, put a sleeve over the pipe and thus fixed the leak. Nice work tracing the leak without tearing up the entire wall.

Larry was right on time. He took the time to examine the plumbing pipes in the whole house, in order to determine the scope of the project. He explained the situation to me in very clear and simple terms. As it turned out, the plumbing rework was more extensive than I had thought. I decided not to pursue the project. However, I would definitely use Aqua Tech in the future based on this experience,

Nice person on the phone, I had asked some questions on a backwater check valve and the phone rep sent me an email with the products explanation. I called for a followup question and she said she would have someone call me. No call ever came.
I emailed to ask for a followup call and no call ever came.
I called again the main number, told them that there price was the best, that no one ever calls me back, and that I want to use them, but have further questions. I finally get a call back the next day.
The installer answers my initial question but says that the City of Naperville might have a certain product that they need to use for my solution, he said he would call the city to find out and get back to me.
Three weeks later, no call.
Im done trying to work with them. Politeness only works so far, return your phone calls please!
Response from AquaTech Plumbing

"I’m glad our price was the best, but couldn’t stomach why no one would call you back so I investigated. What I found is that after Kathy e-mailed information on the check valve, Larry (in a phone conversation both he and Kathy recall) told you he thought better of using this approach, because these valves don’t work properly – solids get caught in them and people experiencing flooding anyway. He recommended an overhead sewer. The check valve would be a waste of your money, he would be unable to warranty it because he did not believe it would work properly to solve your problem, and he would rather not do it. If you e-mailed and called after that I have to apologize. After your Angie’s List review, we looked for an e-mail from you requesting follow-up and couldn’t find one. Kathy remembered you calling again, but didn’t know the outcome. When I discussed this with Larry, he said he had left the decision up to you. He had made a business decision that he would not do the check valve, but he would do an overhead sewer. That is when I e-mailed you and left a message regarding this situation. I honestly don’t know what happened, and I would like to apologize again and discuss it with you when you have time. Call me at 630-416-3555. Andrea"

Everyone we communicated with at Aquatech was very polite and they were able to get a technician out quickly to look at a water heater that was not working.
The technician came to the house and informed us that Aquatech does not service Whirlpool water heaters. He was at the house for about 30 seconds. Had I been informed by Aquatech while setting up the appointment that they don't service this brand, he could have saved a trip and I could have saved $38.00. Unfortunately, management was not willing to issue a credit for the trip charge stating it is "company policy" and that I was informed of the trip charge in advance. While this is true I wish I had also been informed about the brands that Aquatech does NOT serve at the same time (i.e. BEFORE setting up an appointment).
Found a different company to solve this and any future plumbing issues.

Response from AquaTech Plumbing

"Hi [member name removed]! I authorized that refund myself yesterday! Because we were in error! We should have clarified the type of heater on your initial call. Kathy asked me to refund after talking to you, (she is fairly new) because you were distressed, but it was late in the day. I’ll check right now to make sure it was processed. I am so sorry for any confusion. We try really hard to be great! And I don't like hearing things like this. I will make sure all is well. Andrea"

The plumber came a bit earlier than the time promised; the dispatcher called first to let us know.  He gave us the cost of the work to be done before he started so that we could give our approval.  The price of the service call was $68, of which $30 was applied to the cost of the plumbing service.  We were advised this would be the case by the dispatcher.  We also were given a couple of discounts because we are members of Angie's List.  The plumber answered every question we had, checked his work when it was complete, and cleaned up after himself.  All in all we were very pleased with Aqua Tech's service.

We set an appointment and T.J. came out to take a look at what we needed done. AquaTech charges by the job rather than by the hour so we got an estimate for all the work we wanted done which included parts and labor. T.J. was very professional in explaining the scope of the work to be done and worked quickly once we agreed to the estimate. He was able to get the faucet working even though it needed replacement parts. He measured for the pit cover replacement and  told us their office would let us know when the parts arrived.
The day he returned to replace the pit cover we discovered the leak from the pipe beneath the kitchen. It had been going for some time and had created a real mess. While I set about cleaning up the water with the wet-vac T.J. measured for replacing the broken pipe. He pointed out another area that would likely fail as well and discovered two lead pipe connections to from the kitchen to the sewer pipe that, by code, had to be replaced. We decided to just have him come back to repair the sewer connection, do the sump cover installation which required re-fabricating some connections to fit the holes in the new cover and replace a second sump pump that had failed. He rigged a funnel for the leak until he could come back to do the repair.
The final repairs to the pipes and installation of the sump cover took the entire day. The company owner Larry stopped by to take a look at the job and introduce himself as well. Since the lead pipes from the kitchen had to be replaced T.J. had to fabricate new connections beneath the sink down to the basement. By the end of the day all the pipes were repaired/replaced and the job site left neat and clean. A very professional job.
That evening we found that the stream from the kitchen faucet was weak. It was close to closing time but the receptionist promised that someone would call back that evening. T.J. called and told us he'd come by the next morning. He checked the supply lines to the faucet and found a good amount of sediment. He cleared it and was on his way in about 20 minutes.

