I was impressed by Peterson. They communicated, showed up when they said they would, cleaned up after themselves, and even gave me the Angie's list discount after I had already signed the contract I hope I never have to replace another roof, but I will work with Peterson if I have any other needs in the future.

My wife and I moved into our first ever home a couple of months ago in Arlington Heights. We were surprised to see that the home did not have any soffit vents installed for ventilation, and had little to no insulation. After talking and getting quotes from a couple of reputed ventilation and insulation providers we decided to go with Peterson Roofing. We were first visited by Joe (Giuseppe) who inspected the ventilation and insulation needs of the house. What I liked most about Joe was that he wasn't trying to push more and more business onto me, but instead, he was trying to guide me wherever I could save money by doing a few things on my own, instead through them. It took Joe a couple of days to send me the official quote, which I promptly accepted (it was a few hundred dollars lower than the closest high-quality competitor) Joe's team of two guys, (sorry, I can't recollect the names) came over on the pre-decided day, and started working at 8am, and continued working till 8pm! This was inspite of occasional rainfall here and there during the day (they continued working through the rain!). They were very professional - not only did they do an excellent job, but they also made sure they did not leave a trace of the dust and debris behind. Furthermore, at the end when I handed them an envelope with a tip just as my gratitude for a hard work well done, they politely refused without even knowing how much gratuity was in there. This speaks a lot about the professional culture that Peterson Roofing strives for, I think. Finally, Karen at the office is always quick to respond to questions and concerns. I hope I don't need any roof repairs anytime soon :) , but if I do, Peterson Roofing has my business already! - Natasha & Sumeet.

A++ experience... last year our family hired Peterson to install sofits and fascia on my father house, and we were amazed by the service, and workmanship this company offered. This time we hired them to re-roof our daughters roof. Pricing was very fair and estimate was provided as scheduled. Everything was explained in the scope of work. When the crew started work they entirely covered all surrounding landscaping and windows to perform the tear off. We love the appearance of the new roof and couldn't be happier we contracted with Peterson Roofing... On both projects the crews were very professional, and very courteous. A++

Within the first few days after received my signed contract from their quote, they preepaired the application for a building permit, working with me via email, I was able to provide my signature for the application. It was approximately 5 weeks later, Perterson contacted me to let me know they had an opening in the schedule to do my roof, we discussed the job, any questions and they verified my color choice for the roofing selection. The crew of 6 arrived at 7:30am. The team lead handed me the building permit, asking that I post it in the front window immediately. The team placed large tarps over the drivway, before backing the dump truck in, also placing tarps around the perimeter of the house to protect lanscaping, bushes and flower beds. A couple Tulips were in bloom, and instead of covering these and ruining the flower, the even cut the tarp to allow these through and not damage them. Thoughtful touch! The team also covered lower windows and doors with plywood pannels leaning over them, preventing damage from falling debrie. The crew proceeded to remove the old roof, while some were removing old shingles, others were placing the scrap in the dump truck. By approx. 9am. the new roofing materials were delivered, these materials were brought up directly to the roof with a crane, and the team unloaded the pallets stacking the material in several cleared areas of roofing. The team worked consisteantly all day, only breaking for lunch, about a half hour. By 6:00pm, the new roof was installed. The team completely removed all the debrie around the house, the tarps and using a large magnet, collected any loose nails. Once done, there was little evidence that they had been there. The new roof, GAF Timberline HD looks fantastic, the installation with the Ice and Water Shield 6 feet up the eves is assurance that I will not see probelems in winter. The lines are perfect, the installation quality top notch.

The Peterson crew arrived and got right to work (on a vey windy day!!) They replaced a section of rotted fascia, removed damaged gutter, and installed new soffit/gutter. The crew even noticed another section of gutter that was detaching from the corner of the house and repaired without hesitation (or additional charge). The house looks great and would highly recommend Peterson Roofing!! High character, high quality, and fair pricing!

When we noticed water dripping onto our countertop after a substantial rain, we knew we had trouble. We have used Peterson before, so I did not hesitate to call them. I called after hours and left a message, explaining we had water pouring through our cabinets in the kitchen. The next morning Peterson called and they said they could come out the day before Thanksgiving, which was only a day away, for an estimate. Right on schedule, Peterson showed up, and when the company representative saw the water on the counter, he headed outside to see what was going on. Unfortunately, it had snowed, so he couldn't crawl around on the roof, but after he put his ladder up, it became apparent that a large swath of roof shinges were missing. He guessed that was the problem, and understanding how serious of a problem we had, he said he would come out as soon as possible the following week. By the following Tuesday, they arrived and fixed the roof. When the rains came, no water came into our kitchen. You'd never know they had been here since everything was cleaned up beautifully. Only the lack of a leak proved they were here. We will continue to use Peterson as our roofing company.

Perfect from the time we got the estimate to getting the work done!! Paul came out and gave us a estimate and it was much less than Early Times Home Solutions Co. Cathy in the office was a dream to work with, since the weather became a issue and my work schedule changed also. The Gutter installers were very good at what they did also. (Sorry I forgot their names now). Paul also came out and installed the attic fan and did the Vent Stacks. Peterson Roofing was great and I will use them in the future and highly recommend them to anyone.

I understand everyone was trying to get repairs and roofing done before winter started, but we had no choice in this matter, since we had just purchased this property and moved in September 1st. It's not like we knew about the problem before and had time to schedule a new roof before then. I called Peterson because our handyman said they were real good and were local, and we were scheduled to get an estimate on 10/12 at 130PM. No one showed up so I called the office, and Cathy explained that Paul had been in our backyard earlier, around 1250PM and checked the roof and just left an estimate stuck in our front door. He told her that no one seemed to be home when he rang the doorbell and knocked, but there were 3 of us at home, our 2 cars in the driveway, and we have a dog, too. We never heard Paul, including the dog, who barks at everyone. He apologized for not calling and saying he would arrive earlier than scheduled. I explained we wanted to talk to him when he was here, and show him the inside of the shed to discuss some problems. Cathy put him on the phone and he sounded as though he was half asleep, could barely talk about the project. I just hung up, getting nowhere. Then Cathy called again 10/16 to follow up on what we wanted to do. I explained our frustration and she got real defensive and said the estimators are not salesmen, that is how they do their jobs, and I said we have had several repairs being done and every one talked to us first. She tried to blame us for the problem, saying we didn't inform her we needed to talk to the estimator, that we could always call in with our questions, or that we didn't mention there may be other problems. I said that's why we wanted to discuss the project with him, to see what they could do, or even if they were able to do the job. My handyman was here and my husband came home for lunch, both wanted to discuss the job with their rep. I said I could not give a good recommendation on Angie's List from this experience, and would have to look for other companies, then she changed her aggressive demeanor and said she would have another estimator come to see us on 10/20. So John came out then, and our handyman was able to discuss everything with him, about the soffit/facia, that he was going to add corral ties to the rafters before the roofing, etc. John said he would redo the estimate then, but didn't get back to us with that for a long time, and we had 2 other quotes come in, and went with A&D Exteriors, excellent customer service, very prompt and absolutely no problems with them, although a bit more expensive.
Description of Work: We wanted to get an estimate to replace the roof on our shed, before winter, because it had several leaking spots. We also had questions about the rafters and soffit and facia.

I think I will end up going with them. I think they are out of Mt. Prospect. It took a lot to get the quote, I want to say it took a month to get the quote. They followed up with me, like, a week later to see if I had any questions or was interested. They were very friendly and professional. One of my friends had heard good things about Peterson and they were able to fix their roof after three other companies were not. Their response was a little bit slow on the quote, but I think it is their busy time. I was not in a rush.

Excellent. They were not the lowest price but their price was competitive and they had an established reputation as a quality roofer. It is a family business and Jim Peterson Sr. gave us great personal service and accessibility and Jim Jr. patiently went over all the details in the proposal we received. Their project coordinator Bob was also polite and respectful, as well as Office Manager Nancy, who patiently provided our follow-up paperwork. The roof looks beautiful and was obviously installed with great skill and craftsmanship. We are very pleased and wholeheartedly recommend them.

I called several local roofing companies and all were very busy with major roof repairs from previous storms. Peterson was the only company to return my call and schedule a time for the estimate and then for the actual repair. The ladies who answer the phone and then the one who schedules the repair are very courteous and pleasant to talk to. They are very helpful answering all my questions. Tear off went very well, very little mess on the ground afterwards. 90% of that was picked up at the end of the day. New roofing went on very quickly with a bit more mess on the ground, but again 90% was picked up at the end of the job. 6 man team worked well together and made the install go very smoothly. They stayed late to finish the main roofs before nightfall. only the chimney flashing was left for the next day and final cleanup before moving on. The end product is a great looking roof.

They were extremely professional. A team came out and stayed from 7:30am to 4:30pm. They even cleaned the entire property of any waste or materials they pulled from the roof. I am very impressed. The next day the owner of the company came out to inspect the roof and showed me pictures of what it looked like now. The entire process was smooth from getting the bid to finishing the work. They are great to work with and explain in detail everything they did and why.

Response from Peterson Roofing Inc
The estimate for the suggested repairs was mailed to the member yesterday 7/15/2015. We apologize for the delay, but with all the recent rain, we have been very busy. Also, the inspection revealed issues in which required involving our roofing, aluminum and gutter technicians. This made the process a bit longer than normal. That being said, the detailed estimate itemizing the suggested repairs has been finished and is on its way to the customer. Again, we apologize for any delays.

Peterson Roofing did a great job from start to finish. They communicated what was going to happen when, and then kept us informed of changes due to weather. The guys were here early, worked a very long day, and did a great job cleaning up after themselves - so the yard did not even look like they had been there. The roof looks great, and thus far no issues. I did a lot of research through Angie's List before selecting Peterson Roofing. I was very pleased with the process, as well as with the new roof. They were a great vendor to work with, and I would use them again.