Contacted them early in the morning since we had no hot water, the dispatcher said someone would be out between 12 and 2, technician showed up a bit after 11, which was fine and nice.  Only took a few minutes to make the repair, but he wore booties to get through our house and cleaned up the floor around where he worked on the water heater.  The cost was more than I expected, given the cost of the replacement part and the time spent, but it was done very quick given that we had not hot water.  I suspect all the services would have charged nearly the same, but I had no time to shop around.
Response from AquaTech Plumbing

Mr. Moore of AquaTech sold us on the Eternal Tankless System and top of the line, the best system on the market. Installation was much more than I initially said I wanted to spend, so he definitely up sold the project. Installation was quick and professional with good cleanup. All was well until the Hot water heater began to fail. AquaTech came back one time, called manufacturer and got it working again. Within 2 weeks it failed again. I called AquaTech and they totally abandoned us, telling us we needed to work through the manufacturer. I explained that I thought that this was their job and they said no, there was nothing they could do. This started a year of total disaster struggling with the manufacturer over a defective heater. One would expect that a professional plumbing company would stand by their customer until the manufacturer fixed or replaced the unit. Not AquaTech, they abandoned us and ran for the hills. Extremely unprofessional company causing us to take cold showers for many months. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
Response from AquaTech Plumbing

"You paint a bleak picture and you didn’t remember or mention things like, Lemont was not in our service area anymore at the time, but we came to help you because we installed the unit. Or that we advised putting a water softener/filtration system in before the tankless was installed -- and then the flow valve failed 5 months later because of poor water quality, yet we did the work at no charge. (Remember our one year warranty is for INSTALLATION issues.) Or when you wanted to buy the part from us in case it happened again, we gave it to you free of charge instead. Or that Larry stepped in to intercede for you with the Eternal manufacturer - - even though there were gray areas as to why there were issues. I am truly sorry you had this unfortunate experience – it stinks to be honest - but at some point you have to deal with the manufacturer and make arrangements or replace a unit. AquaTech is not the manufacturer, so this is unfair to us, a company that went above and beyond to help you as we do ALL our customers, but whose hands were tied. When buying a car from a salesman at a car dealership, customers usually don’t hold the salesman accountable for every problem for the lifetime of the car. You deal with the dealership – or if you have a lemon, you deal with the auto manufacturer directly. I would be happy to extend free service to you on other issues because I regret that this happened to you, but the statement that we abandoned you is simply not accurate and I didn’t want this to give a wrong impression to Angie’s List members. I'm so sorry Jim. Call me directly. Andrea Moore"

After smelling gas in our basement on a Saturday afternoon we called the gas company who identified several leaks in the gas pipes and told us they needed to shut off our gas.  Since the plumber that we had used for other work in our house does not work on weekends, we searched for a plumber with weekend hours on Angies list.  We called AquaTech on Sunday morning and Bruce the plumber arrived by 9:30 AM.  He was very professional and we will definitely use AquaTech again.

Wanted a quote for a gas line to be installed in my basement to feed our
new kitchen cooktop.  Aquatech scheduled an appt for Monday to come out
between 12-2pm and give the estimate.  I took the day off to accomodate
other workers I had at the house.  Aquatech called at 1:44pm cancelling
my appt saying they had an emergency and needed all plumbers to come
and do the work.  I get it...but you call me 16 minutes before the end
of my windows sounds a little peculiar.....Would NOT recommend them at
all.  I called Precision plumbing and they are on the way to do the work
today!!!!!  Yeah!!!

We should have called you earlier, but his other call was 15 minutes from you and we thought he’d finish in time to make it. We waited until the last minute which was bad judgment on our part, and I apologize. I hope you give us another chance to earn your business. I know you’d have paid less than you did with Precision. Their prices are double to triple ours, depending on the service performed. I found this company on angie's list, looked at their website, then emailed them a few times with some questions.  Julie responded in a prompt manner and answered all of my questions.  I already knew that I needed a new hot water heater but asked if someone should still come out first to make sure that it will fit but they said it's not necessary.  I originally requested the Bradford White energy star model but when the technician (Jason) arrived he said that it would not fit unless we modified all the venting which I did not want to do.  He then offered some other options (models) for venting directly out of the base of the house but they were out of my price range.   So I went with the most basic model for $898 installed.  They only use top of the line hot water heaters (AO Smith & Bradford White).  I went with the AO Smith which is highly recommended by many plumbers and it's Made in America.  Mine is working fine and it's nice to know that we can now take 3 showers in a row with all of us having ample hot water.
I also had them remove an old water softener that was no longer in use but water was still running through the water pipe that was connected to it.  They could not give me an estimate for this over the phone because the technician had to see it first to see what needed to be done, which makes sense.  Jason quoted me $323 for removing the system after he installed the hot water heater.  I had him remove it since he was already here and I felt like he would do it correctly.  I'm kind of hung up a little bit on the price for this because it took less than 25 minutes to do the work and I just bought a hot water heater from them.  I completly understand that he did the work and removed the tank and water storage container and it was my decision to go with it, but I just feel like $323 is a bit much, just my opinion.  The "A" that I gave them for price is for the hot water heater.
Overall I feel that Aqua Tech is a good company and they get the job done.  Jason was very courteous, professional and patient with answering all of my questions, some of them more than once.  I would recommend this company.