Our experience was really a mixed bag. I contacted them to have someone come out to see if the 30+ year old roof of our 2-story Colonial needed to be replaced (which we suspected it did). Plus, we knew the gutters and downspouts also needed replacing. Finally, the attic is very hot in the summer, so we wanted to know if more insulation would help with that. Paul came out to see all this. He felt that the roof was in poor shape. He also found (during the attic inspection) that the roof boards were moldy in some areas. So he explained his recommendation. He said that the roof indeed needed replacing, but that adding more vents and a stronger fan should help with the heat problem He said we could do more insulation, but we decided to try his first option and see what those results were. We had a second firm give us an estimate, but since they don?t do insulation they didn?t even go into the attic. Because of that, and also that Peterson not only allows you to pay via charge card, but does not ask for 1 penny in payment until the job is totally complete, we decided to go with Peterson. On Paul?s return visit (to finalize and sign the contract), he brought shingle samples and color chips for the gutters and fascia/soffits. He suggested a combination that we hadn?t considered, but that would work really well with the siding and other trim already on the house. This was a great idea. So we finalized the deal. He made a point to tell us that, while they do the roofing, they contract out with another firm (unnamed) to do the gutters, etc. This was in late March, so between the weather and the time to order and receive the materials, they did not call back to schedule the job until several weeks later. When they called to say the crew would be coming on Thursday, 4/23, I asked Bob (the scheduler) how long the job would take. He said probably 2 days and that they would work on Saturday to get it done if necessary. Thursday, 4/23: A full crew showed up early, and actually stripped and redid the entire roof that day. They also did a thorough job of cleaning up all debris and nails. Wow! Next up: gutters, etc. Friday, 4/24: It?s 9:30 am and no one is here to do the gutters, etc. I called Bob and he said ?Oh?they work on a different schedule. I don?t know when they are coming.? Huh??? You told me the whole project would be done by Saturday! OK...you subcontract them, but it is your project. You don?t know when they are coming? So he promised to call on Monday and let me know when to expect them. Monday, 4/27: No workers, no call from Bob. My patience is being tested. Tuesday, 4/28: No workers, no call. At 10 am I called and asked to speak to Jim Peterson (the owner). I explained the situation and he seemed genuinely concerned. He said he would speak to Bob, find out what was going on, and have him call me the next day. At the same time, I told him how happy we were with the job on the roof, and asked how his crew confirmed that the new roof fan was working (since they did not go in the attic). He pointed out that the contract specifically states ?electrical work for roof fans is the responsibility of the homeowner?). OK?I was embarrassed that I had not noticed that and told him I would get someone to do it. At that point, he said that because of the scheduling issue, he would have his electrician do it for free! This was above and beyond any expectation (it was my responsibility after all). Very generous on his part. Wednesday, 4/29: Bob called about 9:30. He was apologetic and said he had completely forgotten his promise to call me (!!!!). He said the gutter crew would be there the next day. Thursday, 4/30: One worker shows up (in an unmarked van) and begins doing the trim work. A little later another worker appears and is there for a few hours. Apparently, though, enough time to poke holes in 2 window screens and the patio door screen! I point this out and they say they will take care of it. The electrician also comes to hook up the attic fan; no charge. Friday, 5/1 and Saturday 5/2: Same guy shows up and works alone both days. He takes the torn screens with him. Monday, 5/4: It?s 9:30 and no one is here. So I called Peterson; ?They are on their way.?. At 10:00, the same guy arrives. At 10:30 several more workers show up in a Peterson truck! Wait: I thought this work was sub-contracted out! Anyway, they?ve now been working on the gutters, etc. for 4 days! Tuesday, 5/5: The same guy comes and installs the repaired screens (!!), cleans up his tools and leaves. Odd, since there is still a 10 foot section of roof edge that needs to be done. Wednesday, 5/6: Nothing. No worker, no call. Thursday, 5/7: At 9:30 I called and asked to speak to Jim Peterson. He was out, so Bob took the call. Once again he was clueless as to what was happening (or rather not happening). He said he would find out and call back. He did so about 10 minutes later. Once again, ?They?re on their way.?!! A different worker arrived at 10:30 and finally finished the job. Bottom line: The workmanship was excellent, but the customer service and responsiveness were really sub-par. I appreciated that he covered the fan hook-up, and that the screens were repaired quickly, but was very disappointed that neither Bob nor Jim Peterson ever called back to apologize for the scheduling screw-ups or to see if I was satisfied with the work and how everything looked. In the end, it is really about how well the work was done and how long the roof lasts.

I could not be happier with my decision to get a new roof from Peterson. I got quotes from 5 different companies. Turns out they were all trying to sell me on a ridge vent that I did not need! Peterson was the only company that didn't recommend it and the only company I felt safe with. The office staff is amazing. Cathy answered all of my questions promptly and in detail. I also feel that I got a good price. I am happy with how it turned out and the crew did a good job of cleaning up. If you want a roof from a company you can trust, go with Peterson! I'm happy I have such a great company in my town. I've already contacted them to do another project for me.

The service went very well. It took them a day-and-a-half. I picked them actually from Angie’s List, based on the referrals, and from the people in the neighborhood too. Their website provided a list of referrals as well and I used that as a basis. I would absolutely recommend them to a friend. The work they did was very good and professional.
Description of Work: I have used Peterson Roofing. They tore off the old roof and replaced it with a new roof.
